can 10 year old pay kids menu prices?

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I need to rearrange my dining plans to table service. My daughter has a connective tissue problem called Marfan which makes her extremely tall (5'4" at 10 years old) and thin so she looks much older than her age so I am pretty sure they will assume she is much older. My son (12years old and 5'7") had the same problem and we were questioned about his age alot when he was younger.
Again, thanks for your input.

I CAN'T WAIT TILL APRIL!!:rotfl:  :yay:
I guess I'm confused now...if your dd is 10 1/2, she's the age to pay adult prices....no matter what her size/height. If she were 7, but with a condition that made her look older, then I could see making changes to my dining plans.
It doesn't matter.....your dd is 10 and over, she is subject to the adult pricing. But, if you're thinking that if you go to table service so you can pay less because you can get childrens meals, that's fine....but maybe I'm misunderstanding.
My dd was really tall for her age also...she was your dd's height at that same age, so I can sympathize.

I'm a little confused now too. :confused3

Why get the DDP at all if all of the 10 y.o.'s credits will not be used and they will be paying oop for her meals. She said only chix stix and mac and cheese -- I don't remember seeing that for adult prices anywhere at a CS, so that would mean that all of the kid's CS AND TS credits would not be used. Unless they're a really big family people, it probably doesn't make sense financially.

Could somebody please enlighten me?

BTW, a friend of mine has 2 sons with Marfan's Syndrome. Good luck with that. :flower3:

Actually, no one pays adult prices. Guests 3-9 pays the price for Guests 3-9. Guests aged 10 or older pay the price for Guests 10+. They just use 10 as the age to change prices for tickets and dining.

buffets can be tricky. we always check out the menus online before making ADRs. hubby is kinda picky. he likes meat and potatos, not many veggies or "weird" stuff. we have eaten at Beirgarten, Cape may., and Bomas. he is 100% German, yet dislikes sauerkrat, cabbage, etc. neither of us care for mussels or clams, and bomas? NEBO: "potatos Affritude? I don't need my potatos having any attitude!" :rotfl:
we try the buffets just to try something new. and he always finds something he can eat, as he puts it. even if it's just mac salad, tons of zebra domes, green salad (well, he picks through to find the "iceberg" lettuce, not the green stuff)
that's the beauty of buffets. dif. stuff for the adventerous, same ol' same ol' for the others. if it doesn't work for the majority of your family, don't do the buffets. (I've been dying to do the Luau at the Poly for years, but it's family style with a limited menu, and not much he would like, so not worth 2 DDP credits for us.)
there will always be people at buffets who fill up on mac and cheese and nuggets, pizza., for the benefit of the others in the party .disney can't watch every patron, what they put on their plate. and there has to be an age limit. (whre I worked some "children"... half price... ate twice as much as some adults). buffets don't work for my DIL.. she eats like a bird.... but my son, (her hubby) eats like 2!!! my other son will go to any buffet and just eat a small piece of meat and a PILE of mashed potatoes!!! and then ice cream. so he spends the same amount as us, even though he is only eating potatoes and ice cream.
should the restaurant (disney or not) keep track or who chooses which food and charge accordingly? should they charge less for the person who only eats one small plateful.. .and double for the person who goes up to the buffet 5 times? or 6?
this is the nature of a buffet. there are numerous offerings and you can eat as much of ANY of the offerings you like. if you don't think there is enough offerred to your liking, you shouldn't eat there.
As always, Disney is VERY accomadating to any dietary restrictions. If there are health issues, I would call ahead of time and see if arrangements could be made. generally, even at their buffets, they have plenty of sugar free or other such choices. (I know disney is accomadating towards Gluten free diets, also). but I don't think the person with limited tastes or restrictions would get their "money's worth" at a buffet. it is just a choice whether to have the "dining experience" (say, the characters, or viewing the savannah before dinner at Animal kingdom Lodge at Boma,or the show at Biergarten, or the show at the Luau) for the price, and still have enough to fill your belly.
we checked out the Princess buffet at Akershus (in Norway). there is NOT much there Nebo and I would like, we're not fish eaters. herring? cold salads? give us BEEF! NOT for us! but when our granddaughter is old enough, I'm sure we'll pay the price and eat there. :scared1: .. (and since they did away with the appetizers on the DDP, at least at the buffets you get the appetizers! that's a plus!) and the DESSERTS gotta be good!!! I'm at Disney! I'll just eat desserts for dinner!

You must have married a brother of my hubby.:lmao:

I'm always send ahead to look at the buffet and see what's on the plates so I can report back to him.
When we dine a la carte he always mumbles to my :" do I like that?" :rotfl2:

But still I married the most wonderful guy in the world. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to intrude, but I have to ask... why can she only eat junk food (pizza, mac and cheese and chicken nuggets)? From the little I know about Marfan they recommend a balanced healthy diet, rich in vitamins and minerals, which encourages the production of connective tissue. None of those words describe the foods you say she is limited to. I'm not trying to slam you -- just trying to understand.

But, as others have said, no you can't pay the 3-9 yr old price for someone 10 and over. Although, IF it is a TRUE MEDICAL REASON (and not just a 10 yr old being picky) that she can't eat much, then take a note from the doctor to show the CM at each and every meal. I know they will usually allow adults who have had gastric bypass surgery pay the lower price with proof. (but even that is not guaranteed)

Now that our DD is over 10 years old, we're not doing many buffets at all. We're also not on the DDP, so she can order whatever she likes when we eat out, including kids meals, sharing an entree with me, etc.

You may want to change your ADRs to give you more flexibility, and also rethink the DDP.

Lots of us out here have small "adults" for kids, ones that dont eat too much. Mine doesn't go for the pricey things at the buffet -- mostly fruit & yogurt and a little pasta -- and I'm not planning on paying $30-$40 for that!

Unfortunately, she is also Bi-polar and she has control issues with food. Since she was a little girl, she would only eat a few things, nothing with wierd textures. Getting her to eat a well balance diet is very difficult. We feed her 3 boost/pediasure every day to keep up her weight and give her vitamins. As she is getting older, she is slowly trying new things. The doctor are worried about an eating disorder and don't want us to battle with food. Its a difficult balance

I agree with you but unfortunately it depends on the restaurant. The buffets will still charge adult prices though

Our daughter (who just turned 23 yesterday) has Hurler's syndrome, weighs 47 lbs., and is about 3-1/2 feet tall. She is about the size of a typical 6 year old and just doesn't have to eat much to maintain her 47 lb little body. We always make the ADR's as 3 adults and then ask our server to check with the manager to see if we can just pay the under 10 price because of her medical condition and size. The manager usually comes out to talk to us and makes the change. We have gone every year since 2003 and not once have we been denied the under 10 price. We never make a big deal out of it, we just mention it to the server. In fact a lot of the servers remember us when we return the following year. We are not on the DDP, so I can't comment on how that might work.

I love your idea of talking with the server. We are new DVC members and I have added DDP on our reservation., I am going to change it as I have the AP and can buy the tables in wonderland. I have to say that we go to Disney because they are so accomodating to families with disabilities. My son also has Marfan and Asperger (Autism). We have had some awsome vacations at WDW and they go out of their way to make it as low key as possible.

As a logistical thing, I don't think you can have DDP and not use it to pay for your daughter's meal. I believe the table has to be all or nothing?

Incorrect.

I had many meals last Oct with a friend who used her TiW card and I used dining plan with my son - and clearly we sat together.

The trip we just returned home from we all (3) had DDP and I refused to waste 2 credits on a kids meal at Yachtsman so we "paid" for DH and my meals with DDP and paid cash OOP for DS. That left him 2 extra meals to use - which we used when he was hungry and DH and I weren't that hungry (did inexpensive choices and paid OOP for our stuff).
