Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

hi Cam :)
try not to give yourself a hard time over the eating out - at least you are still working out :goodvibes
hope the business function went well

Thank you so much, Tracy, Debra & Tracey! Sometimes I feel like I am totally defeating the purpose of working out if I am not eating well, but then I remind myself that working out has to be a lifelong habit and a part of my routine, so regardless of whether I eat right, I MUST keep up the exercise. At least that much is a life change I've made. Next I will work on late night eating. :lmao:

Speaking of eating -- last night's business event/dinner was better than I thought it would be, and dinner was really good. It was a spinach salad, a rye & sesame roll, a dual plate that had beef & baked fish & scalloped potato pie. Dessert was a poached pear stuffed with dessert ricotta, served on a plate that was decorated with vanilla sauce. All of it was delicious.

Surprisingly, I was down .4 at weigh in this morning. Just imagine what I would have lost if I hadn't eaten -- hors d'euvres at Friday's cocktail party; bread, pasta and graduation cake on Saturday, more cake on Sunday; movie popcorn on Monday; cheese fondue and chocolate fondue at melting pot on Tuesday, that delicious but heavy dinner last night. ;) Geez!!!

Today:
B: 1/2 turkey & provolone on whole wheat wrap (lettuce & tomato, no condiments); coffee w/skim milk (~7)
L: 2 egg whites on wheat toast (2.5); brown rice, corn & kidney bean mix w/salsa (5)
S: lite popcorn (1); 1.5 apples (1.5)
S: bruschetta stuffed shell (1)
D: grilled chicken (4); tomatoes, green beans (0); fat free pringles & fat free pretzels (3)
dessert: WW ice cream sandwich (2)

There was a power outage at the gym this morning and they cleared the place out, so I didn't get to finish my workout. I am just grateful I wasn't running on a TM when the power went out; I am not coordinated enough to have avoided injury if that had happened.
Elliptical -- 30 mins -- 2.41 miles -- 313 calories
Bike -- 15 mins -- 2.55 miles -- 88 calories

There is nothing on the schedule tonight that presents a food temptation. :yay: I am getting my hair de-greyed and then Howard and I are working on vow renewal planning, including choosing the menu for our tasting session on 6/26. YAY!!!!! We are also going to put together an instruction sheet for his Mom for packing for our WDW stay and 4 day WONDER cruise starting on 6/26.

congrats on the WI!! Your exercise is phenomenal. Wish mine was!! :rotfl2:

Have fun doing all your planning this weekend! VR will be here before you know it!!

YUM, YUM... All this yummy food. I would like to try the Melting Pot. There is one here near us.

So glad your weigh-in was down! Congrats! :cool1:

You're doing really great on your workouts! Keep it up chick!

Stacie

Thanks, Julie & Stacie. I am trying not to upset myself with thoughts of a dress I bought last summer that I loved but which did not fit me. I had hoped that by this summer it would. I am pretty certain it won't fit in time for me to wear it for the cruise. That stinks. My own fault. I know it. Sure, I don't jiggle so much anymore when I walk or run, but heck, if I'm not losing inches in my torso, what good is it? ;) Seriously, though? My legs are looking pretty darn good. I catch a glimpse in a high-rise window front as I walk in to work and there is no doubt that my legs have totally changed shape AND size. All very well and good, but I wasn't having problems getting the calves of my pant legs to fit. Know what I mean? :lmao:
Oh, well, I'll just keep plugging along. It's not like the exercise isn't good for me. :thumbsup2

Funny Cam! I hear ya! I would like nice legs though. Hopefully that will come.

Keep on moving along! You'll get there! I hope your dress fits! Crossing my fingers!

Stacie

Thanks, sweetie! I havent' even gotten up the nerve to get it out of summer clothes storage yet. Maybe if I hang it on the cupboard door in the kitchen, I won't eat late at night. :lmao:

Okay, so my expectation is realized, sadly. The dress does not fit. It doesn't zip all the way up. I'd say it's probably an inch short of fitting (from mid-torso to bra line). Oh well, something to work toward, right? At least it is a tangible test to occasionally try it on and see if it fits.

Today, for the first time ever I RAN 2 MILES straight without stopping!!! I was supposed to walk 5 minutes to warm up and then jog for 25 minutes. I walked .25 miles to warm up (at 4.0 mph) and then jogged at 4.7 mph for 2 miles straight. I finished in 29:14, which means (after subracting 3:45 for the .25 mile warmup), I did my 2 miles in 25:29 which translates to my running pace of 12:45. Woohoo!!!!

Today's workout:
TM 30 mins -- C25K W7D3 -- 3:45 at 4.0mph (w/u); run 2 miles at 12:45 (4.7mph) -- total time 29:14 -- 337 calories

Bike -- 30 mins -- 5.4 miles -- 160 calories

Food:
B: coffee w/skim milk; 1/2 small ham steak; 1 egg; wheat toast-- (total 6)
L: grilled chicken w/green beans & tomatoes (2)
S: lite popcorn & coffee w/skim milk (1)
D: sm. jambalaya & sm. gumbo (10)

Hey...It worked in the Yoplait commercial "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" where all the girl ate was yogurt and the bikini hung on the wall!

You'll get there! Your worksout look awesome!!!

 for your 2 miles!!!! That is awesome and what a great pace!!!

You are really doing well! That dress will fit before you know it! When are supposed to be wearing it on a cruise? Is this a VR dress???

Have a good weekend!
Stacie

Cam - you're doing AWESOME with the c25k plan!! :woohoo: Congrats on your first 2 mile straight run. :thumbsup2 I'm so proud of you!!

As for the dress....don't stress about it. Like you said...you are definitely built different from last year. And that's from your hard work. ::yes:: You will get into that dress whether it's this year or not. You are very conscious of what's going on. I also agree that even though life doesn't allow us to eat good all of the time, exercise needs to continue either way. (now, if I can just get back to that point myself. :rolleyes1 )

Keep it up, girl. You're an inspiration.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Stacie! We leave for WDW on 6/26. We do our planning session and tasting session for the vow renewal on the day we arrive, Friday is EPCOT day and Saturday is Magic Kingdom day. On Sunday, we board the WONDER for a 4 day cruise that includes 2 stops in Castaway Cay. :yay:  I had hoped the dress might fit for our Palo's brunch. I'm sure I'll come up with something else to wear. :sad1:

Thank you, Kim! I was talking to my friend Judy last night and I was saying how food is completely my challenge. Working out is something you plan for and you go and do it in the morning and then it is done for the day. With the food thing, it is a challenge every waking moment. Literally. That is what I struggle with. You don't make a good deciison and do it and go on with your day. It is a decision you have to constantly make, over and over. And there is no "there. It's done. I feel great." Instead it's "okay, I avoided that temptation. That's good." And then the temptation remains, ever present and, well, . . . tempting. I can avoid pizza all I want today, but that doesn't mean I won't still want it and might not give in to that craving tonight. UGH!! ERRRRRRRRR....... MUST be good! MUST be GOOD!!! (as you can see, I am working on it.) ;) :lmao:

I don't know about anyone else, but this is how I live too. :headache: I struggle with the fact that my 80 year old grandmother still feels the need to watch what she eats, or deprive herself of a taste of cake....she's been the same size my whole life (a little chubby, I'd call her). I just want to find a happy place where I can eat good most of the time. Enjoy treats when they come along and be HAPPY. You know? (sorry, I'll stop hijacking your journal)

But you are seriously doing really well. ::yes::

OH, Kim, I think that is so sad. I'll tell you what. By the time I am your Grandmother's age (God willing), I will be willing to be reasonable but I won't deprive myself on an ongoing basis, as I seem to NEED to do now (not that I do it. :lmao: ). There has to come a point in your life where you are considerate of health implications but you are able to eat something if you want it, KWIM? :goodvibes

Well, I dragged myself out of bed this morning to go to the gym. The added benefit was that it got DH up and out as well to do his 7 mile run.

My exercise today:
Bike -- 30 mins -- 5.3 miles -- 173 cals
Elliptical -- 30 mins -- 2.2 miles -- 303 miles
Total 7.5 miles -- 476 cals

We are going to do something today that I just can't believe. We are going to attend a Christian Fellowship reunion at my college (2 hours away), on the spur of the moment. Even a year ago, I would not have had the self-esteem to go into a social setting like that without lining up friends ahead of time to meet there and to walk in together. Howard and I will just walk into the gathering place without having that kind of safety net. I've come a long way in a few years. I am hoping I will be comfortable at the reunion. Fortunately, even though Howard won't know anyone there, he is always comfortable in these settings and has heard a lot about my friends from the group, so hopefully, I will have the opportunity to introduce him to a lot of people.

Saturday's food:
pre-gym -- 2 slices light wheat toast w/1 slice FF cheese (2)
post-gym -- egg beaters w/salsa (1)

well done on the loss Cam :)
& well done for doing your 1st 2 mile run!
You really are inspiring me to keep up with my own training :)
food looks great, i think thats a great idea to hang the dress up where you can see it, i'm sure it will fit in no time.

Hi Cam,

Your workouts are looking good!:cool1: Keep up the good work!

How did your reunion go? Hope you had a great time!:goodvibes

Have a great Monday!
