Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Amy -- I am so sorry you have shoe/foot issues. I am really surprised. I definitely attribute my issues to my weight and how weirdly wide my feet are. ;) Thank you so much for your kind words and your support and encouragement, sweetie! You are just so amazing! I think of your smile and it makes me smile, too!

Well, day 3 is done, and with success! I avoided so many temptations today, including taco bell, fried chicken & chocolate drizzled popcorn.

3 day streak! It's ALL about the Dress!

Okay, the scale was down a tiny bit this morning. I just HAVE to get past the fact that all the working out isn't resulting in a free fall of the numbers on the scale. That totally stinks! LOL!

Today's food:
pre-gym: whole wheat tortilla, 2 sl LF turkey; 1 sl FF cheese; cfe w/skim milk (4)
post-gym: coffee w/skim milk (.5)
S: lite yogurt (1)
L: salsa chicken, brown rice & corn (6); green salad w/spray dressing (0)
S: apple (1)
D: baked eggplant, mushrooms, sauce & FF mozzarella (5)
S: 2 mini-pretzels, 2 raisins, 2 m&ms, 4 pretzel sticks (2)
Dessert: 2 nutrigrain lite waffles & lite ice cream; 2 dorito chips (6?)

(kind of heavy on the points today, but I had APs from biking/TM this morning.

Today's workout:
Bike -- 20 mins -- 3.5 miles
C25k -- W5D1-- 30 mins w/warmup & cool down-- 2.03 miles (ICK!!); additional 10 mins (.67 miles)
Total time and miles for day -- 60 minutes -- 6.2 miles

5 day streak of controlled eating! :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

Hi Cam,

Sorry I have been away so long. Congratulations on ordering your dress. If you are looking to drop some inches from your trunk, try Pilates. Even though my weight is up, I've lost a few inches from my waist and hips.

You are my hero! The way you are controlling your eating is really inspiring. You have so much going on, and you are making healthy eating a priority.:worship: :worship: You are also doing great on your workouts. I am really impressed.

I wore isotoner slippers to my wedding. I had a long gown, and no one ever say my feet. it was awesome. I danced all night and never had a twinge.

Keep up the great work,
Beth

Oh, my dear Cam. I'm so sorry I've been away for so long. :guilty: Congrats on the upcoming wedding. And I just loved dress shopping!! So much fun in store for you.

Your workouts have been CRAZY!! Look at you, burning 1000 calories! I need you as my trainer!!

I was also thinking about the Philly 1/2 in November. We'll see with my current injury. But I know what you mean with the 1/2 in January. Why risk all those long races. One of these days we need to meet up! Maybe Jen and I will take a road trip....;)

Beth -- I am taking your advice. I've ordered the following DVDs - Pilates & Yoga for Dummies, Pilates for Dummies & Pilates for Weight Loss. I am hoping to mix it up a bit with the running, biking & elliptical at the gym in the hopes of shaking up my body a bit so that it will start losing pounds and significant inches.

Kim -- I am really looking forward to cheering for the September and November Philly races. I HOPE you are wayyyyy beyond healed in time to train for September but I think it would be just as fun (and less exhausting) to scream team. So, whatever you decide, I will hopefully be there on the sidelines either with you or cheering for you! Oh, and I would LOVE to get together with you and Jen. We could always meet at the Cherry Hill Mall food court on one of these trips when I go to "visit" the sample of my dress. LOL!

So, before the band banquet last night I ate broccoli and then some weight watchers pretzel crisps spread with laughing cow cheese. But I still succumbed to the snack mix on our dinner table -- lots of pretzels and some gorp mixed in. I hadn't used a single weekly flex point and had many unused activity points all week, so no big deal. And I am giving myself major kudos (not the sweet kind. ;) ) for NOT getting any dessert and sticking with bottled water all night. AND I didn't eat anything at all before bed. :yay:

Food today:
B: whole wheat wrap w/2 slices RF turkey & 1 sl FF cheese; coffee w/skim milk (4)
L: applebees WW grilled chicken over spinach w/RF cheese (5); coffee w/creamer (1)
S (pre-gym) : whole wheat pasta w/veggies (3)
D (post-gym): whole wheat pasta w/veggies (finishing up leftovers) (3); salsa chicken, brown rice & corn (6) (more leftovers
dessert: WW ice cream sandwich (2)

Activity:
Bike -- 15 mins -- 2.6 miles -- 78 calories
TM (C25k W5D2) -- 30 mins (incl. warmup & cooldown) -- 2.07 miles -- 189 calories

Hi Cam,

You are doing a great job!! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Congratulations on ordering your dress! :bride: That is so exciting!!!

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend ahead!

Thank you, Jen & Tracy! You guys are so wonderful! :grouphug:

Weigh in this morning wasn't as great as I'd like, but every little bit helps. 1.4 down. I'll take it.

Food today:
B: whole wheat tortilla w/RF turkey (3); coffee w/skim milk (.5)
L: 2 slices whole wheat bread; sliced turkey (estimating 8 pts)
S: WW pretzel crisps (2)
D: 2 medium baked potatoes; 2 sl FF cheese; mushrooms, onions, broccoli & salsa (8)
dessert: lite ice cream on 2 kashi waffles (yum, but a lot of WP!) (7)

Activity -- walking 20 minutes

I agree, 1.4 pounds lost is great!! :woohoo: And I love that you got the Dummies exercise series. I've done the Yoga one and am doing the Pilates one currently. I agree with Beth in that I think working that core/powerhouse will be good for you and that beeeyoootiful dress of yours.

I loved how you made a rational, but goal-setting, decision about ordering your size. I can't even imagine the stress of dress shopping, sizing, looking for shoes, etc. I've been married twice--one elopement and one JOP. I just don't know if I have it in me to do the whole wedding thing. Maybe I'll feel differently about a VR after reading how excited you are. Of course, it helps that you and Howard are about the cutest, most romantic couple I know.

And I wanted to say that...since I'm catching up on your journal and have been able to read your daily meal and exercise logs one after the other...I'm really impressed with what you've been doing. Very conscious eating and controlled portions. A lot of exercise--and you're already on W5 of C25K--and variety there. Plus you've got a lot of 5Ks scheduled to help keep you on track and the Wii to keep you motivated. :cool1:

Now, if only that pesky work would stay nice and calm!

Hi, Julie! Thank you so much for visiting! I know how crazy your life is, even in FL!

Debra -- You are so sweet! I really, really appreciate all the positives you point out to me. I really needed to hear that this morning. I have been on such an emotional rollercoaster this week because work has been so stressful with a state supreme court argument and 2 depositions. I didn't sleep last night at all and decided very consciously when the alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. to stay in bed an extra 1.5 hours. I wish I could say I feel as well as I would have if I'd gone to the gym. UGH!

I splurged last night on lite ice cream on 2 kashi waffles. It was definitely too much food for dessert and next time I'll do it on just one waffle, but it was certainly delicious. :goodvibes It was day one of my WW week, and I definitely had the weekly flex points and they are there for occasional splurges so I do not feel like I broke my controlled eating streak. To me, that would be when I graze the cabinets or can't even remember what I've eaten.

Today:
B: whole wheat tortilla w/LF turkey & 1 sl FF cheese & coffee w/skim milk (4)
L: green salad & whole wheat tortilla w/LF turkey & 1 sl FF cheese (3.5)
S: weight watchers pretzel crisps (2)

Tomorrow is my 5 mile race. My furthest distance for the rest of the year until the 1/2 in January. I am so excited! :cool1: Not about the race, mind you, but about putting it behind me! :lmao: Now, if I could just get my overall pace below 15:30, I'd be totally thrilled. :yay: :woohoo:

HI Cam!!! Great news on the 1.4 lbs!!! Yippe! Hope you have fun on your race this weekend!!!

Have a good one!
Stacie

Congratulations on the 1.4 pounds lost, Cam!!!:cheer2: Keep up the good work!:thumbsup2

I hope you have a great, relaxing weekend. Have a great time at the race tomorrow!:cheer2:

I wanted to post about my 5 mile race yesterday. We didn't run this one last year because of a dear friend's Bat Mitzvah, so I am comparing my results to 2 years ago. Here is the write up from May 2006 race:
keenercam said:
Overall, it was extremely enjoyable. My gun time showed a 15:30 pace, but my garmin time was a very solid 15:15 pace. Unfortunately, at the finish, they were collecting bib stips by 3 different people with absolutely no precision on timing or order. So, I was really glad to have my Garmin to give me an accurate read.

As for yesterday, this is one of those races I am truly proud of. This time it wasn't about finishing. I really wanted to push myself and do my best. My goal was better than a 15:15 pace, but with how exhausted I've been all week and not getting coffee yesterday morning, I'd resigned myself to being pleased with 15:30 overall pace, especially with an uncorralled field of over 10,000 runners.
My other goal was to run for 20 minutes straight to make up for the W5D3
couch to 5k workout I'd missed on Friday. I figured if I could jog 20 minutes, I'd feel ready to move on to the next week of training.
In reality, during those first 20 minutes of jogging, I wanted to walk sooooo many times, but realized that I'd then have to restart the clock on the 20 minutes if I was going to meet that commitment to myself. So, I did it. I jogged for 23:11 (the last song was longer than I thought). It was so exciting to do that. I actually realized right around minute 18 that I wasn't feeling badly at all, that I could definitely make it to 20:00.
My final time was 1:11:37 for 5.07 miles, an overall pace of 14:08, and I know it was slower at the end because of the crowds. I finished this race in tears, not just of gratitude for being done, but for pride in doing it well. I ran most of it, albeit slowly, and I challenged myself most of the time.
My splits were:
mile 1 -- 14:00 -- best 11:57
mile 2 --14:34 -- best 9:32
mile 3 --14:04 - best 8:48
mile 4 -- 14:08 -- best 10:32
mile 5 --14:06 -- best 10:59
final fraction -- pace 10:56 -- best 8:05 (probably the sprint to the finish)

Food has not been controlled, though I haven't eaten anything that Howard characterizes as "not dress friendly". :lmao: Just too much volume of the good stuff. Getting it under control, for sure.

-------------
Saturday activity - -5.07 mile race + 1.0 mile to and from where car was parked -- 6.07 miles (for my team challenge, this counts as 11.14 since event miles are doubled) -- 95 minutes total

Today:
B: RF cheese omelette; lite MG EM; shredded potatoes; ham steak
S: celery w/laughing cow cheese; FF potato chips; 94% RF popcorn
D: london broil; chicken breast; green beans

Activity:
Pilates -- 35 minutes
Wii boxing -- 15 minutes
Wii bowling (continuous) -- 15 minutes
Wii tennis -- 10 minutes

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Cam....I am SO proud of you. :woohoo: You totally ROCKED that race!! :woohoo: Look at some of those paces!!! You are a speed demon in training! :goodvibes

Your food looks wonderful too! Keep it up!
