Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Thank you so much, WISH friends! I really appreciate that you take the time to come here and encourage me. I promise I will get to journals soon. Life is so crazy right now and I just can't see a light at the tunnel until after DS's 8th grade graduation and party on June 10. Then I'll be able to sit back and relax a bit and breathe!

The scale showed a 4.2 pound loss of all the weekend's water weight between yesterday morning and this morning. I am still much higher than I should be and several pounds away from my low point, but I'm plugging along.

 Cam,

Keep on keeping on WISH sis!:cheer2: We all have times in our lives when we fall off the healthy living wagon. Just do the best you can do, Cam and I know you'll be back on the healthy living wagon!

Have a wonderful week! Please be sure and take some time for you!

Thank you, Tracy! (and I am so glad you are feeling better! )

Food today (just to get back in the habit of journaling it here):
B: coffee w/skim milk; 2 apples (no time)
L: garden salad w/can solid white tuna; steamed broccoli & cauliflower
S: 94% FF popcorn
D: 97% FF hot dog (plain); 5 oz london broil; 1/2 cup egg beaters; steamed mushrooms & onions
dessert: ww cheddar twists

Calorie count for day: 1240
Water: 96 oz
Exercise: 100 crunches; 100 push ups (23 days in a row)

It's tough being on track all the time. So long as the majority of the time you are eating healthy I think you are doing well.

I should at least mention I fell off the wagon last week and not only did it drag me for a while, but it ran over me and then backed over me too. Did I mention "ugh!"? QUOTE]

Me too Cam!!
Glad you managed to get back on track, i'm hoping to do that today ;)

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; 1 cup WW vanilla puff cereal w/1 banana a 1 cup skim milk
L: garden salad w/can of chicken breast in water; steamed broccoli & cauliflower
S: 1 cup watermelon (5:00 pm)
S (pre-gym): apple
S (post-gym): banana
D: ????

Calorie count: 1194
Water: 108 oz by 10:00 pm
Exercise: 60 mins TM (4.0 mph, but started incline at 3.0 and moved it up to 5.0 -- burned 499 calories)

Hi Cam
Food & exercise looking awesome :)
Have a great weekend!

The weekend was insanely busy with our friend visiting from Australia, but so outrageously fun! Of course, I ate wayyy too much, including candy and popcorn at PoTC3 on Sunday.

Back on track yesterday and I've started my formal training plan for the 1/2 marathon on August 12. Here is the cross-post from the weekly training thread for yesterday:

Oh, man, I am in biggggg trouble (no, it doesnt' involve exploding coke or XT with ropes!) I decided I'd follow the MfM walk/run the half plan for CDC and only just got around to putting the plan on a calendar to follow. Turns out I missed the first 4 weeks or so, but since I've been spending some time at the gym, I thought it would be okay to try to "catch up".

Can you say "stonker"? Tonight's requirement wasn't that hard: 5 minute warm-up and then walk 3/run 1 for 40 more minutes. Well, I've been doing an hour of more demanding intervals and last week did a lengthy session at 4.0 w/increasing incline up to 5.0. So, I thought this wouldn't be hard. I had SUCH a rough time. UGH! Shin splints from moment one and they didn't go away after the first mile like they usually do. I hope I can pull this off. Well, even if I end up doing w3/r1 the entire CDC instead of w3/r2, I will be okay with that.
TRAINING -- Here's the workout:
5 minute warmup at 4.0 --> .33 miles
w3(4.0)/r1(5.2) for 40 minutes -->2.87 miles
total -- 45 minutes, 3.20 miles total
Then 30 minutes on the bike (~5.5 miles).

Machines say I burned 450 calories; sparkpeople calculation has it over 500 cals.

According to sparkpeople, I took in 1,171 calories yesterday.
I've decided my goal is to lose 5.8 pounds by June 26, so that the second number in my weight is the next number lower. 3 weeks. Seems almost impossible, based on how slowly my body gives up the pounds, and especially since I am now in race training mode, but . . .

I am going to be more disciplined for the next 7 weeks than I have ever been in my life, in the hopes of going into our WDW/cruise vacation at a great weight and awesome level of fitness. This weekend will be difficult because I'll be busy Friday and Saturday with Special Olympics and we'll have a houseful of people all weekend for DS's 8th grade graduation celebration. I'll drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruit and hope it all goes well.

Today, I'd already had 24 oz of water by the time I arrived at my parking garage.

Hi Cam,

You are doing a great job with your eating!!! I hope things slow down for you soon,

Keep up the good work!

Have a great day :)

Training:
Today’s requirement: 5 minute warm-up and then walk 3/run 1 for 40 more minutes.
Monday I did 4.0 mph/5.2mph (2.87 miles; pace 13:56), but decided to increase walk speed and tone down jog speed a bit today, and see what kind of extra distance that yields.
Here’s today's numbers (I LOVE numbers! Sometimes seeing some improvement in the numbers is just what we need to re-energize ourselves):
5 minute warmup at 4.0 --> .33 miles
w3(4.2)/r1(5.0) for 40 minutes -->2.94 miles
(pace 13:36) (just .07 miles more, but maybe I could build jog speed as time goes on, and pace improved from 13:56 for 20 seconds per mile.)
total workout -- 45 minutes, 3.27 miles total

Hi, everyone!
I am sorry I havent' been here in a while, but life has been completely insane. I am on the organizing committee for Special Olympics summer games which I absolutely LOVE!!! The event was Friday and Saturday (and I am one of the co-chairs responsible for all meals except Saturday breakfast) and DS's 8th grade graduation was Sunday and his party was right afterwards. So, I'll have to share with you the email I sent to some friends explaining my "neglect":

Okay, here is how events unfolded last week:
DMIL arrived Wednesday. Weds evening Howard insisted I meet all at Costco for party stuff and then dinner. I got there from my office at 8 (having left my cell phone on my desk), did my party shopping list real quick, dinner at applebee's, on the road home at 9:20 from 20 minutes away. Highway closed; I'm in my car alone with no cell phone, in a strange area, can't read signs, etc. and finally get home close to 10:30 with Howard and DMIL very worried. Actually, I was proud I found my way home. Bed was at some normal time, probably 11:30. YAY!

Thursday -- up early and to the gym before work; worked until 10:30 pm; highway entrance closed; major backroad that I know was closed; can't figure out how to get from point A to point B. WHat should have been 7 mile drive in 12 mins turns into me arriving home 11:18 without having had anything since lunch. Up until 1:15 doing special olympics paperwork and 100 crunches & pushups.

Friday -- up at 5:45; arrive at campus (30 mins away) before 7 a.m. (that was the last time my bottom touched down until 10:05pm). Supervised all food prep, service, and clean up for lunches, dinner, and victory party. Missed opening ceremonies because we were too busy. :o( Finished serving lemonade and pretzels at 9:45 pm, clean-up done by 10:05, sat down next to DMIL in arena lobby to wait out storm. On the road home by 10:30. Home by 11. DSalmost14 tries on clothes for graduation and pants and sleeves on suit are at least 2 inches too short. !!!!!! After settling down from my panic, I did Special Olympics paperwork on the computer; checked work email and responded to some; 100 crunches & push ups; in bed by 1:30 am.

Saturday -- up at 5:30; shopping for additional lunch supplies and arrive at campus by 6:45. Supervise and execute all meal prep, service & clean-up. Spend some time at main medical facility nearly hyperventilating after DS fell down the stadium steps and concrete-burned entire outside of leg, with 3 large oozing, seriously "indented" abrasion wounds & 2 lacerations (thank God no injuries above his hips and nothing broken). I can't even imagine the scarring he is going to have. A lifetime of regret for a moment of stupidity -- some girl with a major crush was chasing him on the stadium steps. Left campus at 6:30 pm; Howard took DS with him and stopped to pick up some suits for him to try on at home. I went to Costco for an errand for a friend and dinner for Saturday night houseguests (oh, did I mention I had a houseful of people Saturday night for the graduation?), to the grocery store for Sunday breakfast items for all houseguests, to the pharmacy for the list of medical supplies recommended by doctor who took care of DS. Home to do wound care, dinner for all, dealing with suit issues. Straighten house; gather pictures and find frames and create displays for graduation party; gather all serving pieces, etc. & lay out all non-perishable food items for Sunday breakfast & party. Paperwork on computer for SO after-event notes. crunches & push-ups. In bed by 1:30. (I was so grateful my friend Marie hemmed DS's pants Saturday night and she and DD18 helped cut up stuff for the party. YAY!!)

Sunday -- up at 5:45. Wrap brother's bday presents; pick up cake, balloon bouquets, bday cards (to replace lost cards); home by 7:50. Leave at 8 for Mass. Attend Mass & Graduation & reception. Home by 11:45. Set up for party. Last guests leave at 7:40pm. Clean-up. Return several phone calls. Thank you calls to friends who helped with party. In bed by 11:30. Phone rings at 11:38 for Howard's mom. When I can't find her, I realize she's in DS's room because I never put the guestroom back together after other guests used it Saturday night. So, I made the bed & straightened the room and got back to bed by midnight.

Up yesterday morning at 6:30 (didn't make it to the gym). Howard took his Mom to Atlantic City last night. I had a project deadline of midnight, and ended up being done and out of the office around 8:10. Went home, had dinner, did crunches & sit-ups, some reading and in bed by midnight. Up this morning by 7.

Geez, I am so exhausted. I think I figured out I'd had less than 20 hours sleep in 4 nights, but my average is improving because I am up to almost 27 hours in 5 nights! LOL!

So, exercise (except for crunches & push-ups) hasn't happened since Thursday a.m. Tonight I have to spend time with DMIL who is leaving tomorrow. The gym won't happen in the morning either since we are taking her to the airport by 7:30 a.m. Maybe tomorrow night! Food has been so bad since Saturday night. Things are under control again today, but I fear the scale!

Okay, that was long and boring! ;) Sorry, dear WISH friends for exposing you to that. :rotfl2: I know, I know, one excuse after another!

Life HAS to calm down now and I can settle into a routine of training for my next long race that is 2 months from today. I have 3 5ks in the next 22 days so at least I know I have some work-outs on the calendar! Now I have to get back to properly fueling my body for them.

I've decided I am going back to eating strictly on weight watchers core plan. I seem to do better when I am very strict and restricted about eating snacks, etc.

Today's food:
B: coffee w/skim milk; fat free cottage cheese w/frozen berries & cherries
L: chicken breast; broccoli; green salad
Snacks for the day: watermelon, pineapple, apple, hard-boiled eggs
D: diet coke chicken (leftovers); green beans

I really have to make some time to cook some zero-point soup and some lean turkey chili and the like. Quick-grab foods that are all core and low in calories.

HI Cam,

Whew you are one busy lady!!! Looks like you are doing a great job, despite being so busy. So sorry to hear the DS fell and hurt himself. But as you said, at least there wasn't any broken bones. Hope he is feeling better soon!

Keep up the good work, you are doing great!

Have a great day :)

Wow Cam i'm tired out just reading how busy you've been!!
Hope your DS is ok, it sounded a nasty fall!!
Hope you get time to 'chill' soon!
