Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Thanks, Kim! I really appreciate the encouragement.

Well, I went to the gym last night and did my 40 minutes. It was 2.89 miles, which I believe is about 13:54 pace or something like that. I actually jogged for a 3 minute stretch, which I have never been able to do. There were moments during that interim when I felt good and strong, and other moments when I was watching the timer. I'd LOVE to get to a point where I could run for 3 minute intervals mixed with equal or slightly greater recovery walks at a 15:00 or better pace.
I have a long way to go before the marathon, but am glad I am training up to the 1/2 and getting that jumpstart on training for the full.

Food today:
B: 1 serving light turkey (1); 1 sl fat free cheese (.5); 4 slices light whole wheat toast (3); coffee w/sugar free creamer (1)
S: grapes (1)
L: salad w/fat free feta (.5) and kalamata olives (1); veggie mix (0); lima beans (1)
S: wasa crisps w/1 laughing cow wedge & 2 slices light turkey (3)

Saving the rest of my points for movie popcorn! Hoping I can get in to see the new Toby Keith movie tonight after my hair appt. :cool1:

Way to go Cam! :Pinkbounc You are doing such a great job with your exercising and marathon program. You are gonna do a great job in Disneyland! :cheer2:

I hope you have a wonderful day today! :sunny:

Cam!!! :grouphug:

Wow...training is going so well for you my sister in marathoning ;). Soooo proud of you...what an awesome 40 minutes you just did!!! And I have to tell you that you are doing an amazing job with your nutrition...it's SO hard during training to eat light...i'm just hungry ALL the time. And you are making such smart food choices. VERY impressive! I know it's going to pay off for you :).

And the Half is very nearly here now. I can't wait to hear a detailed race report. I know you are going to have so much fun and really do well. What a great race to lead up to WDW! You know I'll be thinking about you and all the other wishers running in DL. :grouphug:

And thanks so much for taking the time to stop by my journal. It means so much to me!!!

Thank you, Tracy & Amy! I am excited and nervous about DL, because it is the first event I am doing without my WISH buddy, Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty). She will be on a DCL cruise, so I'll have to make sure I make her proud.

Food today:
B (7:30): whole wheat toast, coffee with cream (4)
L (1:30): wasa crisps (1.5); light turkey (1); laughing cow cheese (1)
S (4:30): apple (1)

Wow, Cam! Your training is going really well! Almost DL time!!!
I can't wait to read your report. I think you're going to do AWESOME!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Cam-Every time i come here, it seems like your training is going so well! I cannot wait to hear about DL when yo uget home--i know you will do a great job!

Thanks, Jen and Julie! I really appreciate the support!

I went and did my last LR on the TM last night. I had a really rough time having forgotten my socks and burning 3 blisters in my feet almost from the first steps. Glad to know I can go 5 miles in pain. Overall time was 71:00 for a pace of 14:12. Hoping I can do that 8 days from now.

Hoping to get in 3 more short training sessions this week during the taper. We leave Friday. I am so excited and nervous.

Hi Cam-
I know you are on your way already!! I cant wait to hear about the 1/2...You will do great--i know it!!!!!
GO CAM!!!

Cam!
Thanks so much for your WW snack ideas. They were so helpful. I ended up switching to the core plan so I could eat more. I was just plain starving. It's working well for me. I lost 2lbs last week. Hope you are having a ball out in DL. Best WISHes for you in the 1/2!

From my little one:  :scared1: :beach: pixiedust: :rolleyes1

Love ya!

Oh wow, today is the day!!!! We're sending you all the positive vibes and pixie dust we can send!!! Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!!!!!!! :sunny:

Not sure when you get back, cam,,but wanted to let you know i am thinking about you..i cant wait to hear about the trip!!

Hey Cam!

How did Disneyland go???? I've been thinking about you and wondering how it went... I know that you did a great job! :cheer2:

Have a great Sunday! :sunny:

Thanks for all the support, guys! I thought so much about all of you during the 1/2 marathon. There were actually times I fantasized about quitting but didn't want to give up on myself or let my WISH friends down. I was so exhausted, having gotten less than an hour of sleep and felt as if I had not a drop of energy left in my body.

Thanks to my good WISH buddy, Kristi, who stayed with me during a couple of rough miles and kept a great pace, I finished with plenty of time to get my medal. My official pace was well within the required limits, despite the crowds, bottlenecks, dreadful hills and unrelenting sun. The medal is gorgeous!

We had such a great time during our stay in California.
Some of the highlights (so I'll remember later :teeth: ) :
Friday: going to the Expo and seeing Anne and Robert (other WISH buddies) there and getting to talk at length with John Bingham (the "Penguin") and Coach Jenny and getting pix and autographs. Then heading to Goofy's Kitchen and sharing a delightful dinner with Anne and Bob

Saturday: our first visit to Disneyland and hanging out with TiffJ and her sweet mom, Brenda; the wonderful WISH meet at Downtown Disney, our first trip to Build-a-Bear; seeing fireworks in DL, and (partial explanation for my exhaustion Sunday) going to the Fantasmic 10:30 dessert buffet with gallery seating

Sunday: the half marathon and then dinner at Blue Bayou

Monday: a tour of DL and DCA; 5 free fastpasses; reserved seating for the evening parade

Tuesday: moving to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel; dinner at Storyteller's Cafe with our awesome server, Vincente who has done 18 marathons and gave us the best service we have ever had, anywhere

Wednesday: another day in the parks, almost no lines so we had FPs left over! evening parade right in front of the train station with all performances taking place right in front of us; dinner from Brennan's Jazz Express (beignets!)

Thursday: travel to Santa Monica, walking on the beach and the pier (brought sand back for DD18 who is at college); travel toward Hollywood; stop to walk on Rodeo Drive; shopping at Shoppingtowne; drive through Hollywood (past the Hollywood premiere at Graumann's for "Jacka** 2" --wish it were something fun) and into the Hollywood Hills; move to hotel near LAX.

Friday: brunch at Cheesecake Factory; spent the day at Warner Brothers Studios, where DH's childhood friend is the Producer on a great new sitcom and showed us around the studios and took us to a rehearsal and taping of the show.

Saturday: uneventful flight home where DD was visiting for weekend and we got to spend some time with her away from campus.

I ate wayyyy too much all week and gained 5 pounds despite all the walking and the 1/2 marathon. Have been sick since I got back so haven't focused at all on eating right or exercising. Am trying to get back on track today.

Food today:
B: coffee w/ half and half (2); light english muffin w/2 slices light turkey (1.5)
L: salad w/ff dressing (0); weight watchers toast w/light turkey & ff cheese (2.5); mickey pretzels (3)
D: LC panini (6); pretzels & ff chips (3); 1 sugar free mint milano cookie (1)
dessert: light popcorn (1); bite of WW bar (.5)

Hoping to get to the gym tonight for cross-training. Time to get in the groove of training for the FULL marathon in January. Geez, the things I do for "bling"!

Feeling back on track today since yesterday was my first day within my WW points since 9/14. Getting back to the gym made me feel much better too. Didn't do so well with the WW guidelines, but I'll work on that.

Thank you so much, Jen! Yes, I now own a gorgeous, honkin' HUGE castle medal that says "Inaugural" on it, so there will never be another one like that. Pretty cool. :goodvibes: Now that makes it a Donald, and a Minnie and a Sleeping Beauty Castle. Going for the Mickey in January, though I seriously doubt my sanity in that regard.

I did well after posting last night -- finished up some work on the computer and then went to bed without eating anything else. Since late night binging has always been an issue for me, I consider every night like that a small victory.

Stepped on the scale today and I am only .9 up from before I left on vacation, so I guess all the walking did help and the very high weight on Monday was not real. Thank God.

I really, really want to lose 20 pounds between now and the FULL marathon on 1/7. We leave on 1/5 so I think I have something like 100 days in which to do this. It is such an unrealistic goal for me, but it's good to have something to strive for. I can't remember when I have ever been able to lose 20 pounds in 3 months, but it seems it should be do-able with a lot of discipline and a lot of salad.

Food today:
B: whole wheat toast & coffee w/skim milk & tiny bit of cream (3)
S(noon): apple (1)
L: garden salad w/light turkey & ff dressing (2); 2 slice WW traditional grains toast (1)
S: regular yogurt (3 -- OUCH!!!)
D: lean cuisine cheesesteak panini (6); salad w/fat free dressing & lite ham & turkey (2)
dessert: pretzel crisps w/cheese spread (4)

I have to leave work early tonight to take DS to Boy Scouts and just can't figure out how to squeeze in a trip to the gym. I may be able to run home and change into gym clothes, drop him off a few minutes early, run to the gym for 40 minutes on the TM, and then get back to him in time. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can make that work.

---------------------
Summary of Day:
WW healthy eating guidelines:
F/V -- 6
water --80 oz
milk -- 1
vitamin -- yes
points -- 22/24 :)
Exercise: 2.17 miles on treadmill in 30 minutes (2 APs)

Congratulations Cam!!!! :Pinkbounc I knew you could do it! :cheer2: Do you have your castle medal in a place of honor? You have done such a great job with all of your marathons the past couple of years. I am so proud of you!

It sounds like your trip to Disneyland was a magical one! :wizard:

Have a great day! :sunny:

Thanks, Tracy! I really appreciate your support. Believe me -- I would have never earned that medal without the support of my WISH friends. I thought of you guys the entire race. :grouphug:

Actually, the medal is in my pocketbook right now. I figure there just MIGHT be an opportunity to show it to someone. :teeth: Right now, I also need it to remind me of what I can accomplish if I put forth the effort, and it is going to take a LOT of effort to get myself to the start line on 1/7/07 and even more to get me that ::MickeyMo medal.
