Camry vs Accord

We have a 2007 Camry XLE and had a 2008 Accord EX-L (sold bc DH wanted a truck, made the decision solely based on the fact that the Accord was black and hard to keep clean and the Camry was almost paid off). We like both and they really are so similar it'd be hard to choose a favorite. The Camry had a better stereo, very smooth/quiet ride, better A/C and gel-filled seats, the Accord had heated seats and handled more sporty but also a slightly rougher ride. Toyota had much better customer service in our experience. That being said, when my Camry bites the dust one day (hopefully far in the future) the plan is to replace it with a slightly used Accord. I like the looks of the Accord over the Camry :)

ETA: Our Camry just has a pass-thru that folds down on the rear arm rest whereas the entire backseat folded down on the Accord. That was nice when we didn't have a truck. Both have backseats roomy enough for 3 adults, I'd say a little more room in the Accord.

I bought a 2003 Certified Used Toyota Corolla in 2004 and my Mother still has it. Given how hard she is on cars, it is still doing rather well.

I bought a 2006 Honda Accord in 2007 and it had 14K miles. DS has it now and given how he is, it is still going good.

I bought a new 2012 in December 2011 and am happy. We are about to buy another Honda Accord for DH.

My issues with Accords. I wish they would take care of the road noise. That's it. They ride good, handle well and get good gas mileage.

Personally, I like dealing with Honda over the Toyota dealership.

My DH's last two cars have been Camrys bought used. Before that, he had an Accord. The two that had to be replaced were both over 150,000 miles and going strong when someone pulled out in front of him (both times). When we bought his current Camry, it had 50,000 miles, and our mechanic said it was just getting broken in and should go another 200,000.

My main question would be, do you want a sportier-type of car that hugs the road as you drive, or do you want a car with better shocks that rides well?

We owned a 2000 Avalon and 2002 Camry until 2011. Then DH totaled the Camry and we test drove both the Camry and Accord and decided he wanted the sportier-hug-the-road feel of the Accord. Then we moved so I needed a new car and between the Prius and the Accord, again it was the feel (and the price) that decided me on the Accord.

Both great, long lasting cars. I think there's a little more value in the Accord personally since the basic stripped down LX models have a lot of bells and whistles that Camry doesn't, but we're not bells and whistles people (though now that I've had bluetooth and a rear-view camera its hard to imagine going back ... I never would have opted for them if they were options, but use them daily and am glad they were included).

You can't go wrong with Camry or Accord, but I would encourage you to also consider the Nissan Altima. Carefully compare new and used models of your final selection. My absolute best advice to you is to drive the car you will be buying for at least 30-60 minutes in a variety of road and traffic conditions before finalizing the purchase. As a professional in the auto industry, I cannot tell you how many people regret vehicle purchases a short time after initial ownership, which is the worst situation to be in with any vehicle purchase.

I had a new 2000 Camry for 12 years and traded it Nov. 2012. I test drove new models of the Camry, Accord and Altima. I chose the Altima, I love both the look and the way it drives. Nissan also gives free lifetime oil changes. Not sure if that was a promotion or a permanent perk.

Are you saying new should not cost more than used? Or you cannot do research or negotiate a deal on used?

That doesn't make. All things being = the used will be a better deal.... Except it isn't new. Unless the new warranty is way better. OP is warranty same for new vrs 2 nd owner?

IMO used is our families choice (newer used like bought a 2012 in 2013 bought a 2010 in 2012.). It saves us at least 20% and the last one closer to 50%.

I am unfamiliar with both these, but only deciding point is features for 1 yr of wear and tear, and price is same. Easy I'd go used.

This is not always true, especially today. Used cars are near historic highs. It is not at all unlikely to find a good deal on a brand new vehicle with full warranty for almost the same cost, especially if you are financing since new cars often have lower APR than used. Plus, the total cost of ownership over the intial period could be at worst a wash or at best better for the new car given the longer warranty even taking depreciation into consideration (not as big a problem due to the aforementioned historic high used car prices).

Don't just assume used is always cheaper.

This was my original point!

My SIL was just in the same boat. For the heck of it she and BIL went to look at BMWs. Her new BMW was cheaper than the Honda Accord she was about to buy.
