Campsite sharing?

Is it possible to share a campsite with another Dis family - since they sleep 10? ... At 1/2 the cost?

Possible? Yeah, I guess so with tents if each family had just one tent since they have a limit (is it two or three per site???) Probable that you'd find someone staying the same dates that was willing to forego a little privacy and take the risk that you're not of similar camping styles in order to save some bucks? I doubt it. Plus, you'd have to work out the finances and trust that the other party wouldn't be obnoxious and get you kicked out or something dumb like that. Maybe two families that were friends or related might work.

Several years ago someone came on here asking to share a site, but had a gazillion stipulations that nobody would ever dream of agreeing to...actually I think she just wanted to be able to use someone's site during the day and they could use it at night - something weird like that.

1) Sure.
2) It would be just like your family and your brother's family on vacation together.
3) But, I would personally not share my tent with a stranger.
4) After all, they could be those TYPE OF PEOPLE with whom you don't want to associate.
5) YOU KNOW THE TYPES !
. . . people who snore more than you do
. . . people who don't put the toilet seat down
. . . people who prefer propane over charcoal-or-wood
. . . people who think "roughing it" means dead batteries on the TV remote

MrsPirate,

This subject comes up not-quite-annually but it does reoccur. In past threads a few DIS posters have volunteered if dates matched but by and large this isn't a popular topic. You didn't provide enough details if you would be tent camping or what. Some types of campsites at the Fort are all concrete and thus not conducive to tents. Two camper/rv units aren't allowed on a site.

Also with regards to cost savings, the cheapest type of sites are $60 per night at rack rates. Is it worth all the hassle and doubt for $30 a night? That's a VERY small amount in a Disney vacation (even on a daily basis).

Also despite any assurances you might give, if the site is in my name then I'm responsible for my party (and you are sub-letting, so to speak). You could do something irresponsible and get all of us tossed out of the Fort (it's happened).

I've shared a site with family but I wouldn't with a stranger. You have other options to save money (get a hotel off site for example and visit the Fort in the day) so the juice isn't worth the squeeze (as my old boss used to say).

I remember that thread. The lady was a nutcase. She wanted to use someone's site for a day so she could bbq, have a picnic, and swim. But she didn't want to share a site with anyone who had pets. She didn't want to share a site with anyone who used scents, perfumes, or smellable deodorant. (I guess the smell of pine trees would give her the hives). And she didn't want the legitimate site payers there at that time.

She was certifiable.

Right! I remember that it was pretty nutty with her demands!

Agree with all the above. I would share with a friend or family for sure, but somebody I do not know? No.

Thanks for all these thoughts. Although I'm not finding these $60 sites... What about if my SIL has a camper and I have a tent - ate there campsites to accommodate that?

The rates for tonight in a Tent/Popup campsite at the Fort (often referred to as a Partial Hookup campsite) is $54 plus tax. But that rate is the lowest for the least expensive type of campsite at the least expensive time of the year. Cheap times (all things being relative) are Jan-Valentines Day, August-Mid December with the exception of Thanksgiving week. Rates also rise a little around Halloween. Weekends are a little more costly than weekdays.

You didn't specify WHEN you were looking as rates vary widely by time of year and site type. $60 is the low end but the high end is $150 for a Premium site between Christmas and New Years. The weeks before and after Easter Sunday are almost as high.

If the camper your SiL has is a popup or hybrid, you could get a Partial but as far as Disney is concerned only one of you is the customer of record (paying) and the rest of you are members of the payer's party. What you work out with SiL is between the two of you. You can also get a Preferred or Full site (same type of site only difference is location in the Fort) which have a driveway long enough for a camper and a tent sand pad for you. As I mentioned the Premiums are all concrete and it's pot luck to find a space adjacent to the drive to set up a tent. The smaller your tent the better your chances. Disney rules allow one tent with a trailer on a site and the total, as you said, should not exceed 10 people. You will have to specify the name of each person in the party when making the reservation.

So to answer your question, yes you can put a tent and a trailer on one site within the guidelines above. Anyone else, correct me or add anything I missed.

I would enjoy my stay more by not sharing a site because...

1) I don't talk before coffee in the morning.

2) I am early to bed and early to rise...but not as early as others.

3) I don't want to have to wear jammies.

4) I don't like listening to TV or radio when camping.

5) I love to read and don't want to be on someone else's schedule for meals if I have a chapter to finish.

6) i might not like the smell of their food or the sound of them chewing it.

Oh boy! Back in the old days of Gatordad and Shan-Man (God bless his soul, he put a lot of work into some projects like the Google Earth sites). I remember that thread being one of the first I read into after joining. (Raising a glass to toast the memory of that first good laugh)

Well at least you'll be in good spirits for your next call!

and Shan-Man (God rest his soul, he put a lot of work into some projects like the Google Earth sites).
What happened to Shan-Man? I loved the Google Earth sites. One of the best ways I could decide what loop I wanted.

I went back and rewrote that post to make it clearer. One of those things where you type it first and hit enter without re-reading and making sure your wording was clear. Sorry about that, didn't mean to cause alarm. Haven't seen nor heard anything out of Shan in a long time.

Where are all of those great wine drinkers? They were opening bottles after every other post!
