Hi, OT here, but you people have such creative ideas I really wanted some input on this subject. We are going camping Next weekend in the Adorondaks. This is the first time my dd will be going camping. I was looking for some good ideas for creative things to do with kids while camping. She is really excited, so I want to make this trip special as well. Thanks in advance.

We usually stay at campgrounds that have scheduled activities throughout the day, but we also enjoy biking, just walking around the campground looking at all the sites. We often fish (the kids like to catch and release and they usually don't charge if you release). Being in the Adirondaks you will probably find great hiking trails. You could also make a diorama (spelling) of things you find around the campsite. My kids made them at school using a shoe box and rocks, twigs, flowers etc and glue them in the box leaving a window to peek into the box. Board and card games are great for passing time. Whatever you do you will have fun enjoying the quiet and spending time as a family.

We too choose campgrounds with planned activities. We always bring our bikes & ride together. Our son is only 1 so he goes in the bike trailer & loves it. We also fish & take walks, let the kids play at the playgrounds. Of course, our kids love sitting around the camp fire each night singing songs, rasting marshmallows & cuddling. Camping has been the absolute best family time we have spent together. It is very slow paced & we are absorbed in each other. You will love it!

Dh's family has been camping in the Adirondacks since he was little and we plan a trip each year. We took DD last year but can't go this year because I'm expecting soon.
We went "hiking" quite a bit. We usually just walked around the campgrounds b/c dd was too little to hike. We easily walked miles a day and she loved picking up pine cones, rocks, etc. I think I printed out a nature scavenger hunt from the internet and we would find the things and point them out to DD. Your dd is older than ours was so she'll probably get a kick out of that. We also spent a lot of time at the beach. DD never wanted to leave the sand so we spent a good portion of the day there.
If it rained (It poured quite a bit last year) we hung out in our screen house playing games and a few times we found some stuff to do in the local towns or we ventured over to Vermont.
Oh, we also brought glow sticks that were a huge hit. We had kids and families stop by and ask where they could buy them when we were sitting by the fire at night.
I hope that's helpful and you have a great trip!!

DS13 & I leave in a few hrs to go camping in Maine for the July 4th wknd. We'll be coming home Tues so that gives us 4nights in a cabin w/kitchenette & bathroom.
The campground always has lots of planned activities. Im looking forward to what they may have planned for the holiday wknd - should be fun.

Thanks for all the replies. I am so excited to take her. I am sure we will have a fun time. Thanks for the ideas.
