i know this is a forum for fort wilderness.

but did not know where else to post it.

does anyone know if there are campgrounds near universal studios?
since they are offering military free tickets i am thinking about squeezing in a trip inbetween 2 disney ones. but would like to camp to save on some money.

thanks for any recommendations.

Turkey Lake, City of Orlando CG. 407-299-5581 $18.00 per nite for full hook-up.

Ive heard many good things about Turkey Lake...and at THAT price...ya cant go wrong for a Universal trip.

It is a full hook-up RV site.

I haven't heard if tents are OK so you might want to ask.

BTW a partial hook-up is $15.00

I havent heard that tents ARENT allowed....but thats a good question.Im gonna call and ask them right now.

They DO allow tents...there is a seperate area set aside for tenters....golf carts are generally not allowed, there is no cable, all rv sites have a grill provided...the tent area has several grills as well.

get this.....

TENT SITES ARE $7 A NIGHT!!!!!!

I have a feeling that Turkey Lake will soon have alot more business due to the forts increase in prices...Im fairly certain that when I plan a "parks" vacation and will be spending most of my time AT the parks.....I will be sleeping at Turkey Lake.....http://www.CampAtTheFort.com DOES deliver their camper to Turkey Lake....savings all the way around!!! Now, granted...I will STILL plan FtW vacations (I hope), but not if I will be spending time and money at the parks.

hmm what a dilema i am facing now. $7 dollars versus $61 for the fort.

i wonder if those tent sites have electric hook ups? i would not even consider it with out electric for the a/c.

would you recommend this for a single parent and her child?

i don't plan to spend the whole day at universal/ioa, we will be spending time at the campsite, so do you think fort wilderness would be better? or the lake?

I didnt ask, but I doubt that the tent sites have electric...but its easy enough to upgrade to the partial hook up and pay the $15-$18 for electricity, which still beats the heck out of $61. BUT...if you plan to spend any amount of time chilling, and NOT at the parks....you honestly CANT beat the Fort.....its so full of stuff to do and enjoy that, IMHO it justifies the additional cost.

I mentioned that if Im going to spend considerable time at the parks, and am only needing a place to sleep, shower and shave and do laundry..the Turkey Lake campground is a true bargain..but its only a campground. The Fort is so much more than a campground...its a playground, you can get the "magic of Disney" from the fort without ever visiting a park. We went to Universal Studios last may and stayed at the fort.....I would have HATED that vacation if it werent for the Fort....I was so completely disapointed with U.S., I compared everything to Disney and just felt like I couldnt wait for the kids to get tired so we could go back to the Ft and have some fun.

If it's a separate area for tenters, can she still get a partial site ?

great thanks for the fast reply, i will get in touch with my ta and book the fort.

as i agree with the added things to do at fort wilderness.

thanks for all the info and sorry that i sort of went complete circle on this.

That's OK we are all 'loopy" anyway.

Have a great time.

lol...Denise is right....we're a buncha nuts..but we, like you, prefer to weigh out all the options and make our decisions based on what we really feel is considered value...sometimes value doesnt have a lot to do with lower prices.
