Camping Community Board??

I've asked in the past if we could get a camping community sub forum, a place for off topic posts - mainly a social forum.

So far no response, before I continue to pursue this I'd like to get the opinions of those who visit the camping board to see if anyone has an interest in this.

If you are looking for a place to keep the "rowdies" then I guess that would work, but then this part will be just a boring question and answer section.

The camping board was initially set up as a trip planning forum, we have many people who have a passion for camping / RVing and Disney, with these things in common it's nice to socialize virtually, the DIS community board though runs at the pace of a new york minute, so having a community board for our group i think would be nice, that way we can still have a trip planning forum and a place to just talk about whatever.

Since I might have precipitated this to some degree, I voted no for the following reasons:

1. There is already a Community Forum on this site

2. Making a sub-forum might result in some that come here mainly for the atmosphere, camaraderie and to chit-chat might only visit that new sub-forum and newbies or people actually wanting information might not get their input which IMO is valuable.

3. The current system can handle issues where things get off track and as long as nothing really important to FW or Camping at FW is in the current "chit-chat" thread then no harm no foul so to speak.

To put my comments somewhat in perspective, I spend most of my time on four websites, this one, two Diesel ones (PSN and TDS), and RV.net. I go there to share my knowledge with those looking to learn. For Atmosphere I have my home, for camaraderie and chit-chat I have my DW and those two have served me well for almost 40 years and don't need any cyber relationships. However, like probably 90% of the campers, get me face to face with a real person and I can be a "Chatty Kathy".

Well Larry, what are you trying to say, that those of us that do desire "cyber" relationships are somehow lacking?

And if you ever tried to chit chat with my wife, you would know why I come on here LOL

Not at all it's just not my thing since it IMHO isn't real. I'm ole school and think the computer and the internet is for knowledge and information and when I think about all the sexual predators, U-tube causing suicides from a cruel joke, schemes taking advantage of others that play on the emotions of others and the list is endless, we're off on the wrong track. Remember I said that just to put what I've said into context and I know others will disagree and that's fine, but one needs to understand where I'M COMING FROM. See your comment of taking something personal that was not intended and me having to write this post and basically waste both our times is why personal things such as feelings and taken the written word for something other than something factual is dangerous. Ten can read the same written statement and take it 10 different ways.

See, you took my post the wrong way too, I agree with you on most things, I was just trying to lighten this place up a little, hence I put the at the end of my post. I agree about the internet having some shady characters around, but I feel pretty safe here, everybody seems to be down to earth (with the exception of the BDR guy, he seems a very shady )

Larry, I don't agree with the idea of these being "cyber" relationships. I've already met Donnie (stacktester), Ray (surferrat), ok Grumpy, Tuffcookie, and a couple others. John (RVusa) says he will be in Michigan this summer and I hope we can get together and bigdisneydaddy lives in Michigan so I might get to meet him. And, I really hope to meet Rog (everybody knows who that is) someday.

Rog is even cooler in person than on the board!! I'm really looking forward to 5/24 (MDGG) when I will be able to meet a bunch more of the "cyber" friends!!

Yes, I have a lot of friends in a lot of places, but your circle of friends can never be too big!

The social part is not the same without helping people and the just answering questions is not going to keep this forum " alive " and fully staffed with people ready to help at any moment IMO.

I posted yes. I find it time consuming to weed through all the clyclical duplicate posts of information that is very trivial. I just want to have a virtual forum. For people that are concerned with what loop they are getting 4 months from now, let them go to their own special place.
