Camping Community Board??

Would you want a camping community sub forum?

  • Yes - I'd love a community board just for campers

  • No - I like the chit chat thread format currently in use.

  • No opinion - Happy either way

I would NOT like to see anything change. A subforum seems like it would be there to exclude newcomers...and I really like when we kidnap new posters and initiate them into our little family. The more the merrier. I LOVE having the answer to a question from the new folks, and I love to see their reactions to the obscene silliness that goes on and think that most are very impressed with the way we welcome them into what would seem to be such a tight knit group. Its obvious that being "part of the gang" isnt for everyone, but I think that MOST enjoy being welcomed into a group of maniacs...besides..like RvUsa says....we have cookies on the darkside!!(and he calls ME shady!!)

I had just made a post on the Memorial day GG thread saying I may not be able to make it due to financial set backs...but this thread has made me determined to make it...I feel the need to PROVE that "cyber relationships" can be just as strong as any relationship one may have with their nextdoor neightbors....I HATE MY NEIGHBORS!!!!! But you guys here......ya'll are alright in my porno magazine!!! And we always need new meat to abuse and confuse!!

That would be me! A dry question/answer forum just wouldn't be the same.

Larry, I don't agree with the idea of these being "cyber" relationships. I've already met Donnie (stacktester), Ray (surferrat), ok Grumpy, Tuffcookie, and a couple others. John (RVusa) says he will be in Michigan this summer and I hope we can get together and bigdisneydaddy lives in Michigan so I might get to meet him. And, I really hope to meet Rog (everybody knows who that is) someday.

I agree that once you have actually met someone after that it's no longer a cyber relationship. I have met one other DIS member here in person.

I think the useless facts thread covers this pretty well, even though it is sometimes rather cumbersome to wade through, especially since I don't have time to get on as much as I used to.

I like pretty much everybody on this board. I like Larry, but I think he is a little up tight (just kidding, Larry). I like Gatordad but think he may be a little uptight too (also kidding). I think BDR could be a little more uptight (maybe kidding, not sure). I have a list of people I would like to meet in the future and think my life will be a little better as a result. I am probably more guilty than most re. hijacking threads, but honest to God, Rhonda, I try to either answer the legitimate question first or at least wait until somebody else has before I start going offtrack with Kungaloosh, beer or my worthless tidbits of information that clutter my mind and are just dying to see some daylight.

Jim I like your antics, don't change a bit!

I think having a seperate forum is a bad idea. We are a community here already, we still give and get the info as it is requested,in a timely maner, it is just a lighter atmosphere, and I like that. I don't see why it is such a big deal, honestly. In fact, I haven't been on much this weekend just because it frustrates me that I have to think through my posts 50 times before posting it to make sure I didn't go off topic anywhere, or say something that someone may take wrong, or somehow come across as an eccessive drinker because I mention a beverage. It stinks really. I apologize now if I am out of line saying that. But I can't stand the stuffy stick to business kind of forums. Like I said before, I came here from a different one for that very reason. I think if you make a "community" to go to then the questions will be left to the moderators to answer. Because the only people left coming here would be the newbies that have the questions therefore couldn't answer any. Did that make sense?:rotfl:

Old time Ozark sayin...Iff'n it ain't broke....don't fix it.

I belong to numerous forums, and this is the only
one that is FUN for me each and every time I cruise thru it.:cool1:

At my age I'm tired of the BS....if I want self styled experts I'll go over to RV net or such.:dance3:

I actually would like to meet most of the folks who post here, and would go
out of my way to do so (Yeah..that includes Rog and Pete):lmao:

I like it just the way it is. I enjoy (at least thinking) that I am helpful to those asking serious questions, I love it when new people come in and find our little insane world of goofy FRIENDS!!!!! I was "captured" that way and I wouldn't change a thing!

Seabee----don't fret! It's obvious you and I and many others are just drunk floozies. Come on down to the Kungaloosh commune and be one with your inner partygirl! :rotfl2: btw, just in case anyone takes this seriously...it's called humor!

I stopped by your trailer a couple of times over Christmas and you were out (either that or you knew it was me and someone else warned you about answering the door)

I voted to keep it the same. It's the great folks in this forum (and ALL of their personalities) that keeps me coming back....and of course our common love of camping, outdoors, WDW, and FW!!

I would personally like the sub forum, because to be honest, it's really hard to keep up with everything when it's all in one thread, and I think a lot of us miss a lot of stuff.

I have become far too lazy when my main complaint about the new place would be that I would probably not use both. eventually one would stop getting used because I would not feel like backing all the way and then in another door. Then you lose the fodder for the additional comments on top of that. One scenario would put us all back here again with the other being taken over by others, otters, others, oh whatever:lmao: . Also, I don't think that if we had the other forum that it will stop people from posting about what they read or, reacting to those post. It's not that I don't think the concept is great, seperate the chatter and the info but, I just have too many scenarios in my head where it is great on paper but in practice would not solve the problem. There I go being part of the problem instead of part of the cure again.

I'm assuming that Chit-Chat, would be part of a sub-forum...is that correct?:confused3
Also a camping community board would be a place where we would be able to post other topics that we might want to discuss at greater length than the quips in Chit Chat. When in past we have posted other topics, the threads are removed or moved to Chit-Chat. So....maybe it's time to consider a sub forum.

I do feel that the questions posed by new comers are answered in a friendly and welcoming manner. For those looking to get a quick answer, without any opinion..well, they're probably not on the right board. Most questions are answered with in a few posts, and then the posters are going to get responses from those who have experience in relation to the question posed. Along with a good deal of opinion. As I stated in the "plea" thread, we are a very diverse bunch, each of us bringing something different to the table. That is reflected in our answers to those posing FW questions. It is also what keeps people coming back and not leaving after they get the answer. I don't think that would change because of a sub forum.

The board has changed signifantly in the last six months or so. Or at least that is my observtion. Perhaps, it is time to consider some expansion. Those that enjoy the banter in the Chit Chat thread, would still be able to do so...or at least I would hope so:confused3

Been busy lately, but I really don't have a preference. What ever works for everyone else. Now I've gotta go to the chit chat thread and catch up.

Could we have an otter thread if we had a sub-forum?

2 browser windows or tabs and you could view both forums easily:surfweb:

Yes in a way, most likely the chit chat thread would be history replaced with individual subject threads, basically a place for the "regulars" (which includes anyone who visits on a regular basis - hourly, daily weekly monthly etc.) to post topics not related to trip planning at the Fort.

I should mention I've been considering this for some time, it is not a result of recent discussions, just trying to make it easier for both the newbies looking for trip planning information and keep the natives happy by giving them a campfire to talk around.

It may not even be an option, I've had no response from the webmasters or forum owner, just trying to gage interest before moving further.

But of course - how much fun would a camping community forum be without an otter thread :thumbsup2

I stopped by your trailer a couple of times over Christmas and you were out (either that or you knew it was me and someone else warned you about answering the door)

At home we never, ever answer the front door unless we can confirm it's the USPS, UPS, FEDEX, or flowers for an occasion we know where we get them or neighbors. We live on a pipestem and with the door to the garage off the family room we can look down our drive to the cul-de-sac we live on and can see what vehicle someone is using ... no vehicle no openee (is that really a word ... don't think so :lmao: ) However, camping we have never not opened the front door if we're there so the former was the case in your post and not the latter. :thumbsup2

Once you get to know me in person, I'm not the hard... that I might come across in cyber space.
