My DH has decided he wants to camp in FL for our fall/ early winter camping trip. Would be the week after Thanksgiving which we all know the Fort is full. Any decent campgrounds near Disney? We were just in Disney in Sept so don't necessarily need to do parks but I would like to be close enough to visit and maybe Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party. Thanks

I like the Thousand Trails kampground. I think it's off of HWY 27 :confused3,, bout 1/2 hour or so from Disney.

There is a KOA in Kissimmee right off of Rt. 192. My parents were looking into staying their prior to checking into Disney, but opted for Daytona instead. I have talked to some people that have stayed there and it is a very nice place.

I also suggest Lake Louisa State Park. Quite close to the parks, very inexpensive and a nice quiet setting.:cheer2:

k_reile,

The Disney calendar/room finder on Disneyworld.com shows Full sites available for 12/1-12/7 which to me is the "week after Thanksgiving". The other types show not available. Is that when you wanted to go? If so best grab it.

Thanks but with the size of our camper my DH will only do premium sites.

East of Disney on 192 Tropical Palms is the closest, then Sherwood Forest and both could handle large units. KOA is further east and small closer to the highway.
Which ever you pick have a wonderful time and safe travels.

We have stayed at Both the Fort, Tropical Palms, and the Orlando/Kissimmee KOA.

I have to say next to the Fort, the KOA is the best. The sites are extremely long, widish, and they offer full hookups (50/30A as well as cable). We are currently staying there until march, and i have to say i haven't been disappointed. The amenities here are plentiful, the showers are clean, the pool is crystal clear, the laundry is affordable, and the general store is stocked with anything you may need. Heck if you buy firewood from it, they'll deliver it to your spot for free. They even have a few premium spots that include a Bench Swing and a propane BBQ. All spots do include a fire pit/ring and a picnic table. At most my commute from the KOA to the Studios where i work has been 30mins. And that was a busy weekend. The KOA is located off Seven Dwarfs Lane(which is right off 192) across from the Sams Club.

As for the Tropical Palms, it is a nice big campground, although i feel that they put more work into there rental bungalows than there camp spots. The showers/restrooms were dirty, the landscape around the campers looked maintained to minimal standards and one of the managers was fairly rude to me when i had a very minor issue to be resolved. Also the Resort is located near a parking lot carnival that seems to have set up residence and never left. Makes it feel like one of those sketchy areas on 192 that i just dont feel comfortable being around very long.

What above said.
We have stayed at the Kiss KOA twice in the last two years. Nice large sites and great staff. Would highly recommend. Fifteen minute drive to the World.

Thank you for all of the replies. Unfortunately we might have to table the trip until next year (which we would be at the fort). I hit a deer yesterday with my van and it sounds like we may have to get a new van, which that trip money will probably be going towards a new van :-(

Wow! So sorry - that's a bummer. We have had some close calls this fall so far also, one was in our MH when we had just left home for a trip. My DH hit one (or rather IT him in the side of the car) a few years ago.

Aside from the damage to our vehicles when that happens, it is a scary experience as they CAN cause serious injuries.

:goodvibes
