Campfires?

When we were at FW in February we saw a few campers with firebowls (not sure of the exact name for them). It is enclosed on top with sides that were semi-open. They looked so neat, and we meant to ask a CM what the policy is on them since they don't allow actual campfires, but we forgot to ask before we left. We would love to have one for our trip in October...does anyone know if they are allowed, or did the one's who had them just not get caught?

I'd like to know what they are called also. I have seen them in camping photos (not FW) and would like to get one for our upcoming camping trips (again, not FW).

The topic of fires at FW was discussed under another thread. FW rules only allow charcoal fires in the grills. All other open fires are not allowed. :earsboy:

No open fires may be the official policy but many people use the portable enclosed fire pits. Disney even uses a picture in the photo gallery of a huge fire built in a grill on a campsite in the latest vacation dvd. It looks like flames at least 3 feet high coming out of the top of the grill.

I can understand the no fire rule. Disney has so much to lose if a fire was to get out of hand and 700 campfires in such a concentrated area would really smoke up the place. Not to mention that there are so many first time and or infrequent campers at Disney that it would be just a matter of time before a fire got out of hand.

The dumb things I have seen some people do with campfires in state parks makes me wonder how all the state parks in Florida have not burned to the ground.

I'll have to say that they just probably didn't get caught. However, this last October I saw several of those covered fire pits in use--many in very visible locations on sites. I have one, but I've never bothered to take it to FW.

I also saw several people using those tiki torches this last trip. I think these may be some of those rules that they enforce more rigorously during brush fire seasons. I do know that during one trip while the fires were really bad whenever we would fire up the grill (with the green hose stretched out toward the grill just in case) FW security would drive by--just to check?

Oops, I missed that info on the other thread...sorry to have reposted the question. :D

The portable fire pits we saw were also very visible, so I don't necessarily think they were trying to be rule breakers. Maybe they thought since their fires were "enclosed" that it was okay? One of them was across the canal from us at the backside of another loop, and that fire was roaring every night. :earseek:

In any case, we'll just continue to get our "campfire fix" at the campfire sing-a-long. Thanks!
