Anyone ever do the campfire sing-a-long at the fort wilderness cabins?

Staying at SSR but thinking of going over there one night for the campfire. DD4 would love to roast marshmellows.

Is it any good or not worth the time?

It's a lot of fun - it's by the Meadows Trading Post and they have a campfire, sing along, Chip n Dale show up then they have a Disney movie. There's smores stuff there you can buy./ Park at the overflow lot and take the internal buses back to the campfire. Have fun.

I've been to the campfire twice. Once in 2003 and again in 2005. This was before I had a kid! I had a blast (in my 20s), so I think a 4 year old would love it! I think Chip & Dale still make an appearance, which is always fun. The singalong part is great, and who doesn't love watching a Disney movie under the stars?

Make sure you bring a blanket! Our trips were in October and February, so it got a bit chilly.

We stay at the campgrounds and the sing-along is great! You can buy s'mores packs from the chuckwagon behind the benches. They come with sticks, marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. When you are done with the sticks you just put them in the fire.

Chip and Dale come around for a meet and greet. And then when the singing and chip and dale are done, they start the movie. Its quite a bit of fun, people are normally very friendly. And the best part, ITS FREE!!!

Listen to NTSAMMY5's directions or take the bus to MK, take the boat to MK and then walk or take the internal bus up to the Meadows Trading post for the campfire!

Enjoy!!

This will be our first time going in Dec and we can't wait. Any idea how much the smores are that you can buy to roast?? Sounds like tons of fun....and free makes it even better!!:rotfl2:

I think its about $2 or so. It wasn't too pricey. Enjoy!

We are planning to do this after our dinner at Whispering Canyon next month. How would you get from the Lodge to the campfire without a car?

There's a boat that goes around Contemporary, FW and WL. You would still either walk or take an internal bus from the dock in FW. Also, I think the bus from WL to DHS stops at FW, (it did last October) ask at the desk to see if it still does, that will be another way to do it.

Use bug repellent. We went during September and it was fun, but after we sat down for the movie, the no-see-ums came out! We left before the movie was over - we were tired (went the night we got there) and got tired of swatting mosquitos (we did NOT have bug repellent!). The Smore's kits were cheap compared to other Disney treats! We had enough left over that we gave the rest to the little girl in the family sitting beside us.

We'd definitely do it again - took the OFF with us on the last trip, but didn't make it out there.

I have been and made my s'mores fireside and I've gone when I've pre-made the s'mores and it worked SOOOOOO much better with a lot less mess (and you can clean up in your room before heading over). You wrap the s'more in foil (while still at your resort) then just place near the fire to be heated up (no stick needed). Way less mess, better gooey melt, instant eating surface, and little to no clean up.

A couple s'more recipes for you:
the usual chocolate bar and marshmallow
chocolate frosting and marshmallow
chocolate frosting and marshmallow cream (fluff)
chocolate bar and fluff ---this one is our favorite flavor combination

Using frosting and fluff means you don't have to wait for anything to melt just heat for warmth.

I think I must be the only person in the world who puts peanut butter on my s'mores! Yum!

Anyway, is this campfire thing only for those who are staying on Disney property?

There is now inter-resort bus transportation connecting FW to WL. It will be clearly marked that bus is going straight to FW (it srops you off at the settlement). When you are dropped off you can either walk to the campfire (located at near the meadows trading post) or wait for another FW internal bus that says either outpost yellow or outpost orange (either of these buses will get you close enough). I know, sounds confusing but is quite easy and newbie's should ask as they go.

Do you sit on the ground or do they have chairs?

They have metal bleachers for a raised view in the back. They have long cut logs to sit at nearer the stage/screen. You can also bring your own blanket or chairs, it's quite casual.

I'm confused. isn't the campfire on the grounds that wcc is on?? It is listed that way on Disneys website?? We are going to wcc next monday and we would love to do the campfire afterwards! If you have to travel how do you get from wcc to the campfire?

Nope WCC is at WL the campfire is at FW. It''s about a mile walk (a little more to get to Meadows) or you can take a boat to CR then to FW or there is a bus (or used to be). You can also drive to the overflow lot at FW and take an internal bus back to the campfire.

hmm.. so why does wl advertise the campfire singalong on there section on the official disney world website?? i dont mind walking but im not sure te kids will be up for it after a day in the prks.. theres gotta be another way without having to take a boat then a bus lol

I'm no Robo, but here is a map showing the location of WCC (the red circle) and the campfire (the blue circle.) They just under a mile apart, as the crow flies. It would be about 1 1/2 miles to walk.

The road between WL and FW is not lit at night. Planning to walk is not a good idea.
