We would like to rent a camper for our next trip . any recommendations? i saw that you cannot use ovens in the Greenberg campers. Is this normal for the other companies?

Hi Sheepdog. I don't know about rental companies but I did have a propane oven in my popup that I traded in this year.

Propane ovens are really of limited use. Mine operated with a pilot light way in the back of the oven. To light it I had to get down on my knees and reach one arm with a lighter back to the pilot while raising the other arm up over my head to keep the knob pushed in for the gas to flow. It was a little like playing Twister.

I know your rental company could set the pilot light for you but if it went out it's awkward for someone unfamiliar with it to try to get it relit. Also as far as ovens go, it was small inside (couldn't handle a 9x13 cookie sheet) and while it had a temperature knob with 250-300-350 etc., it was accurate to +/- 50 degrees and wouldn't get very hot at that.

I've always looked over the years at popups and trailers and I've seen that oven (same brand and type) in units up to the present day. It doesn't go in high-end units so I can't say any unit you would rent would have it, but I honestly think if you did use it you would be unsatisfied. It doesn't cook like your oven at home.

We had a thread on ovens and Greenberg about a year ago (use our search tool - I found it). The rental trailers are a great alternative for folks who want to camp at the Fort but don't have the trailer to haul there (or it's too far). Having an oven sounds like a nice option but in reality it doesn't add very much at all net-net.

Hope you end up having a good experience with a rental unit.

Thanks Bama Ed. I spent almost all of the my kid years at the fort and have a certain attachment to it which i would like to share with my kids, who unfortunately have developed fine tastes and only want to stay at the Beach Club. If we hadn't planned on being there in january, I would just bring our tent, but it can be really cold and I do not want Three cold kids. We are DVC members and could try to transfer more Points to cover the length of our stay, but I still really Think that it would be fun to camp. I just forgot about the oven thing since we only used the pop-up a few times. I guess with the savings of the campground, we could eat out...

1) I have done a check on availabilities.
2) It is shame.
3) Let your kids know the Beach Club (and ALL other Deluxes) are sold out.
4) Therefore, they are forced into staying at The Fort.

By the way, when are you going?

:cool1:

Sounds like a good plan rusty scupper. I have booked reservations for a year from now. I am currently in treatment for breast cancer and we all need something to look forward to at the end of it all to keep us going. I would love to stay at a deluxe but I want to just go and chill with a few days in the parks and reload our batteries. I am just worried that we may have a January with freezing temps like i have experienced in the past.

Wishing you the best with your treatment Sheepdog, truly! I have used the oven in the other camper rentals (myrvhotel and flcamperrental) but not Greenberg. I don't know why they have that policy. I use the crockpot more but ODS needs his chicken fingers so I need a 400 oven!
