Never stayed at the fort. Currently have a camper reserved from Greenberg and a site reserved in 100, 200, or 300 loop. The total cost, per night will be about the same price as a cabin. I am traveling with my DH, DD, DSiL, and 2 wonderful little grandsons. We figured that the site choice would be good for MK days, but the newly remodeled cabins look nice as well. I would love to hear everyone's take on this. Thanks

If costs are comparable, I would choose the cabins if it were me.

What time of year are you travelling? There is currently a summer discount which does not exclude the cabins so it probably does have a fixed number of discounted cabins available (discounts up to 20% for Moderates which is what a cabin is): https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-offers/awaken-summer-room-offer/

That discount expires in August but the last two years there has been a room only discount from late August through September which IIRC has also included the cabins on a similar discount path.

Also I would ask for a cabin in loop 2100 or 2200 up near the entrance of the loop which puts you nearer walking distance to the pool and core area (trading post, campfire, etc.). Some of the cabin loops and if you are at the back, it can be a longer walk to the bus stop or other areas.

Years ago we did multi-generational trips in the cabins. It was fun.

We are traveling the week after Thanksgiving. When I say that the cost would be comparable, I'm assuming some sort of discount. I believe that rack rates would make it more expensive for the cabin. We originally wanted a cabin, but we were worried about the fact that they seemed to be sort of inconvenient. Since my husband and I are footing the bill for everyone for this trip (lodging, meal plan, tickets, etc) we are trying to save where we can. Thanks.

Okay, So I am going to go against the grain here. I think the Rental is a better choice. First there are 6 of you. While a camper can get cramped at 6, you probably have options to get a larger Rental as opposed to the cabins. From what I have seen (as I have never stayed in them) they are all the same size. even the renovations don't change the size of the cabin, it just re-configures them (and takes away the normal oven too). So really space wise you can achieve the same thing, even better with a descent camper.

I also feel like being in a camper is more like "Camping". Okay, so it's "Glamping" but being in a cabin is just like a hotel room in the woods. Okay, so it's still better then a hotel room in a high rise....

Personally, I'd rather have a nice tent but the DW won't go for that. :(

Either way, cabin, rental (or tent :) ) I am sure you will have an awesome time at the Fort. Take lots of pictures because there is lots of wildlife and don't forget to be "kickin' it at the fort" (and add those pictures to that thread!:drinking: )

Well now i am wavering.

If there is no discount for a cabin and the site/rental combo is cheaper, the savings does add up. Plus if that is early December, the Camping loops are more decorated with Christmas stuff than the cabins are.

So less cost, more decorations, i am leaning back toward the site/rental.

Depending on the size of the rental I'd lean towards the rental. There is only one bathroom in the cabins and while there is usually only one bathroom in rentals you will be closer to the comfort stations. Plus in the camper loops you will be closer to all the action.

I won't waiver on this .. :) UNLESS you get the Luxe fifth wheel or that big park model.

If I were choosing between a cabin and MY FIFTH WHEEL in a camping loop, then I'd choose the camper every time. However, we are talking about a rental that will hold no emotional attachment to the renter. In general, the cabin will be much more comfy than any rental trailer. More sleep space, larger bathroom, larger kitchen, larger living area, better water pressure :)

better water pressure

Not sure which sites you have been at, or if this reference is a result of the trailer's plumbing, however, my first stay at the Fort, with our camper, I failed to realize the higher pressure coming out at the sites. It was so much that inside or TT it was leaking at the various fittings. That's when I, after some "investigation", realized I needed a Pressure Reducer. Since I didn't have one on that trip, We ended up using the hose to keep filling our Fresh water tank and just used the "Pump" for our water needs. In that way, the pressure was much reduced.

Now I have an inline pressure regulator. It works well, and the pressure is more than adequate for us. I will say, however that the shower pressure/flow is probably better in a cabin because the showers in TT/5ers/RVs are LOW FLOW for multiple reasons, primary probably being that the "Storage" tank sizes (for both fresh and waste water).

Of course I'd agree as well that if it's a choice between MY camper and the cabin, it's mine every time too. I suppose it's that emotional attachment, But the rental option versus a cabin is a tougher call. Lots of factors to consider. As you point out the size of things (although some 5ers are just like home). We are in the process of trading our 2005 Coachman 27tbs in for a Coachman Catalina 343qbds. My FIL described it as, "It's not a camper, it's a mobile home". Even the shower is almost normal size.

If not for the DW though, I'd be happy with a Pup Tent (okay maybe a little larger than that).

I appreciate all of your comments. If I decide to switch to the cabins, which would you all suggest? Thanks
