Camp Kitchen

To all you tent camping experts.......

Is a Camp Kitchen worth the money? I haven't figured out yet how to organize the camp stove, cooking stuff, etc. Any suggestions?

Some of the pics I've seen it looks like some people use a couple of tables to set the stove, etc on. I keep looking at the camp kitchen that Cabela's has. But I was reading at another site that it's not worth the money.

All I know is that I need a more efficient way of getting breakfast ready. Last time, I was having an anxiety attack trying to keep my kids out of trouble while cooking breakfast. I ended up burning the food (yes, that was me who stunk up the 900 loop last Halloween morning. lol. - my apologies.)

Anyway, ......camp kitchen? which kind? or don't bother?

Our scout troop has two of the Cabela's kitchens and they are really nice, but they really aren't necessary. We rarely unpack the food to put in the kitchen. I've got a fold up table from Wal-mart and keep my stuff in some heavy duty cargo totes. I pack my stove and utensils in one and the food in another. The totes double as small tables and I shove them under the folding table when not in use. It's really all up to your style of cooking and how much you want to spend. If you want it and will use it and can afford it....have at it!

I picked up a brand new Coleman's Kitchen on Ebay for $100.00 and it's huge! We haven't used it yet but I'm the kind of person who needs a sink so any trip where we are cooking it's a must have for me.

I don't think it can do anything but make life easier while you're roughing it.

I use pretty much the same method as Brer Bear..the cooktop on a collapsable table made of aluminum, utensils and cookiware in a plastic tub, food in another, and a smaller plastic tub as a sink for washing dishes...I think the campkitchens look nice...but I can get by without it.

We have This one we got at Sam's for $49. It has "S" hooks on one end that I hang cookware and utensils on. We have a popup so I cook on the outside stove on the popup and put the table nearby to do prep and clean up. The wire rack also makes a good draining board. This one is small and light enough to be able to move it out by the grill. It is nice to have a dedicated table to set up the same way every time and get everything out and organized.
