Hello, sorry if this question was asked already, but the search function wasn't working. I was wondering how many of you have insurance on your digital camera? And if so, who do you have the insurance with and how much do you pay?? We just bought a camera, and a rather nice one at that, and I want to make sure nothing happens to it, like theft. Thanks a lot!!

Some just rely on homowners insurance. But I am not sure that covers accidental damage. Like leaning over a railing and dropping the camera. And have you ever put a claim in on homeowners insurance? I am sure they will raise your rates because of it. Plus there is usualy a deductable!

I have personal article insurance on our two laptops, two cameras, one cell phone and one Ipod. Total insurance coverage is about $5K -cost per year is about $85. No Deductable!!!
Purchased through State Farm. Luckily, so far, I have not had to test it...

Unless you buy full replacement value you will only get depreciated value and that could mean a big hit.

Does that apply to homeowners as well as PAI?

I am going to check my policy....

My Canon S2 IS was stolen in NYC this past January. My son was at Times Square and it was "lifted" off his arm. The camera bag, extra rechargeable batteries, charger were also taken. My homeowners requested an estimate of what it would cost to replace all items, they paid my claim, less my deductible. My insurance premiums did not go up due to this claim.

I have mine specifically covered in Homeowners Insurance (Valuable items) and ensured that the policy is new for old. I did use it once - I dropped my beloved Canon EOS600 and 28-135 lens down the stairs one night at home (was unbelievably upset - was getting ready to go on holiday!!!) and they were very prompt with sorting it (quite sympathetic actually) - just needed a quote from a local camera shop for the replacement value

Since I am a profesisonal photographer, I took out a separate policy on my equipment. My equipment is valued at $35,000. My personal camera and lenses are valued at under $5,000 so I put my personal camera under my homeowners policy. It added $75 to my homeowners insurance fee.

My professional equipment is insured under my business insurance policy.

Guess I will have to talk to my insurance agent again. That is what he told me and looks like he told me wrong.

Thanks for the info!!!
