I need a good camera for $300 and under. I love taking pic but need something that will give me really nice pics.

Please help

That is just a wee too bit vague! Give us some of the things you are looking for. For example, big zoom, certain battery type, small size, etc.

I would like a small size, but to tell you the truth, I dont know. I want something fairly easy to use.

My camera now is old. Its a Nikon coolpix 4600. I hate the lag time between pic. and want something with a shorter time. I dont think the pics come out clear and want something that has really clear life like pics and does a better job at taking pic of moving images. (if you breath with this one the pic it terrible)

Thanks!

If you are really concerned about shutter lag consider getting an entry level dSLR. You can still use Auto mode when you first start, then you can grow into the camera.

You might want to take a look at some of the Canon PowerShots with image stabalization(IS).

We still have a 4600. DH uses it. It takes nice pictures but it is SLOW- he loves it and won't give it up. He takes mostly hiking pictures so slow doesn't bother him much. We have a Canon A560 that is MUCH quicker- its been replaced with the A590IS which is also nice and under $130. To get something a little nicer try the Coolpix P80 or the Canon SX110IS. 2 friends have the Canon- both love it. Another friend has the A590.
Maybe you could go to a camera store and try them out.
The A590 has a viewfinder, the SX110 doesn't but does have a huge screen. Not sure about the P80.

I would put my money on a Canon Power Shot. Not being a pro I love my SD800IS from a few years ago and take it everywhere. It's easy to use, small, and takes nice pictures. I lost my original Canon and loved it so much I bought this one as a replacement. I think it's around $200 now on sale. I had a Nikon before I bought the Canon because I thought it was a better buy. I returned it 2 days later because it was too slow. Check out a few camera stores online or stop in your local camera store if you want specific advice to get exactly what you need. :) Good luck!

I just got my daughter a Canon G10. It's not the smallest, but for a point and shoot, its really a nice camera.

It has a nice lens, IS, short shutter lag, and takes great pics. It also makes it very easy to do some things like exposure compensation and ISO changes.

The thing is built like a tank, with a metal body.

Basically, if you aren't happy with the Nikon's pics, you will probably be disappointed with the other P & S cameras as well.

I would go to a camera store that sells this camera and check it out. When my daughter first got it, she was bummed because it isn't a cute/cool camera like the ones with Ashton Kutcher in the ads. So I said, "fine, lets take it back to the camera store and you can pick one you like." After she had a chance to play with all the cameras there, she realized how this one really takes better pictures, and she ended up keeping that one. Now she loves taking photos with her G10.

Regards,

Boris

I highly recommend the Fuji F100fd. It is currently on sale at many internet sites with a $100 dollar rebate making it below $200. 12mp, 5x zoom, face recognition and you can set the ISO up to 12800! My wife has the 50fd and loves it. It also takes short videos with sound. It has a cool setting where it will take a picture with and without a flash and let you pic the one you like.

I really like this camera.
