does anyone know how much it costs to get your film developed on board ship

When I asked this a couple months ago, I was told $13 for a 24 roll. You also get a pin & picture of the ship with this. I decided to get a digital camera that I found on sale instead.

It ran me about $10.00 for a roll of 24 this past cruise. You still get a picture (there was a choice of 3 shots) but alas, no more pins!

I have all my developing done there so that by Friday night, I have made my "memory" album up and if I've missed any shots, I can retake them!

it seem safer to have them developed than risk having them ruined by airport x-rays

My Mom didn't want to pay that much, so she decided to mail hers away since it was so much cheaper.

They were lost.

I think I'd rather pay the money and have that "instant gratification"!

We just did this with the 2 underwater cameras we had on the Western.

It's 40 cents a print, and they throw in a nice matching print of the ship with each roll. They use Kodak royal gold process. Film is a 24 hour service, drop it off one day pick it up the next. Prints are 4 x 6.

Dear Rae,

So this is what I can discern about you from these boards:

You like diamonds,
You like champagne,
You are into instant gratification.

Are you my wife?

Jim, you forgot the most important thing on Rae's list of favorite things....shrimp!!! :)

FWIW, I had several rolls of film (both underwater and terrestrial) processed the last time we were on the Magic.

I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality, but was pleasantly surprised with the prints!

The quality seemed to be about as good as the local camera store I usually use to process my pictures.

My advice: Don't risk airport x-ray damage - process your film on the ship.

Since our honeymoon, we have learned the joy and safety of getting your film developed on vacation.

We almost always use a one-hour/one-day developing place that does NOT send the film out. This minimizes the risk of losing the film (See Rae's Mom's story).

We almost always then sacrifice the "double print" bonus. But really, who wants a set of our vacation prints? Any spectacular shots or shots with relatives can be duplicated easily.

We also pay about $4 more per roll than we would at home. But if you did even 5 rolls that comes out to only $20 total to avoid the tragedy of lost film, or film damaged by aiport x-rays.

You also gain the ability to see the shots while on vacation, and we often come home with them already in locally purchased albums. Sitting around some spare hours in a hotel room, it is a productive time filler between events. You can show the "peeps" back home the album while you are still on the high of vacation and they are still (feigning, at least) somewhat interested in hearing your vacation stories.

Really! Now we know that I can't be Rieann in diguise or even her twin since Jim left that off the list!!!!!!!

Rae

Our son and his fiance live in Indy, so when we get back to the Indy airport - we try to meet up with them so we can take them out to eat and talk/show our trip (called a "captive audience" - you want the meal, you listen to the trip and oogle our pictures!)

Rae

Keep in mind that onboard film purchases and processing charges must be declared as part of your customs allowance.

Rae,

You could be Rieann's twin!

Her favorite style of shrimp: Cooked in coconut.

Mine: Steamed and peeled by me.

(I was going to say self-peeled, but BD would be back with "I never knew shrimp could peel themselves!")

Jim

PS: You would be proud of Rieann's shopping prowess. I've seen her talk shopkeepers into opening up their stores early just for her, and they were never sorry.

I like shrimp anyway I can get it!

Yes, BD would have said that!!! My DH likes crab but always, and I do mean ALWAYS asks me to peel it - must be because I'm so adept at the shrimp!

Rieann - I bow to your glory as the Shopping Queen! WOW!
