My wife started having contractions last Tuesday and has been hospitalized since. She is at 30 weeks and 5 days and we're hoping she can make it to week 34. We're posting updates occasionally on our trip report thread if you're interested in following along.

Congratulations! Wow, they're almost here:dance3:Very exciting news. Give them a hug for us:cloud9:
Thank you for taking time out from your baby watch to keep us posted.

I'll keep you all in my prayers and trust that the kids will be born healthy and happy and that mom will do great as well!

That's funny. :dogdance: :cat:

I thought this thread was a neat idea and figured I'll take some pictures of my camera bag (especially since it's mentioned here - the 6MH). But first, I have to get all the dog hairs off of it! It somehow wound up in the backseat with my dog this weekend and it is completely covered! :rotfl:
:rotfl2:
I was thinking the same thing. Both of my Domke bags are black. Einstein is mainly white sooo there's hair all over both. Not a pretty picture. Lovin those furbabies!

I travel a lot alone with my kids so I need to carry more than just camera equipment. I didn't get a dSLR until they were all well out of diapers in fact I just took my first and only trip with a dSLR.

I have a Nikon D90, 18-200VR lens, and 35mm lens. I used a bag I had for my old film SLR for the camera with the 18-200 attached and got a small lens bag for the 35mm. Most of the time the camera was around my neck and the 35mm was in its case inside the camera bag. That camera bag was in a backpack with rain gear, snacks, autograph book, water....

Here's a bag similar to what I have:
http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Cirru...r_1_25?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1238014577&sr=1-25

My bag has a mesh pocket on the inside of the top lid so I could put my remote, extra battery, and memory sticks in there.

Well thanks for rubbing it in!! ;) I'm not a big blue fan, so maybe it's better that I ended up with boring black. On the other hand, I have 6 cats and 2 dogs and everything that I do have that's black...looks like it is covered in fuzz/dirt/dust/animal drool after only a couple of uses. We'll see!! :goodvibes

I do like basic black, I wear it a lot. But when it comes to my camera bag and carryons I want something different.

Five years ago after landing at the airport after a Disney cruise and vacation, the last anyone ever saw of our black camera bag was on the luggage cart being wheeled through the airport. We figure it was either swiped from there, or we left it in the hotel shuttle bus which had a black interior. We lost two cameras, our video camera and most of our pictures.:sad2:

On Friday I'll be going through the airport with my purple and orange Crumpler and my hot pink messenger bag with lime green lining.:goodvibes If anyone wants to take either bag, they'll have second thoughts because they won't be able to just blend in like everyone else. And I'll notice right away if it's missing.

As for my furbaby, I have a favorite pair of black pants that must have Teflon in them. The fur just seems to fall off and not stick. And pugs shed a lot!

At first, I thought you were kidding---and I just realized you weren't when I googled "Teflon pants" :rotfl: There goes my idea of inventing non-stick pants for all the fur our golden retriever sheds. My dreams just went out the window! :sad1:

I agree about the brightly colored bags. This is my normal carry-on. I have one in black and one in green. I use the black mostly for our overnight trips that we drive to, and the green usually goes with me on the plane. Our normal checked luggage is black---but that just carries the clothes and shampoo, so who cares, right?? :lmao: ;)

Groucho, thanks for the photos and the explanations! I also have a Tamrac bag that's about 15 yrs. old (I'll post a photo latter) it's a model #709. Appears to be a little bigger than the bag you own and it's a bit boxy to carry at WDW. Mine has a belt-pack system included, but it's not something you would really want to use.
No belt-pack on mine, but it does have the "patented Lens Bridge system" and "Pop-Off film pocket!" :) Mine is the model 603, FWIW. It looks like they actually still make it, too; there have been some minor updates but by and large, the same bag.

And Groucho, yours looks "lived in"!

Love it! :rotfl2:
That bag has had some hard livin'! :lmao: Especially lately. One thing that I don't like so much is that the bottom is not as stiff as I'd like, so when it gets really loaded (like at WDW!), sometimes the bottom can droop in the middle a little. Really not a big deal, but a minor annoyance.

The bigger problem is that my new 16-50mm F2.8 is really pushing what it can deal with! It's a wide lens (77mm filters! plus a big lens hood) and it is tight squeezing it in there. I can make do but it's definitely on the limit!

So they really make Teflon pants?!:lmao: Honestly, his fur just doesn't stick to them, I'll have to check and see what they're made of. They also don't hold wrinkles.

Back on topic, I'm anxious to try my Crumpler out at WDW. Now with rumors of free dining, maybe it'll happen this year! I'll consider it if they offer it in Nov. and Dec. again.

Here's mine, it's still around from the old film days and it worked okay for my old system. However, the 50D with 17-55 2.8 IS doesn't leave a whole lot of room in the bag. Plus it's bulky and heavy. The original design allowed for two bodies, a number of lenses and accessories. In addition, it had straps hanging on the bottom to attach a tripod to and a bottom (basement) compartment, for books, etc. The bag just doesn't work for me anymore, hence the search for a new one. :)

Here are some photos, the bag is quite old, so please excuse it's appearance.

I'm one of those people. I'll see what I can do about getting a picture for you tomorrow... I don't, as a rule, take pictures of my camera bag fully loaded - I'll have to pull out the p&s!

if i just import my photos into lightroom (instead of downloading to my hard drive via my downloader then importing to lightroom) will my files only be in my lightroom catalog and not in folders in My Pictures? am i actually just duplicating my files by having the downloaded into My Pictures then importing them into lightroom catalog? trying to figure out what is the most space efficient way to download stuff.
do you personally import all your photos into lightroom or just as ones you want to convert. i have tried both ways and it's kind of a pain to just pick one or two and import but then again am i just wasting my hard drive space by importing them all?

Well.... I've been lurking to see what everyone has. Ah..the search for the "perfect bag".
My gear= Nikon D80, 50, 18-135, 70-300
Future gear= (Groucho's ;)) fisheye, WA 2.8

I have a Lowepro micro-trekker to shlep all my gear to where I'm going which works for me http://products.lowepro.com/product/Micro-Trekker-200,1963,14.htm
and then a toploader for daily use http://products.lowepro.com/product/Toploader-75 AW,2058.htm

This is fine for me and my Disney trips, local USA...but... I'll be in Europe in late April/ all May and have a real concern about safety and more room for stuff. I'm looking for something more secure, maybe pc compatible (for my papers/nikon books..not pc) and hopefully not humongous...

Tried out the fastpack 250 yesterday...its almost bigger than me !!:rotfl: The flipside looks good..but no room for Xtra stuff...Hummmm:rolleyes1
The search goes on...

Maybe I don't need all my gear??:headache:

Well, you have to have them on your hard drive(or EHD) somewhere or they are just copies of thumbnails. LR downloads them to your hard drive if you import from it, it just depends on what option you choose. You tell it where to put the pics. There are two options, "make a copy of catalog" and "catalog pictures from where they are." The first makes a duplicate copy of all your stuff and puts it in a second folder in the same spot as your originals (and makes a freaking huge mess of things if you already have a system IMO.) The second just makes thumbnails of your pics right where they are so there's only one copy of your pictures. For space I keep all my pics on a small portable EHD and backed to a bigger one (and burn disks monthly.) I personally see no reason to double the catalog like LR does if you let it do it's own thing.

Thanks for posting! How do you like the toploader? That's bag is on my short list for an upcoming trip to Disney. Do you ever use the chest harness? Is it practical (not too worried about stylish :) )?

Also, have you considered buying a belt system with additional pouches to compliment your toploader? They're not the most inconspicuous things out there, but from what I understand they are super comfortable and keep your gear readily accessible.

I like the TL and the hands free aspect when using the chest harness, AW cover and the 50 fits along with the tele too.
Haven't thought about the belt..Hummmm:goodvibes

I've tried a few bags and I just bought this Crumpler backpack a couple of months ago and used it on our recent trip to France to also carry my laptop, but I don't like it: http://www.adorama.com/CLCUBBROA.html.

I keep coming back to this inexpensive Canon backpack that I really like

The one thing I don't like about it is that it screams "camera bag."

Augghhh....I wish that I had seen this post last week. I just installed lightroom and imported my pictures from "My Pictures". It made another copy of all of them in My pictures in a folder structure according to the date the photos were taken. I kept running out of diskspace and needing to delete the originals (which are backed up on an EHD) so that it could finish it's imports. I had to do this several times. Now My Pictures is structured according to lightrooms default picture structure.

I like that Canon bag; how many lenses can you normally fit in there?

someday i'll get another external drive, right now the one i have is packed full so i have to use my hard drive
