A VEST....

nothing works better for an all day outing,

even weight distribution, everything held close to the body where it's safe,

I'll second the lowepro slingshot... I have the 200 and it is fantastic.... I also have the mini treker that I use for when I want to carry everything I own, but it gets very heavy to carry around all the time....

I have a combo laptop and photo gear backpack (something barge I think). It's well made, heavy duty and works well for travel. I do use a smaller bag walking around. I also have a small pouch for a point and shot. Also heavy duty and well made.

I have the Micro Trekker 100 and what you're planning to take "should" fit in there; however, I find the front pouch to be a little small. I do like the backpacks, though. My Mini Trekker is what I use when I want to take a couple camera bodies, multiple lenses, flash, etc . . .

Of course, you could always do what I do and get someone to be your "assistant" and carry the bag for you! My husband usually gets roped in to doing that for me! :lmao:

Well, I've got a Crumpler bag, a Canon backpack, and a beltpack from LowePro.

They all have their benefits. I use the backpack to transport my gear (eg through the airport). And I use the other two while out and about. I don't like to change lenses too much while on the go.

I've found that the Crumpler bag (a smaller one, it only holds camera with one lens on) works well for many situations, but I don't like the way it swings around while I'm walking or pushing a wheelchair.

The waistpack is great for pushing around a wheelchair and carrying a bag. The Lowepro bag opens away from you, so the flap doesn't interfere with access to the camera. I can also add one lens with a Lowepro lens bag if I need to. My kids think it's nerdy, but hey, I'm a camera geek. Besides, they don't complain when they get to see the great shots later on.

Backpack is a pain to lug around the park. If you have lots of time and are set on just doing photography, and want all your stuff along, it's fine. But if you are going on rides, it gets in the way.

I haven't yet found a great way to carry the monopod. I do keep a small pocket size tripod in the bags (one of the 5 inch long Eddie Bauer ones).

Regards,

Boris

I have four different "bags" and use all of them at different times. I have a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW, a Lowepro Magnum AW, a Pelican 1520 Case, and a Lowepro S&F Vest Harness and Deluxe Waistbelt.

When I'm carrying gear a long distance, I love the Mini Trekker. It's a comfortable backpack that's great for carrying gear. The problem with a backpack is that it's a pain to get gear in and out. I either need an assistant or I have to take it off first. Still, if I want to haul a lot of gear a long way, it's my first choice.

MagnumAW_rt_stuffed_n.jpg

When I want to carry a lot of gear a fairly short distance and plan to be in and out of my bag a lot, I use the Magnum. It's a large shoulder bag. I lug it to my shoot location, set it on the ground, open it up, and work from it. It's not comfortable for long distances, but it's bearable. I like the form factor when I need to get in and out of it a lot.

When I'm going places that could be troublesome, I use the Pelican case. It's great for when we are canoeing because it's waterproof. I also use it for travel because I can lock it and lock it to things. If I'm going to be leaving camera gear in a hotel room or car, I use this case. The downside is that it is terrible for carrying. I sometimes use it as a "safe" place for gear and switch gear into other solutions when shooting.

When I want to carry minimal gear, I just use the Deluxe belt. I carry my camera on the hand strap and/or neck strap and carry and extra lens in one pouch on the belt and stuff (filters, memory, etc) in another pouch. When I need more gear, I throw on the vest and add more pods. If you don't mind looking rediculous, you can carry a lot gear this way and have it all accessible. It's not nearly as comfortable as the backpack, but it's much more accessible.

I once had a fanny pack like the one above. I really liked it because it was comfortable to carry and I could rotate it around and work out of it. Sadly, it was stolen. It wouldn't hold my current gear well, so I didn't replace it. If I was only going to use a basic SLR and one or two reasonable size lenses, I'd consider another one. I suppose that it also depends on how much room you have for a pack on your fanny. It's not the sort of thing that fits every photographer body style.

Thanks for all the replies, great info all around. I'm still considering which way to go. I think it's time for a trip to the bag store for some hands on!

Anyone like or love the movie CD they had made from Photopass? Thinking about it but not sure it would be worth the cost.

What do you think of yours?

Are you willing to post it here to let fellow Dis'ers get a good idea of how long it runs, what the backgrounds look like, how the photos are edited??

I didn't buy one but I just did a chapter to see what it was like. It looks nice except for one very important point - all the frames for your photos are horizontal but the PhotoPass people take mostly vertical photos so you will either have to crop them or use mostly your own photos by uploading them to the site. If it is free, it is definitely worth it and if you use the PhotoPass photographers, have them take shots that are horizontal (landscape orientation) as well as vertical (portrait).

do you mean you will get one free with an upcoming package?

We leave in 29 days, and I just our paperwork in the other day. On the page that lists everything you get: hotel, park hoppers, DDP, $15 Planet Hollywood voucher, etc.. It listed the Photopass Movie. I did not even know we were getting it, and I thought I had done all my homework!! I am very happy to get one free!!

so you booked directly with Disney. (the $15 Planet Hollywood voucher is something they offer at times). Great for you to get the movie included.

I bought the Photpass DVD from my trip with my DN. I thought it was pretty nice, you can add some or all of your own pictures too, it doesn't *HAVE* to be all photopass pictures. The effects were pretty fun, but some people could probably make their own DVD set to music that would be better. You are limited to the number of pictures you can put in, and some chapters will not let you put as many pictures as others. I'm glad I bought one, but I won't be buying another one unless they work out the kinks. They repeat the same effects and music if you choose to do a park twice as well. I wanted to put in as many as I could, and they allow up to 6 or 7 chapters I think, so you basically have to repeat a park at least once. I believe I did MK and MGM twice, then had Epcot and AK once and I did the hotels and extra since we did stay at Pop and ate at Chef Mickeys. If it's free, definitely take it! It is worth that much, but I paid a lot for it and at that point the CDN dollar was a lot worse too!

I do enjoy putting it on and watching it occasionally.

thank you for the info.

How many minutes long does it run with the photos you selected? Do you know how many photos you slected for the moive all together?

thanks again

HELP!!! I pre-ordered a PhotoCD through Disney's PhotoPass. Well, after I took our first picture, the photographer told us that our family/friends can also view our pics. I gave my friend our info and they had been viewing our pics daily. Well, I went on to the photopass website and found out that once a photopass id has been claimed on one account, it can't be claimed again. Has this ever happend to anyone else? Do you know what I can do, or do you know if I can use my promotion code emailed to me by photopass on my friends login? PLEASE HELP ME!!! I emailed photopass, but it takes up to 5 days for a response and we have over 400 pictures to check and edit! Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

I called Disney's PhotoPass and left a voicemail . . . cross your fingers someone gets back to me and my problem can be fixed! :)

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Did you give them your card number, and THEY made an account?

Re-reading, that's what it sounds like you did. Yikes!

However, I've heard several times that people have been able to "move" their card number from one account to the other, in the threads about photopass sharing. One person accidentally does something, and puts their card on one account and needs it on another.

Actually, I'm *hoping* that it's an easy thing, as I have an email out to photopass for the same sort of thing, because I re-used a card (which is normally OK), but that card had been used in September in a share and is on that other account. Since I found photopass to be such a great value, I decided to pay the full amount this time, but goofed with the card re-use.

So I hope for both our sakes they can still do this easily!

I don't think I have ONE friend who would want to see our Disney pictures, photopass or not. I'm the only Disney fan in the bunch!
