Are you referring to something like this?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/143291-REG/Op_Tech_USA_7001042_SLR_AF_Zoom_Soft.html
If yes, do you just then put the entire thing in regular bag/backpack you carry? Or do you attach it to yourself somehow?
The idea of traveling light but keeping the camera & extra lens safe is an option that sounds good too.
Thanks again. Seeing as i do not have the camera yet it is difficult to tell
exactly what it would fit in based solely on dimensions of some products.
Anyone else have ideas for me or expand on these already given?
Yes. Except the one I use specifies for DSLR up to 300mm lens. I used to carry it by the camera strap that the camera came with. Then I upgraded and got the Optech pro camera strap. It's waaayyy more comfortable. I am a larger chested woman, and I wear my camera in this pouch strapped sideways across my shoulder to my hip. Then when I want to use the camera I simply spin it around to the front and there it is. I tried the Lowepro slingshot and imo it's just too heavy w/ all my gear in it to wear all day long. I have back issues and I need to go as light as possible. I've never had an issue with my camera in the optech pouch. Just don't drop it and it should be fine. If you're constantly wearing it, there is little chance of dropping it. The pouch basically protects the camera from bumps, bruises and dings. No one else wants to give me a hand in lugging the camera stuff around, so this is what I do so I can live with it comfortably and still be able to carry a camcorder and tripod. The optech camera strap really helps to disperse the weight of the camera. I wear my camera at all times, even when on rides. I simply hold on to the camera with my hand in addition to wearing it if I am on a violent ride.
Of course, I have 2 smaller camera bags (one is a lowepro and the other is a kata) that I use to carry the camera equipment on board the airplane, which I then put inside a large rolling backpack.
This is the Kata bag that I used to use to carry my stuff in and that I only use now to transport stuff in. http://www.amazon.com/Kata-H-14-GDC...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1217754195&sr=8-4 It holds a lot. Kata bags are made extremely well, but they are heavy to lug around the parks 12+ hours a day. This bag holds my Nikon D80, 18-200VR lens, 50mm1.8, SB800 and 70-300VR lens, along with extra memory cards, cleaning cloth, and batteries for camera and flash. It is a tight fit when zipping up the 70-300VR on one side and the Sb800 on the other side. But the bag is made so well padded, I don't worry about the gear at all. I've even managed to stick my 10-20mmSigma in the bag on top of my camera.

I say, get something you will be comfortable carrying around all day and something else to safely transport your stuff in, because the reality is, if it's made really well to protect your lenses, it's going to be too heavy for the average woman to want to lug around all day/night by herself. If it's too heavy, you will not want to lug it around. Then add to that the tripod for Fireworks, camcorder, etc. It can be a pain. Literally. Good luck!
