Camelot Inn or Fairfield Inn

Ok, I'm still in the planning stages. Thought that we were definately going to stay at DLH but I keep thinking that if we conserve on the room (which will hardly be in) that will leave more money to spend on all the food goodies they will have in December plus any other extra treats we want to bring home. But now I'm looking at Fairfield Inn which appears to be really close walking distance and Camelot Inn which also appears to be close. It looks like these are both still closer than HOJO. So in regards to proximity of the parks and quality of the rooms which would be your choice? I've looked at pictures and they both look really nice. So please give me your opinions of these two locations.

Camelot is slightly closer than Fairfield. IMHO, Fairfield has nicer rooms.

HOWEVER, Camelot has a free breakfast, which would be a selling point for me! You'll save a lot of money if you can grab something FREE to eat every morning.

Fairfield and HOJO are right next to each other with a restaurant in between their parking lots. We stayed at HOJO last May and Fairfield last weekend. Between the two of those, I would choose HOJO. Our room (at the Fairfield) had peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, a whistling/hissing front door that would not shut tightly, and beds that were not as comfy as HOJO. I don't have any input on the Camelot, but it is a little closer to the main crosswalk across Harbor Blvd.

The Camelot Inn is very clean, although it isn't fancy.

The complimentary breakfast has generic cereal, whole milk, good orange juice, some fruit, cheap pastries, decent coffee, etc., and you can get a tray and bring food back to your room.

I haven't stayed at the Fairfield Inn, but you'll hear good things about it on this forum. The Fairfield Inn has free wireless internet access, while the Camelot Inn charges $10 for internet access (per 24 hours).

I think both places are pretty comparable, and I would pick the one that had the cheaper rate. I would also look into the Entertainment Rate for the Howard Johnson.

Hi, this is the 2nd time that I've seen you post this and I was wondering if you asked them to make it right and put you in a better room? I'm sorry if your stay at FFI sucked, but we stayed at FFI in June and we had a wonderful experience. I stayed there after reading this board and seeing how many others have stayed there and enjoyed the experience. We did not experience anything at all like what you experienced. Our room was spotless and we felt the beds were more comfortable than Hojo. Normally I have to bring my own Tempurpedic pillow and sleep with a cervical collar, but I forgot my pillow in June when we stayed at FFI, and I was fine. No neck ache or back ache, etc. I once forgot to take my pillow to Hojos and had a kink in my neck the whole trip. I just couldn't get comfortable without my pillow and the extra support it offered. At Hojos, DH and I have to wrestle each other for the extra pillows because we both need the support. We only stay in their Premium rooms with the upgraded bedding.
My entire family felt that it was so worth it to stay at FFI just because the walk was about 500 feet less than the walk to Hojo. That adds up at the end of the night and after a long stay. We had a great stay at FFI and we paid for the cheapest, run of the house rooms they had. We've also stayed at Hojo, and except for the longer walk which adds up at the end of a long day, we enjoyed it there too. We would stay at either -- whichever is cheapest. A picture is worth a 1000 words. I would have taken photos and sent it Marriott if addressing it on site accomplished nothing. (Again, I don't know if you brought it up to them or not.) I'm just very surprised that your room was in such poor condition and that they would still rent it that way and not address it or make it right. They seemed every bit as customer service oriented as the people at Hojos when we stayed there.
Different strokes for different folks I guess...

I was surprised at the issues in the room, but no, we did not ask them to make it right, as we were only in the room from midnight-8am and the hotel was quite full. I just think it's fair and balanced to present how OUR stay was. And you're right, I should send a letter to corporate.

There are plenty of hotels in/around Disneyland for everyone to find a good fit and be happy.

Yes it's fair and balanced to present how your stay was, absolutely. Sorry if I misunderstood, but it seemed like you really didn't enjoy your stay there.
I think one of the advantages to staying at a major chain hotel/motel is the fact that even if the people on site disregard your complaints, you'll have an opportunity to follow up with Corporate and hopefully they will make it right. Some of the smaller, privately owned/operated motels on Harbor can be really bad (i.e. Roach motel-ish), and they don't care to make anything right because they know they'll be busy all year long due to their proximity to DLR.

Never been to FFI, Stayed at the Camelot in 05,pretty nice. Loved the 4th floor pool,great place to watch the fireworks and enjoy a cold one after an 8hr drive. The 'free' breakfast is a bare minimum day starter. There is a Mickey Ds right next door,if you like that kind of thing.

We have stayed at both and both are good choices. Actually I prefer either of these over HOJO anyday!! Camelot is a little older but I found my room to be much cleaner than my hojo room was. FFI was nice. I liked grabbing a drink of lemon water on our way to the parks. The room was clean and decent. Everything you need...just no frills.

We stayed at Camelot Inn & Suites last year and found the distance from Disneyland ideal, however I hated the beds, they were rock hard and had a type of plastic undersheet which caused the top sheet to slide and bunch up under you, leaving you sleeping on lumps. It doesn't sound like much but if you can't sleep well, then you have a lousy day in front of you. Especially when you have just come from a 15 hour flight, jumping time zones.
It had to be the worst bed I have ever slept in and I travel a lot. Other than that the room was fine.

The breakfast was a token offering, probably ok if you have kids but don't expect anything to write home about.

Would I stay there again - Nope!

Hi! We stayed at the Camelot 2 years ago and are going to stay again this fall. We had a family suite (which was huge). The decorating is not really my taste, but the carpets were fresh. We had a 4th floor room and could see the fireworks from our room. We were treated very well. The breakfast was nothing spectacular....cereals, fruit, muffins, etc. but served us just fine. We would grab a couple of things to go and wait in line at the gate. The walk was really short in our opinion. We are staying here again!
