Came home with pic of REAL ghost from Mansion!

Gilesdad --

The orbs you caught on camera are very similar to the sort of orbs people photograph and hold up as ghost photos. It's very cool. There are many stories of ghosts in the Magic Kingdom, and like a previous poster said some of them are said to be at the HM. I don't know if I believe any of that, but it sure is fun to think about! I have caught some photos like yours before (not at Disney though!) and I believe you didn't fake it. I don't know what it is! Photoshop or another program can be used to fake a ghost photo, and Robo's photo really doesn't look real at all (but it's so cute!).

Very cool photo! Something to hang on to and show off! :goodvibes

ARG!!! This is going to drive me crazy! I JUST read an article on these 'orbs' and how many people think they are 'ghosts', but they are really something that happens with light refraction on the lens, or something along those lines.

It's driving me buggy that I can't remember where I read it! (It was on line somewhere, and I just read it a week or two ago). If we have any professional photographers, do they know what causes it? I'm pulling my hair out trying to remember the exact reason.

Still, no matter what it is, it's amazingly cool that it landed right where the driver would be. That's a pretty special picture, no matter what caused it!

okay i'm going to have to debunk the magic to ease some of the panic.

What you caught is a prime example of lens flair. your camera capture light refracting off an object and hits the lens of the camera in an angle just right that it causes a burst of light. it appears that it is the reigns of the carrage. It's such a common thing that in movies that rely heavily on digital effects such as the new star wars prequels they have to manual add in the lens flair (which is an inherent error in the design of cameras) to make it look belivable. funny how they have to take a non natural thing and add it in to make it look natural.

and in regards to the ghost mickey. He simply just used a basic photo editiing program and copied the original flair and pasted it twice where he wanted it to go. It's really simple if you know what you are doing and have the appropriate program.

ps. i'm had training in this stuff so i'm getting my info from experience.

and for a so called projector effect to work you have to have something to project an image on.

Thanks for the info Mecha....
I figured it was something to do with the way the light hit the camera or reflected. That's why I posted the sky conditions and time of day that the photo was taken. If you can hit the right angle maybe the shot can be duplicated? Or is this just a fluke? As I look at the original photo I notice that the seat is in bright sunlight and the wagon area is shadowed. So it makes sense that the sun was hitting that certain spot at just the right angle. And now that you've explained it I see how the Hidden Mickey orb was done. I wondered how it looked so similar. It's the same photo with cloned orbs. Kind of cool too! Neat trick.
Merry Christmas everyone!
:wave2:

Thank you thank you thank you, Mecha Figment! I can sleep soundly tonight. It was truly driving me nuts not remembering the details of how it worked.

Fascinating stuff, though. The amazing part is that it fit so perfectly where the driver would be. I still say that's Disney magic at work! ;)
