and it was awesome! It was my first trip out of 35 to Florida without going to WDW for a week...and to be honest, I didn't miss WDW at all! We are going back next July for another week to USF and IOA and we can't wait! We are skipping WDW again as well, but will go back to WDW when the new Ariel ride opens.

Thanks all for the info that you have posted about USF that made us want to give it a try!

Its great you had a great time and while we like disney too we don't miss it when we go to Universal and now we prefer Universal and is a must do when we go to Orlando :thumbsup2

For fear of getting burned by hard core disney fans we as a family much prefer the universal side of orlando, granted our kids are 17girl and 14 boy and all of us prefer the extreme rides that US has to offer(even dear wife who at 46 rode her first outdoor roller coaster kraken and this year finally rode duelling dragons, next time she wants to ride shikra at busch gardens!!!!!)We all agreed that if you could lump seven or eight rides of disney in one park it would be worth going, but on the plus side for disney their water parks are better by miles

For us the age of our children definitely make a difference in where we go. We just decided today that we would change our trip and go to Universal and only 1 day at Magic Kingdom. Our oldest will be turning 9 during the trip and is tall enough for most of the rides. She is a speed junkie. I am a little nervous about the change. I am so use to everything Disney. It has been years since we have been able to go to Universal. I am depending on this part of the forum to teaching me everything Universal.

Glad you had such a great trip! We used to go to WDW every chance we possibly could. I had wanted to try UO and IoA for a long time, but we just never could break away from WDW. We finally went for the first time in January. We are now addicted to Universal! We love it and plan to go twice in 2009.

Toy, you'll find all kinds of cool things in the trip reports. You might also want to get Kelly Monaghan's book Universal Orlando. Lots of detail to help you plan. After Disney trips, Universal takes much less planning and much less stress beforehand. And if you don't want to go on the thrill rides with the kids, there are plenty of other things to enjoy. But some of the thrill rides have awesome theming, so you might want to try them just for that.
