Camcorders/Video Camera suggestions?

We have a older model video camera, it goes onto a tape which then you put in a VHS case and play it via your VHS player.
I find I do not use it much since it is so outdated and would love to take more video's of my kids so I am looking for suggestions if anyone has a newer model that they use and like

We bought a Sony last year and love it! I don't know what model it is off the top of my head but it has a hard drive in it so no tapes and it is super tiny. You just record away then we plug it in to our laptop and burn the videos onto DVD. WE have been very happy with it - I think it was less than $500. I bought it on Amazon.
