Camcorder recommendations and advice needed please

I am debating buying a new camcorder but I am undecided about whether to buy a SD card based camcorder, a hard drive based camcorder or one which does both. I am only looking for a cheap end camcorder - not necessarily high definition. I have been looking at Canon and JVC models but can not decide. Can anyone recommend a camera or advise me on this.
