May be a silly question but.. what do i do with my camcorder/camera if we go on water rides in the parks and if i take it to a waterpark to film the kids what can i do with it so i can go on the slides????

The answer may be obvious but i really don't know...never been!

HELP

Thanx sharon :flower1:

They do have lockers at all parks you could put it in,but they might be quite a walk away.
We found the same problem last visit so didn't really take any pictures in the waterparks. For our next visit we have just got a waterproof camera so hopefully we might get a few more.

I'm not sure if we will be able to take it down some of the slides with us though.any idears?

what we did was put the camcorder under the towels on the sun bed in the water parks!! I know this is risky, but it has never been pinched yet!

On the Kali rapids ride there is a central storage area in the rafts that you can put stuff in to keep dry (ish)!
Get a decent camera/cancorder bag that offers at least some splash proofing.

You can also get large ziplock plastic bags that you could slip your camera into while on wet rides.

At the water parks put you camera in the lockers and get some disposable waterproof cameras - then you can take some great action shots in the water :)

As for leaving gear on the sunbed, we use a Pacsafe (see www.pac-safe.com) which is a lockable wire mesh cover for your rucksack or holdall. We put this under a towel so it doesn't look obvious and loop this to the sunbed. Unless a thief has wirecutters, he'd have to run off with the sunbed as well if he wanted to take your gear. We've used this for years now and it's more than paid for itself and it gives a lot of peace of mind, not to mention not having to walk to and queue for the lockers. Paying for lockers is dead money, but at least this has lots of different uses. You can get them from most outdoor shops and all over the internet. They're usually cheaper on ebay, but I'd recommend the extra-small size, as that's big enough for all day packs.

If you plan on taking a lot of pics in the water, I'd recommend buying a waterproof 35mm compact. We used a Canon A1 last time in Orlando and took over 200 pictures in the waterparks and on the rides. The quality of the pictures is much higher than the disposables, it has a flash and you can use higher speed film which is important when you're whizzing down the family raft ride. I wish we'd had it the first time, instead of the disposables. Again, this pays for itself over time.

brigadoon, thanks for the information on the pac safes, what a great idea, i'll be buying one of these.

Netty, I've just checked the web-site and there's obviously been a lot of product development since I bought mine. It looks like the extra-small one is no longer made and the others are too big for a small rucksack. I would go for the Travelsafe 100 or 200 as this is actually a smaller, more discrete lockable wire mesh pouch which you can still loop around a sunbed. I have the 100 and you could fit a small digital camcorder and compact camera, along with wallet and other small stuff. The 200 is big enough for a laptop, so you've got more space there if you need it. I got a new 100 for £12 on ebay and the 200 seems to go for about the same price. It's well worth it, IMHO, especially at the cost of only a few days locker rental.

Thanx soooooo much for all the advice.
We got a new camera bag today with a little waterproof jacket, it sort of unpacks, like a pac a mac, to cover the case, a great idea from jessops.
I love brigadoons mesh safe system and will also look into this.
Thanx for the help Sharon

thanks for that brigadoon! i will get the100 size then, are they cheaper on ebay and are they new.

Hi again. Ebay's definitely cheaper as long as you don't bid too high, taking into account the postage. The 100s went for about £11-£16 when I was watching. The stuff is new and unused, but it's in the old-style cardboard packaging, rather than the new plastic stuff. The safe itself is identical as far as I can see, so the seller obviously has a shed-load of old stock, which was fine by me. Just be sure that you get the right size for your stuff. Happy bidding!
