I am a new member so please forgive the question! :goodvibes

I am calling day to day for VB.

Oct 6th...paying cash. (made that yesterday.

Oct. 7th ...on points. MS wouldn't book it b/c she said that it has to be 7 mos from my check out day. Is that true? I thought it was 7 mos from the night I wanted. She said I can't book Oct 7th till March 8th. ????

If so then how was I able to book Oct. 6th on March 6th for cash???

Thanks for the help!

:thumbsup2

Cash and points are different. She is correct. You book from day of departure so if you are booking for 10/6, you call 3/7.

Good luck!

Cash nights do not come under the same rules as nights booked with points. You don't need to be a DVC member to book with cash.

I know many members call day-by-day, but is it really necessary at Vero for an October stay? We have been members since 1995 and have never felt the need to do it.

For Day by day ressies and a cash day in the middle of it will MS take care of it @25% off rack, true?

I did get 25% off of rack rate. I think an ocean veiw was 146.00???? Something like that.

I am really looking forward to going to this resort! Looks lovely!

Did you or anybody do this for the Fri. + St. (double point) nites of your ressies? Is this a common practice and can MS do this in the middle of your ressie?
Does anybody understand my question? :thumbsup2

You can combine point-nights and cash-nights in any manner you wish. They can be alternated every other night if you so desire.

I think paying cash for Friday and Saturday to conserve points is done quite often. IMHO, it makes more sense in the long run to purchase enough points to cover the weekend nights.

In May I have 2 nights on points 2 nights cash and 1 more night points. This is 3 reservations all linked together.

I Have done two trips as an owner and both I added cash nights to the reservation. BOTH times when I checked in they told me I would have to come to the front desk EVERY changeover day to check out and check back in. The first time I did do this.

The second time I learned from here thats not the way its done. I called MS and asked them directly and they told me if the reservations are linked you do NOT have to check in/out. So the second time they told me I would have to I told them what MS said and what do you know , " oh yes thats right , you'r all set! "

So from now on I'll make sure I'm not spending my vacations at the front desk!

Thanks for the answer, It saved quite a few points/money right? And at the 25% off ...worth doing again. I am going to have to try it when I get IN.;)

Cash reservations may or may not be discounted. The member's discount is subject to availability, so you may be able to make a cash reservation but it may be with or without the discount.

Hi!

This was for a Saturday nite stay. IT is the first day of our ressie though....:goodvibes

Really? This is how I envisioned it calling up MS and making a 1 week reservation if available and saying that for these 2 days (Rri + Sat.) I would like to pay cash. Is it the DVC/AP discount 25%? What am I going to hear on the other end of the phone? popcorn::

It depends on what they have available. If they have the cash nights with the 25% member discount, then you can have it. They may just have the cash nights, but without the member discount offered. They may have no cash availability, and only let you book with points. Or it is possible for the nights to be completely unavailable through member services (i.e. can't be booked with cash or points) in which case I'd suggest you call CRO and see what they may have available.

Also, they may not have the discount available when you book, but it becomes available closer to your dates.

I did a Points/cash/points reservation for this past Feb. When I booked in June, I booked Fri and Sat as cash, but no discount was available. I then called once a month and in October, the discount became available and I got the 25% off for the 2 cash nights.

We are doing the same next Feb, staying points for 4 nights, cash for the W/E and then points for 4 more nights. Again, no discount is available, but I plan on checking again like I did last year, starting in August.

I know someone at MS told me that the discount is not offered until sometime after that year's rates are out. So for my 2008 trip, not until probably August, at least. :)

Great thread thanks for the information!!!!

Just a heads up on this issue: one cannot combine points and cash for Standard view or Boardwalk view villas at BWV. Those can only be reserved using points. If you want to a "combo" ressie there, you can only do that in the preferred category (pool or canal view).
