Okay, we think we'll do a Captain Marvin tour in Grand Cayman since we can schedule that with our toddler (18-months).

We are afraid of booking any excursions without our little guy for fear that we will not be able to get a Flounders ressie. I really wanted to snorkel in Cozmuel...but I guess we can't guarantee an excursion with our ds. What other things can we do in Cozmuel and include our little man?

Thanks!

Amy

I went snorkling at Chakanaab state park in Cozumel. We got off our ship at the International pier and took a taxi to Chakannab for $10.00 for the 3 of us total. It costs $10 to get in the park and it is beautiful. We got 3 nice seats under a tree right next to the dive shop and a waiter kept the beer and snacks coming. Beers were $2.50, very reasonable and chips and salsa was $2.00. They also have a nature path to walk where you can see lots of Iguanas roaming and some replicas of mayan Ruins that I did not have time to see. There were showers and lockers and clean flush toilets. A very comfortable place to be. The reef was looking like it was dying...a bit gray to me, but there were still lots and lots of fish to see. There is also a place to do dolphin swimming and swimming with sea lions. You have to pay extra for these things. A nice place to be for the day and you can snorkle off shore and take turns watching the baby. Melissa

I agree with HLFZDN about Chankannab. When we went Western with our kids last time our youngest was almost 3 and we plopped down on the chairs with shade and he played in the sand while we took turns snorkeling. Your little guy would be free as well. HEre is a link so you can kind of see a pic of it

We had a GREAT time there, stayed as long as we wanted and then grabbed one of the zillion available cabs back to the ship.

For a little one I dont know that I'd do an organized excursion but that's just me. If your little one gets tired you can always leave if you do it on your own where on an excursion you cant. We loved Chankanaab though!

We loved Chankanaab. It has a little sandy beach cove that is perfect for children (shallow and no waves). It was so big that we want to go back again some day to see everything!

We were on a cruise when our DH was 6 months old and went to Chankanaab. It was great -- we got to snorkel there and the lagoon is perfect for small kids. Your little guy might even enjoy watching the dolphins.

My sister and I were wondering if we should go to Chankanaab too. We're interested in a sandy beach and snorkelling. How much is it to rent the snorkelling equipment?

Also, we're going with my 78 year old mother. She's pretty active but no spring chicken. Is there a lot of walking to the beach/snorkelling area? We thought that she might wait in the beach/snorkelling area while we take a look at some of the other sights in the park. Does this sound feasible to those of you who are familiar with Chankanaab?

Thanks for your help!

Send out a call for Coz Minigolf Sally!

She has a thread ("post Cozumel questions here") that has been going for about a year. She is a Coz resident and can probably give you some pointers.

(Sorry, if I knew how to hook up a link, I would. On last check, the thread was on page 4...)

Enjoy!

I have in my notes for Chankanaab that the entrance fee is $10 (kids under 8 are free) and snorkel equipment rental is $8.

The snorkel area and the lagoon are actually two different areas. The lagoon is a small water/sand area and adjacent to it is the snorkel area which is rock/ladder entry.

It's been about 5 years since I was there... I am trying to remember how much walking there was. I remember it was a little bit of a walk over to the dolphin area, but not bad. My DM and DMIL were with us on this trip and I think I would remember if there was too much walking. I remember getting chairs and palapa over near the lagoon. They enjoyed wathing my DS in the water. And then DH and I went over to the snorkel area while the DMs stayed with our DS. I know we weren't far away.

Hope this helps. Sally is an excellent resource and could probably give you more specifics.

Thanks Kim and two4ruff for the information! I'll try Sally and see if she can give me more info.
