We are looking to trade for a week in Palm Springs in July 2007 and would like to stay at one of the Marriott resorts. Would love to hear from anyone who has stayed at either of them.......what was good, bad and ugly(?!!). Does anyone have an opinion as to which one is better? How easy are they to trade into......if I put in a request now am I likely to get July 07?!
Thanks!

I have stayed at Marriott's Desert Springs II last summer. It was very nice, equal in quality to that of Disney. Lots of swimming, golf at the JW Marriott Resort attached to it. There is also Desert Springs I, which is older but closer to the JW Marriott. My wife and I own a week at Marriott's Shadow Ridge and feel this resort is also extremely well-kept and worth the investment. Shadow Ridge is not attached to the JW Marriot Hotel, but has its own golf course, swimming pools and is the newest resort by Marriott in the area. Don't hessitate staying with Marriott at any of these places.

As for trading a week, you might want to look into paying $ for a week if you are going to CA in the summer. It will be REALLY HOT when you are there in July. Cash prices are quite cheap for July and August at any of the Marriott resorts during that time.

If you do want to trade, you should have no problem. PM with any more questions!

Good Luck!

We exchanged into Marriott Desert Springs II last April and liked it very much; we would return there again. Agree w/above poster; the units in DSII are newer. We were in a beautiful 1 BR unit across from the pool and backed to a golf course. The mountains are beautiful. The resort is very well maintained. For additional information, you could also check www.tripadvisors.com or www.tug2.net (although there is a $10 fee to join; well worth it for the info on timeshare ratings and rankings).

Good luck!

Ok, so it looks like a request for phase 2 or Shadow Ridge......how far in advance did you make your request and how long before you got a match? Do you know whether July comes under regular or low season as far as exhange points are concerned?!

It will me be, my husband (golfer) and son aged 5...............if you had to pick, which would you say would suit us better? Does one have nicer units than the other?

Palm Springs is really cheap in July, and also really hot 118 on average when we were there. Cash would be your better option.

Hi~We didn't have to wait for our exchange at the time, because I believe it was when they just added the property. Although we thought Shadow Ridge was pretty, it seemed really out of the way and sort of by itself. I think if all you wanted to do was golf and not leave the resort, that would be fine, but that wasn't our objective. The location of the Desert Springs resort was more convenient for us for shopping and sightseeing. Hope this helps.

I agree with the above posters. Expect it to be really hot at that time. And unless you have to use your points up, cash would be a better option, as cash rates can be very reasonable.
I've stayed at both Desert Springs I and Shadow Ridge. Desert Springs I has the advantage of being next to the Marriott hotel, and a bit more centrally located. I believe Desert Springs I can use the facilities at the hotel for free, but Desert Springs II would have to pay a fee to use those facilities. Shadow Ridge has the advantage of being newer, and having a really terrific pool complex area.

Deb,

I stayed at Desert Springs I about 1 1/2 years ago. Loved it. It is the older of the two sections, but our unit was outstanding. We were right across from the pool, fitness room and check in area. I'm thinking of going back in Sept.

We own at Shadow Ridge. It's very new still (4th year now, I think), and so is still being developed. Our last newsletter did state they just opened up a 3rd pool and new buildings, have made changes to the restaurant, and some other things.

Vegetation is still in a 'young' state being only a few years old, so there's lots of sun.

The resort is situated a little bit further out, but if you have a car that's not really an issue, at least it wasn't for us.

Temperature will be 'hot' but it is definitely drier so doesn't feel the same. I would rather have 105 degrees in the desert than 90 degrees somewhere else with high humidity.

We have put in a request for July 2007, but so far they only have exchanges up to Feb 07, but I'm hopeful! I understand the sense of using cash, but we are combining this week in Palm Springs with time at Disneyland (points) in Las Vegas (cash) and Lake Las Vegas (Cash)......so with the large cost of the flight we thought we'd use the points and its low season so they're reasonable!

At Shadow Ridge.....I read somewhere that they were building 2 new infinity type pools and a kids area.....does anyone know how this is coming along and how much construction there is there?

How many restaurants are there?
