I wanted to touch base with all those who shared their expert advise and tips with me on how to have a successful yard sale.

First, let me start by saying that we chose the hottest weekend of the summer to do this :sad2:! But, we were committed, posted signs and advertised on Craig's list.

Taking into consideration all that was shared: selling bottled water, starting early and on time, pricing everything, hanging all clothing neatly and of course making sure all items were dusted and clean, our yard sale was a total success!!! I made $208.00 BUCKS:cool1: I even received compliments from many customers about how organized, neat and clean our "stuff" was:dance3:. I have to admit though, this was hard work. I was completely exhausted. Thank goodness I had a great friend who helped me out for the entire 2 days!!!

So, to all my disboard buddies out there who helped with sharing their knowledge and great tips, THANKS A BUNCH :flower3: YOU GUYS ROCK:thumbsup2

I am thinking about trying this again in the Fall!!!

Congrats on your $$! We too had a YS this weekend - it was H-O-T!! We only did Saturday - and said as soon as the shade was gone - so were we. We closed up around Noon. I boxed everything up and we are going to give it another go again Sept/Oct. We made $215 - just in time for our long weekend trip to the Columbus Zoo. It was hard work, but totally worth it. Congrats!

Nice going!!! You made practically the same amount but it only took you 1/2 of a day, it took us 2/ 6 hour days! May I ask what items were big sellers and any advice you find important?:dance3:

My DD cleaned out her clothes closet - seems over the summer she has grown both 3 inches - and an opinion! She used to not care what I bought her - she would wear it - now... not so much. She had tops upon tops - Kohl's mostly - some with tags... those we sold for $2-$3 apiece. We made almost 1/2 of our money off of clothes (hers and mine). The rest were just $1-$2 up to $5 - nothing more than that. We were surprised at how the day went - no expectations - but pleasantly surprised. I put a sign at the end of our road - with balloons (from the Dollar Tree)... seemed to gain some attention of those that just might have driven on by. I didn't buy an ad in paper - just Craigslist and a Dollar Tree Garage Sale sign - about 1/4 mile up the road from us in each direction. I made some computer signs for each table with pricing... didn't necessarily price every item.

We have a Disney trip in December - so we'll do one early Fall to see whatelse we can get rid of. Good Luck!
