Calling all Soarin' Buffs!

I am afraid of alot of things especially heights and I enjoyed Soarin. We were in the 3rd row so we were closest to the ground. The only problem I did have was the fact that at some parts it feels like you are going to fall out of the seat.

We traveled to WDW in January with 2 close friends. One was terrified of heights. We went on Soarin (we explained how the ride worked) and wound up sitting in the first row. My friend wouldn't sit on the end and the first time we rode it she held on tight. She loved the ride and we wound up going on Soarin 4 times during our stay.

I think you'll be okay. I love Soarin take your shoes off so they can feel the air :)

There are hand hold bars on the side and a strap for the little ones that you could use, just pretend your a little person ;) It will help you with the security that you can't fall out.

Also do the third row, ask to make sure but that one is the lowest so it will help that you aren't too far off the floor. You do lean back so no feelings of falling.

DW loves thrill rides but is afraid of heights and went on Soarin' with DD5. She was so scared, she almost had a panic attack. She had to close her eyes the whole ride and had to keep telling herself the ride was almost over. Meanwhile, DD5 was squealing in delight and urging her mother to open her eyes because it was so much fun. Not a pleasant experience for DW.

Neither my DH or I like heights, but we both enjoy Soarin'. I won't do the Astro Orbiters or any of the rides with big drops. On Soarin', once I get past the "lift" I am fine. Being lifted is a little too swift for me and my stomach has to adjust some. I hold on to the had bars and close my eyes during this.

:scared1: I never thought about how fast they could take you up in the air. Now that's a bit unsettling! Thanks for the tip!

Disneyaggie I think you are getting yourself all nerved up for this ride and there is no reason. You probably think this ride dips, spins jerks and all but it doesn’t. There is no catapulting in the air. It is so smooth that you will forget you are even up in the air. The ride does not tilt forward leaving you feeling like you are hanging. The seat will move slightly letting you feel like you are gliding with the wind.

I have this feeling that once you and your friend ride Soarin you will be back on in a few minutes.

IMHO this is one of Disney's best attractions. You must experience at least once. Then once will not be enough! Trust me :thumbsup2

I am petrified of heights. I was fine walking thru the que til I got to the very end where the warnings are, then I started having a panic attack. I sat on the seat next to dh, buckled in then started with omg get me off, my feet are dangling. dh looks at me and laughs saying your not getting off, i was almost crying, please tell the guy to let me out of here, he said nope. and the darn machine started moving, I am a big baby i know. we go up up up all the way to the top because of course we are in the front row. I looked straight ahead held onto the seat for dear life, when it hit me, this ride is awesome. as long as I looked straight ahead I was fine, by the 5th time riding it, i was looking down with the rest of them. It is a great ride, don't miss it, just keep your head up and looking straight ahead, and you'll be fine.

I LOVE Soarin and have been on 3 times! I"m also terrified of heights! I got more nervous and scared on Barnstormer (!!!) than soarin! My train of thought it's JUST a ride, and with that in mind I'm really able to enjoy the experience! I repeat that to myself on the ride! My Cousin who is also scared of heights had no problem on the ride either! It's a great ride and do it once at least!

I love rollercoasters, love all the mountains at WDW, but can not go on a Ferris Wheel to save my soul. I suffer from Vertigo, but don't notice it at great speeds, but slow motion or standing still... I can't handle it! Like tiff said, I won't go near the railings on upper floors at Malls.
and..... I HATED Soarin'! I could not wait to get off it!! of course i got the top row, too. I felt like i was going to fall the entire trip!! and i will never go on it again!!!!

is this a ride my kids (5,7) would like? they can do roller coasters with pretty much no issues. How about me? I get sick (headaches really bad) from simulator type rides.

If you're a bit uneasy with heights, then I would say it's ok to ride. If you are afraid of them to the point where you think you might panic, stay off the ride.

It's motion is very gentile except for right at the beginning when you go into position. Once there it goes into an immediate bank right (Top left feels like you never actually stopped your upward motion and the opening scene is breathtaking. It's gentile from there on in until the very end where it feels sort of like you're taking off in an airplane. There's a boom at the end and the apparatus gives you a slight shake. Then you're done and you go back down. But other than that, it's very gentile movement. Third row middle would probably give you the least. Top Row Left would probably give you the most.

Holly. Your kids will love it and I think you'll be able to ride. It's motion is more like a cruise ship than it is a simulator like star tours. Don't look at the very bottom of the screen. The feeling of motion is far greater.

Aggie. If you're scared of Dumbo, then Soarin is not for you.

Just remember. The first time through a ride is always the worst because you don't know what is going to happen.

Just remember, if you do go and you get scared, just lean back, think of the scenery, and remember to breathe.
