Ok....I'm really getting excited about making a scrapbook from the cruise. My bf got me a digital camera and I bought extra memory so that I can take TONS of pictures on the cruise.

What would you recommend for a user-friendly, yet kickin' software that gives you funky backgrounds and stuff? Also.....what's the best type of battery that you suggest in a digital camera....a rechargeable or a lithium?

THANKS!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Im sorry I cant help you out with the software, but I CAN help with the battery question. DEFINATLY bring a lithium! The rechargable ones are crap! (excuse my french) Ours would never last more than a few minutes even when it was new and we have a pretty nice camera. Our lithium battery has never ran out, but you might want to bring an extra one with you just incase if you plan on taking tons of pics.

My camera takes 4 double a rechargables (not nicad, but the other ones) I always take my charger and swap batteries daily, but that being said - it's not necessary. I've used one set for a four day trip successfully when I forgot my charger. If you opt for this, you may wish to carry a spare battery just in case.

There'll be tons of stuff for your scrapbook - my cruise album was the easiest I ever made, but I use paper not software, so i'm no help to you - I used textured pale green cardstockfor the backgrounds, a wild tropical floral accent paper, one corner punch style, and several of the same accent sticker sheet.

Well, it's not exactly what you were looking for I bet, but with a digital camera and a RW-CD you can have alot of fun with this:

You create 3D digital albums, customized with music (I get DIsney music and put it in to loop through...) and backgrounds and captions. Then I burn copies and send them to my family all over the world, in addition to making a "normal" scrapbook. The folks in Europe will see that when they come visit, but this way I don't have to wait, and my technophobe mom doesn't have to figure out how to open one image after another, she puts this in the computer and it opens, she clicks page after page to "thumb" through it, and can print out the images she wants.

For my scrapbooks I just Microsoft Picture-It! Very easy to use and I've gotten great results.

Actually we use both in our digital cameras. The lithiums do last longer, but for some types they can get to be hard to find and expensive.

For rechargables, I have only ever used one type: Rayovac Rechargable NIMH. However, the NIMH is the important part, regardless of brand, that type of rechargable is specifically for use in heavy draw devices such as digital cameras. I can usually get at least a full day's use out of one set, although I keep a second set with me just to make sure it doesn't go dead while using it. I also have one piece of advice, if the camera has both a screen and a regular pocket camera type view finder, do NOT use the screen. That is a huge battery hog and will really shorten the life of them, whichever type of battery you use.

A few cruise things of note, one, there is a very nice convenient plug at the desk in all staterooms for plugging battery rechargers in. Second, I have read on here a new service at Shutters(the shipboard photo shop) is they can make cd's from your camera's memory chip.

And to add to Mark's post - if you have pics burned to CD, check the CD BEFORE you delete any pics. There was a post awhile back on the WDW board about a couple having a CD burned @ Epcot, didn't check it, deleted pics and when they got home they ended up with a CD that wouldn't work, so they lost their pics.

I am a scrapbooker, but I don't do any digital scrapbooking, so can't help you with the software. We are on the May 1 Magic and I am already planning out the layouts for my cruise album though!!!

As for your battery question, I use rechargable NiMH batteries in my Kodak digital (it takes 2 AA) and the batteries last quite a while, depending on how many pictures I take, of course. And I use the veiw finder to take pictures, not the LCD screen, because the LCD screen drains the battery faster. I have two sets of batteries, so I always have a set charged ready for back up and a set in the camera.

Have fun scrapbooking!!!
Linda

I also use rechargables. When buying them, get the highest rated possible. 2100 mh last a lot longer than 1500 mh. I never had a problem with the 2100's, they last for 100's of shots.

I dragged my laptop along to download my digital photos (and use to watch a movie on the flight to and from, as well as to help pass the time when we were delayed hours at the airport) - but I just got an iPod, and will use that next time. They have an add on that allows you to download digital media from the memory card directly to the iPod hard drive, and then transfer that from my iPod to my laptop when I get home. Much easier on the shoulders, and I'll use audio books to help pass the time, instead of a DVD!
