Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Oh, Geez, I love this shirt. I have been thinking that it would be fun to run the 5K too (we are running the 1/2). And now I really want to do it. I love the design on this shirt. I just checked and the 5K is 98% full. I am going to ask dh. We would have to go up on Thursday instead of Friday. Oh my goodness, I am totally addicted to Disney running.
ugh!! That's great shirt! Wish I could come a day earlier!

So excited to see the race program! It won't let me open it. I even tried googling it and limiting by date, using quotation marks, and using advanced search. Just won't open more than the first page. :sad1:

Does anyone have a different link/have the ability to upload it to a google doc?

I'd love to see it. :yay:

They really load these things up with fonts and graphics.
Some browsers may have troubles loading the PDF document.
It's a PDF document read in some type of Adobe Reader App.

I figured out the program link...it was a problem with my internet...lol

So excited about the expo! Does anyone know whether any of the vendors tend to run out of things quickly (and if so, which ones)? We won't be getting to the expo until noon on Friday at the earliest (probably actually after that), and I want to make sure I get a runDisney jacket, a princess half shirt, and New Balance shoes. (and maybe a sparkle skirt?)

Also, is the New Balance sign up booth in Josten's Center or in a different building? The map is sort of unclear.

TIA!

Another vote for water and sport beans! I really like the fruit punch flavor, but lemon lime is a close second.

Last long run today! Decided to go 13.3 miles - threw in a little extra so that the PHM will seem shorter! :) Thanks to everyone posting about their long runs today - made it easier to get on that treadmill!

Patty - thanks for the link to the 5K shirt!

I like water and Honey Stinger chews. My favorite is pink lemonade. Afterward, I drink half of a pineapple flavored coconut water and a Smart Water., and eat a banana.

This just got real, y'all! I am really trying not to be stressed out and nervous! I am a big what-if-er, so I am fighting the urge to go through all the bad things that could happen.

Love this shirt the most!, my boys are going to hate it though. Lol

When are you doing your last run before the race and how long will it be? What do you use during a Half to stay hydrated and maintain caloric/blood sugar intake? I am seeing water stations along the way. Do you carry your own drink as well? What about these "beans" or "gummies" I'm seeing people talk about? I'm telling you...I'm a NEWBIE. Never ran before in my life. Better late than never :)

My last long run is Sunday, 12.5 miles. It should take us between 3 and 4 hours. I have a friend training for a half in Rhode Island so we are going together this weekend, but she has a broken toe so I may end up finishing alone. After that I will continue to do 30-45 minutes 3 days a week until we leave for Fl.
I carry my own water because I have heard that sometimes they run out of water before slow pokes like myself get there. I take my chews and waffles at mile 6 and 9, but it's different for everyone.

I love honey stinger waffles and chews too. They are really good and don't upset my stomach.

I have a what if for you. What if I can do this!! What if my training IS enough.
You so have this in the bag. Look at what you've accomplished in the last year. You are going to rock that tiara!!!

I love the waffles too! I prefer the chews for long runs though, because they saved me in a hot weather 10K when I didn't have enough water! They definitely don't replace water, but they got me to the next water stop!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I do feel good about my training. I have gone up to 14.5 miles, so I know I can run that far, and my dress rehearsal went pretty well. I guess I am just worrying about things I can't control, but if I can't control it, why stress out about it?

I like the waffles because I clench my teeth when I run and the waffle forces me to relax my jaw because I have to work harder to chew them but I do love the pink lemonade and the orange chews. And I don't feel like I need water with them.

I'm right there with you on the worrying. I can't sleep and when I do, I dream of running!

Getting so, so, so excited.

Spent a whole day last weekend working on DD7 and DD4's running outfits for the kids races. They tried them on yesterday and I am so happy!

My outfit is just like DD4's Anna costume. CANNOT WAIT!!!

I have to add a little more sparkle to DD7's Elsa shirt, but other than that I think we are good to go! :wizard:

Edit - sorry the pictures are so big, I don't know how to make them smaller

8 miles today, a few shorter next week with 10 on thursday or friday, then a couple of 2-3 milers the week of.

i have a small 8oz Nathan water bottle that wraps around my hand so that I don't have to actively carry it and can relax my hand. i prefer to skip the congestion that is water stations so i only stop when my bottle is almost empty and i need to refill it.

i use Clif gels, and sometimes the blocks. they aren't as thick as some of the other brands and the razz flavor tastes like raspberry jelly. :lovestruc you can a bunch of different fuel options at dick's/sports authority/etc. they usually have them in the queue near the register. :goodvibes

i used to use a fuelbelt for my phone, keys, and it has loops on the outside that you can squeeze the gel packs into for easy access. i'm going to need a new one now though because my new Galaxy is bigger than my iphone and isn't going to fit, LOL.

There are orange ones? I've never seen that flavor!

We stayed at BLT when I did 2012 princess. I would say pass on having him go with you to the start. I'm not sure it's even possible, because it's a 20 minute walk to the corrals I think you had to have a bib to pass thru the gate to get there? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. My husband just came out at the CR viewing spot then took the monorail to see us pass by the poly. What I will tell you is he said it was so insanely busy on the monorail he barely made it to the viewing spot by poly. Barely! Then he went to Epcot for the finish. To do it again, he said he would skip the poly and just do the CR spot and then the finish line. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much - I will have him try for Poly but tell him to bail quickly if he's not going to make it. I'll also have him skip the start - it's more important for me to see him in the middle somewhere and then at the end. Thanks!!

If I tweeted it would probably be something like GSC two weeks away and my foot still hurts! #panickingprincess

But I don't tweet so here I am with you guys...

My foot is still hurting. I don't think this is a long injury that will keep me from doing the races but I don't know what to do w my last long run which was supposed to be 12.5 miles scheduled for Sunday. I was going to run 3 today (not happening, foots getting better but not totally pain free and don't want to risk backsliding). Then I had a3.5, two 5's and a 3 before the GSC. I went up to 9 last Sunday and was at 13.3 three weeks ago at Tink.

Advice?!?! The longest I feel I can push that 12 to is Tuesday before I start to think it will affect my taper. If im honest i will say i am disappointed. I really wanted to just enjoy these races while running strong. Not limp thru them like I did the wine and dine...

Could someone explain how Runner tracking works? Does is use your chip to report your times?
Thanks

Thanks so much for this info, I'n going to check this out. I'm starting my taper this weekend, might give it a shot on my 7 miles scheduled for Saturday AM.

Can you believe how close we are to PHM? EEEK! :)

Since you're looking into it - I do not use Gen UCAN for the flavor. ;) The texture can be a little off-putting - because it's a starch, it doesn't really dissolve, per se, but more hangs in solution. I use on the small end of the water they recommend for mixing, and colder water is better (which is sometimes possible for beforehand; obviously, during the race it is not that cold!). Good luck!

Yep. It will report your splits at several points. I think it's something like 5K, 10K, 10mi, and finish. You'll probably notice when you go over the mats because of the beeping.

I don't have any advice, but I am right there with you. My heel hurts from plantar faciitis. My last long run was 11 miles on Jan 19. Then I ran in the Race for the Cure on Jan 25th (a 5K) and after that I had a sharp pain in my heel. I ran again on Jan 28th, 4 miles, and then my heel really hurt so I haven't run since.

I have been going to the gym and doing the elliptical machine and the bike. This Sunday we are supposed to run 12 miles. I know I am not going to run 12, and I am not sure if I am even going to try to run 3 or 4 miles.
I think I will be able to complete the PHM with a lot of walking and a little running, I just don't want my heel to get worse before then.

Good luck, Figment!
