Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Ok, I'm missing something. Where are you guys seeing the event guide/race program?

Nevermind. I still can't find it on the runDisney site, but I found it on longhorns blog!

Found it! They had me birthdate wrong. I'm in "N."

WOOHOO!!! I'm in M!! You have have plenty of people behind you, so keep your pace and you will be a-okay!!

Yee haw!!! This was the last thing I was waiting for!

Is that your corral placement? Sorry if this is a repeat of information, but I got the waiver using the trackshack link posted but I don't see a corral?

Look at your bib number then look on the Run Disney site, under runner info, and then corral and bib numbers.

I checked the link and nothing found for me or my dh.

We are doing the 5k.

I am thinking we will be in last group if we put 13-16 minute pace time.

The corral placements aren't available for the 5K, but you should be able to see your bib number. I put 5 of the 6 of us in the 13-16 mm pace group and our bib numbers are in the 9500's. DS17 is in the 7mm pace group and his bib numbers is in the 100's.
Check your registration info and see if they spelled your name wrong or got you birthdate wrong.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post, my friend and I run on a pretty busy street(sidewalk). Lots of cars, houses, and businesses. About mile 3, we saw a Minnie Mouse antenna thing on the ground and a mailbox with their reflectors in the shape of Mickey and Minnie. My friend and I said they were hidden Mickeys and we took pics and got all giddy!! If that excites us, what ever will we do on race day?!! I think we may burst with excitement!!

Is this your first Princess? If so, you will have lots to excite you and keep you distracted while running/walking. Music, characters, entertainment and water stopped. Yes, water stops, I am always amazed at the people who get up early to volunteer to hand out water. Give them a smile and thank-you.

Question re: spectators - my DH is coming with me (shhh....don't tell the kids where we're going....) but not running. We are staying at Bay Lake - could someone tell me if this is feasible:

- Have him come with me in the morning (he does NOT want to do this, but I'll likely wake him up anyway), see me start, maybe like at the 0.5 or 1 mile point?
- Take the monorail to Contemporary, see me around mile marker 5
- Hoof it on over to the TTC (via monorail), mile marker 7+ (ish?)
- Take the monorail back to Epcot to see the finish

Can spectators move around that easily? Of course, this would mean that the monorail would be fully functioning at that hour. This is my first ever race and would love to see DH as often as possible. (Hoping he can also take any layers that I strip off along the way, too. lol)

I won't tell the kids.
I think it is hard to see runners at the beginning of race. I have never been a spectator, but a runner and I see people along a fence line for the first 1/2 mile or so, but it is dark as well.
There are lots of spec. at the TTC and a few at the Contemporary. Not sure how fast you run. That will make a difference too. Maybe if he was at the TTC and monorail over to MK and be on main street and then Mono. to GF and see you there and the he could be back to Epcot for finish.

Layers…take some "disposable" clothes. Old long sleeve shirt, dollar store mittens. All the articles collected to the Goodwill or some place like that.

I am so glad to see someone else has the same concerns I have about some of the run Disney merchandise. I did put my Tink mug in the dishwasher because it didn't say I couldn't and the logo came off. This also happened with the Aulani mugs and glassware I bought - again, no caution on any of these items so I am not happy. The necklaces are so cheap also - I go to Beecause charms as well as Sole for my jewelry.
I have been happy with the jackets, pins and tech shirts - not the regular shirts.

Hi, I go to WDW all the time solo - was just there solo for marathon weekend. Look at it as an opportunity to do what you want to do and not compromise. There is a Mickey Miles meet up on Feb. 22 at 3 pm at the Boardwalk Bakery - lots of fun people. I would be happy to meet up with you for the expo and/or in the gathering area - you will have so much fun!

Last year we stayed at Poly for WDW half. DH was a spectator for the first time and he managed to:
~Wake up and escorted me to the start of race. Don't think he necessarily saw me start, but he saw THE start.
~He went to TTC via monorail and saw me at mile marker 4ish *I think*
~Woke kids up in resort, waited for them to get ready and rode monorail back to see me at finish with kids, with plenty of time to spare.
**I started in corral G and finished in 2:29, my avg pace was 11:30 I think. Hope this helps.

ETA: for last years princess, my kids saw me in Magic Kingdom then monorailed back to finish with plenty of time and my sister also was at MK and she also saw me (by chance, not planned) crossing Poly to Shades of Green

Oh good point about it being so dark at the start. Probably not worth dragging him along for that? Also, I presume that once I get to the starting area, he wouldn't be able to hang out with me, right?

Good to know where the "disposed" clothes go to - I'll keep that in mind!

Yes, this is very helpful! Actually, looking at the map more closely, I see TTC is mile 4 and mile 7 is the other side of Poly. Between mile 5 and mile 7, that's probably not a ton of time for him (I run ~11:30 mile, too). This is all good info - thanks!

I looked at my bib number then looked at the placement for the race to find my corral placement.

I am not sure if you are responding to me...but I would be more than happy to meet up with any other alone-goers! :goodvibes

Are there any other meet ups?

This is a WISH meet up on Saturday at DD 5pm near Earle of Snadwich…all are welcome. There are some good places to pick up a bite to eat.

You will need to allow at least a half an hour to walk to your corral and you will want to be in your corral at least a half hour before race if not an hour. There is a large "party" area before walk to corral, music tons of people, but once you leave that area he will not be allow to be with you.

For those running/walking without a phone, there are tents with letters on then A,B, etc in the large "party" area and you can plan on meeting your friends and family at a certain tent. WISH'ers can meet at the "w" tent.

Hello all!

I have decided to run the race and not defer so I booked a last minute flight and hotel at Pop. This will be my first half. Due to an injury I have not been able to train.....until last week. I am starting in Corral J so that should help. I am really planning on walking most of it and just finishing. I don't care what my time is...I just want to experience going down main street, through the castle and just crossing the finish line. I will be going next year with a friend so plenty of time to work on my time.

I am nervous and scared. I ran/walked a 10K last year and finished. I am so worried that I will be swept that I am having nightmares about it. I am so thankful that I will have an online friend in my corral who will run/walk with me......

Two weeks to go (or less) for many of us! With school and work I'm finding that I haven't thought a ton about this trip. I'm so wrapped up in life that the trip still feels totally unreal. Anyone else in the same boat? Even prepping for my usual pre-race rituals aren't making it feel real!

Yes, completely unreal to me too! Life has been so hectic, and the constant school delays/cancellations have been making me crazy :scared1: I still don't even have a packing list put together yet...I feel very behind on my planning.

I did get a 5-mile run in today, so that made me happy - but it was indoors again due to weather :( Sooooo ready for that Florida sunshine :thumbsup2
