Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

White. AGAIN??
Last year's shirt has been the best. We had white shirts in 2011 and 2012. :sad1:

This is the first year they have put them out to see before the expo. Maybe because they have NOT put up the program yet.

I agree Joann!! The white t-shirts stain after long periods of use. I wish they would have did colored shirts.

These weren't put out by rD. these were shared by someone who is helping print the shirts via twitter. :)

No 5k or kids pics. Sorry!

10k is white, half is grey/silver and gsc is blue.

My bad!! I can deal with grey/silver and blue. Yay Disney!!!

Interesting. That would explain why they look so similar since they aren't official rD photography.

I have a white shirt from Tink last month (which I purchased, not the race shirt). I don't mind white shirts in a long-sleeve form, because I don't wear LS for running in that often and so it should "last" a little longer than my short sleeves/tanks do. Hopefully. I DO love the female cut shirts though - I will actually wear them out vs. the unisex ones I have from w&d.

However, I do have a beef with the merch this year/2013. My 2013 W&D pint glass got accidently put in the dishwasher by DH.... and half the logo peeled right off. :( He felt so bad that he missed the "hand wash only". Truthfully, I missed it too at the expo because I wouldn't have bought it. My 2012 w&d has been through the dishwasher many times and hasn't peeled. Between that, the Tink race magnets peeling (see pics on fb), and the cheaper necklace version,s I'm disappointed. Especially since they charge $8,000,000 to do these races. I still love the races, but I'm not going to be waiting in a 45 min line for sub-par merch. I think I'll head over to rawthreads or bee-cause charms booths and pick up a few things there instead. I saw some really funny shirts at Tink.

Side note: I got a non-official short-sleeve w&d tech shirt last year and that has held up well.

I love the Princess Half shirt! Nice and simple, basic color - yay! I'll be at the expo with three boys, and getting in and out as quickly as possible. I was hoping for a race shirt that I would actually wear so that I'm not tempted to stand in any merchandise lines. Ordered pins for the boys for the 5K and ears for our youngest doing the kids' races - excited to see what those will look like! Thanks for posting, Patty!

I would definitely call them then.

I like the shirts too!

I completely forgot about the kids ears I got for my son! :cheer2:

Oh boy, 3 shirts, race packet, wristbands, race retreat and chearsquad stuff plus DS's race - I was going to go alone, but now I'm thinking I might drag my mom with me to carry it all. :thumbsup2

I take an empty backpack to expos. I can put all my goodies in it and be hands free for shopping the exhibitors booths.

You need to call them. Did you put your info in here?:

Mine sometimes get upset with me when I go to Disney without them (I used to go to their scrapbook weekends) but I tell them mommy doesn't go to your sleepovers and outings with friends. this is mommy's sleepover. Plus, they know eventually they will go to WDW again.

I am doing the half. This will be my FIRST EVER race. I am not trained like I should be AT ALL. I will probably WALK most of it and jog some. I am very nervous about the whole thing. Especially more so than before, since I just found out the person supposed to be going with me has backed out. I am not very happy about it at all. Two weeks before the race.

You're going to be fine, promise! I'm so excited for you, and what a great race to do as your first! My first was a RnR here at home, 3 of us signed up, 1 vet and 2 newbies. Vet came down wicked sick and was forbidden by her MD to race. So the 2 newbies showed, struggled thtough, and FINISHED. It's the best feeling when you cross that finish line! Trust me, you will make friends along the course and you will help each other get though it.

Be prepared, get lots of good sleep leading up. I didn't sleep a wink before my first, and I still have problems staying asleep the night before a half...too excited!

A friend was supposed to go with me, but backed out TODAY!! Two weeks before the race...backs out on me. So now the twins are upset and do not want Mommy to go alone. I'm nervous to go alone (flying and just being there almost a week...alone lol) I'm trying to figure this out.

The girl from Active did not send any bib information. Could it be because I did not submit a time?

I haven't been here in what seems like forever...busy, busy, busy!

Thanks for the posts on the shirts, they look great!

So after being cooped up after the snowmegeddon here last week, I had to get out this past weekend and get some foot time in. But I was dumb, dumb, DUMB.

Went out Saturday, did a fast 6 miles. Black ice be darned! It felt GREAT. I felt like I could go forever. Sunday was my long day...it was my 12 mile weekend, so as I had posted earlier, had a postponed 9 mile race to do. So as planned, I did a warm up and cool down to make the 12 miles.

Got though it. Posted a decent time on the 9 mile (YAY!). Got home, peeled out of my clothes, took the hottest shower I could stand ( I was COLD!). Got ready and came downstairs to go to the store with DH, we had party supplies to get for the game.

And I CRASHED. Bad. Nausea, faintness, shaking, sweats...had to sit on the stairs and hang my head between my knees. Totally scarry.

And then I realized: did my 6 miles on Sat, got home and ran errands with DH. We had a really late lunch, so I wasn't hungry for dinner.

Got up Sunday AM, grabbed a bar and ran out the door (was running late for the carpool to the race site). Did 12 miles on a 200 cal bar with no dinner the night before. D-U-M-B.

Had DH grab a bag of freeze dried strawberries and a cold dt ginger ale. Just let the strawberries disolve in my mouth, within a few minutes was starting to recover. Got out of the house to the nearest Hardee's where I wolfed a 1/3 mushroom swiss lettuce wrapped burger in about a minute flat. Instant recovery!

So now I am trying to figure out what to carry during the race. This issue with fueling has only surfaced since I started racewalking. Even though I intervaled on previous races, I was slower, not expending as much enegy. Now with the racewalking increasing my speed, I"m going to have to figure out what to carry during the race.

So ensues the great forum search/healthfood store crawl. I don't do flour or sugar. I'm afraid, after 27 months of sugar free, if I consume a gel or sport beans, it's going to result in a gastrointestinal disaster that will not only be the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me, but will also be talked about at future rD races for YEARS to come (if you get my drift). What I consume takes longer to digest, so no instant energy like with a gel.

Hoping to figure it out soon.

After reading the entire blog hop (which I LOVED...thank you for that:love:), I am starting to second guess my pre and post race plans.

On the day before the race, my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I are planning to get up around 8:30 and head to Magic Kingdom. We want to have lunch at Be Our Guest, ride a bunch of rides, have an early dinner in the Castle, and then head back around 6:00 for some shut-eye. My initial thought was that we wanted to be tired early, and walking around the park would help us get some sleep; however, now I'm wondering whether we should take it easier that day and rest our feet. We have a Castle reservation though, and that would be tough to get on a different day. Am I crazy to do MK the day before the race?

Also, on the day of the race, we plan to take it easy, head back to the resort for some hot tub time and napping, and then go to Downtown Disney for dinner and the Happily Ever After party. We figured we would probably be tired, and we didn't want to push ourselves too hard; however, now I'm wondering whether we will feel excited and want to go to a park for the day. I'm also wondering if we should book a lunch/ brunch somewhere instead of our dinner. If so, what time would we even book it?

Can anyone who has run this before tell me what you think about pre-race and post-race planning. I am really not sure whether to change our plans or keep them. Also, I really don't want to be changing around fastpasses when I'm there, but I'm totally okay with changing them from home. We only have 2 1/2 days worth of park tickets (the half day is pasta in the park with extra Epcot magic hours), and right now we are planning on going Fri. for pasta, Sat to MK, and Monday to HS.

What would you change/ keep? Thanks! :confused3

I just got a pair of Brooks GT 14, anyone have problems, with their first run? I wore GT 13 originally, but it's been awhile since I had a new pair of running shoes.

Oh great questions! I'm wondering the same thing. What should I do the day before and day of the race?

I didn't want to miss the parks completely but know that even without running a half the next day my feet usually hurt from a full day at the parks. Decided to do a half day and then hang at the pool and go have dinner before going to bed early.

The track shack link is where I found my waiver and bib number but I booked through run Disney. Not sure why you didn't get one, maybe someone else can help point you in the right direction.
Don't worry about traveling alone. You'll be fine!

I started with the 13 and recently switched to the 14. I love them! No trouble at all!
