Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

I find myself in the strange position of hoping our current forecast holds... All of our northern visitors DESERVE a warm, sunny Florida vacation!

We just got through a cold front and it's warming up nicely today. Humidity is low (40-50%) and is expected to stay that way through Sunday. The wildcard is another cold front... it was looking to start coming through Mon, but has now been pushed back to Tues. If it comes sooner, that would add humidity.

I'll warn this: plan on lots of sunscreen, especially outside of the races. We run pretty early, before the sun is very high or strong, but it is intense these afternoons. I got scorched the other day, standing in full sun to chat for 20 minutes. Not the norm for this Floridian!

Awwww thanks V! If its not too much to ask (haha), I'd love temps in the 60s w LOW humidity for the races and then some nice 80s in the afternoons after. :) I too am just sick of this snowy weather. Thanks for the reminder about sunscreen ill go pack it right now.

I'm finishing up my tutu tonight and hoping to run in it tomorrow. I have no idea if ill wear it for the race and if so, which race but it was super fun to make and looks so pretty!

Did my last long run today--8 miles--yet again on the treadmill. I don't understand why we got snow today. Had I realized, I would have tried to get outside yesterday when the roads were still somewhat clear. And more snow predicted for tomorrow night.

Ready to go--although my DH and I are now going to have to do rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock for the carry-on suitcase because it turns out the day/time I get back, he is leaving on a business trip to Europe for two weeks. We are literally going to pass one another in the airport! (And yes--he can pack for 2 weeks in one carry-on....even with size 13 shoes!)

I LOVE Big Bang Theory!!!! Hahahaha!!!

Boo to snow and ice. Yay for warm sunshine! Continuing to appreciate PrincessV's advice - keep posting, please!

I was fine with the increasing mileage over the past few weeks. Having trouble with the taper, but trying to conserve energy and not overdo it in the final days. When we arrive on Thursday, hoping to stick to our plan of runDisney event each day, few hours of park time, and pool time in the afternoon. Please help me resist pressure from my three boys to just "run over to another park quick" for more rides in the afternoons!

I recall paxsarah is in Corral C for the PHM - anyone else there with us?

Who else ended up with the race retreat for the PHM?

Figment, would love to see the progress on your tutu! I have no idea what I'll wear for the PHM. Now that we have a better idea of the forecast, that narrows it down a bit, but I can't decide. Putting two tank choices, three skirt choices, 3 sock choices and 3 headband choices into the suitcase. The only certainty - my pink/grey running shoes!

The 5K was easy, since our boys decided to dress in costume and I ended up as Belle. Not sure if our 7-year-old will be very comfy running in his Beast costume, so if you see a Belle carrying Beast costume parts at the 5K, that's me! The Cogsworth and Lumiere costumes our teens wanted to wear are literally consuming their entire suitcases! Seriously - I just packed them and there is no more space! Good thing they're teen boys and don't need much for the long weekend. I'm really wondering how they are going to run in these costumes, but we'll see!

Are you going to be able to make the meet on Saturday at 5pm in DDD near Earl of Sandwich?

i bought it, just to make my aunt more comfortable :)

the crown for my atta costume was waiting for me when i got to DF's :) i need to figure out how to attach it to the antennae band, but it's all good now!!

walked around the airport and DLR in bad flats and i have a pain on the right side of my lower right leg, but I'm hoping that goes away.

this time next week we'll be done!!!

I am going to try to make it to the meet! I don't have anything to identify me, other than the pink streaks in my hair!

I am leaving Wednesday! I can't believe it is almost here. I officially finished my training program today. I got a little emotional! I was finishing up when Mandisa's Overcomer and One Republic's I Lived played. I may or may not have burst into tears.

I have a good cry after all my long runs, probably because they have all been my first.

We are leaving Wednesday too, just as soon as DS17 comes home from school. So beyond ready, especially after the 2 more inches of snow we got last night. It has snowed every other day for over a week.

Awesome! I hope I get to see you at the meet!

Yeah! Facebook banner is finally updated! Now let's see some merchandise! Not that ill get any of it since I won't get there until Friday.... Hopefully they will have something left.

Is it Friday yet?!?!?!

Help! I need some help from the running experts out there. Several months ago I dropped an iron on my toe. For months the nail was black and blue but growing out. Today, the nail cracked and basically I could be missing half of it for the race. What do I do? Glue it? Tape it?

I guess it depends on how it cracked (parallel or perpendicular to the cuticle?) If it was several months ago, the nail bed under the nail is probably strong enough that if it falls off completely you'd be fine.

it cracked parallel about 2/3 of the way down from end of my toe. I was so bummed the minute I saw it.

As long as there is nail bed under it, you should be fine if it comes off. You could even trim it down if you need to. Maybe just buff the edge so it's smooth and doesn't catch on socks. No worries! I consider all of my bruised or lost toenails a battle wound shared by many runners. :lmao:

Hi all! I want to wish everyone safe travels to WDW. Please remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Looks like it's gonna be hot! Whether this is your first Disney race or your 30th: have fun, relax, laugh and take it all it in. See y'all out there with 25,000 of our closest friends!

Cindy :hippie:

I can't believe it is almost here!! All the training, injuries, blood, sweat, and tears are going to be worth it in a matter of days. Safe travels to all! I won't be at the meet on Saturday as I will be roaming the magic kingdom, but I hope to see some of you all at the race retreat for the 10k. :)

I'm getting so excited!!! This is my first half and my first disney race. Any tips for us newbies?

Ok, here are my top 10 tips for "newbies":

1. Smile!

Seriously.... have fun and be amazed at yourself! :thumbsup2

2. Trust your training.
3. Get on the bus/monorail early. Hurry up and wait is the name of the RunDisney game.
4. Pre-hydrate, but don't over-hydrate during the race.
5. Keep to your planned pace/intervals, at least for the first 2/3 of the race. You will be tempted to start out too fast thanks to adrenaline and other princesses, resist and "Run Your Own Race".
6. Remember "the relentless pursuit of forward momentum" just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
7. Don't wait in too many long character lines if you are close on pace. Remember you can also get pictures with characters AFTER the race, and with your medal!
8. Pack your running gear in your carry-on luggage.
9. If you tend to be a salty sweater, consider having a spectator bring pretzels or tortilla chips to the finish line for you (or in your gear checked bag).
10. Don't be afraid to chat with other runners before the race, or during! Especially those whose costumes make you smile.

Been so sick the past few days with a stomach virus. Hoping, hoping, hoping to start feeling better soon :( I've been looking forward to this week for so long and I can't believe that this is happening now!
