7 miles this morning!!! :woohoo: Longest run to date. I tried VERY hard not to think about how much longer 13.1 is when I was running! :scared1:
No sweat - more than halfway there already!

I have heard of it but never tried it! I'll have to give it a try, thanks! :goodvibes
There are others that are good too - Blue Emu, STOP Pain roll-on, Ben Gay makes something new... should be a section of menthol-y pain relief gels at your drugstore.

With the early registration opening up on June 6, I've been doing a lot of thinking about the race. I put together this blog post to pull together all the info I know from doing it last year and from reading about it this year. I hope someone finds it helpful!

AWESOME post - spot on!

Think the 10k could sell out in early registration?
Yes and no - they reserve a certain number of spots for early reg; when they're full it'll be sold out... until reg opens to the general public. Then the rest of the 10K spots will open. But they'll go FAST. Like, maybe within hours. Be ready!

Oh my gosh, that's so crazy!! I'm worried now!

Awesome job!! :cool1: You've got plenty of time to get the rest of the way!

Great post/tips, but I'm wondering where you heard this?:

If you do get pregnant, injured, or can't run for whatever reason, RunDisney does offer a deferral option. There is a deadline of several months prior to the race, you have to e-mail RunDisney (or Trackshack, the company who helps with the race logistics) and get the deferral approved. Then, they keep your money until the next time your same race rolls around (you used to be able to pick any RunDisney race to defer to, but that is changing) you get an early registration into the race which you pay for again, and then you get your first registration fee refunded to you less a processing charge (this was $35 in the past, but rumor has it is going up again).

Specifically the requirement to defer to the next time that race happens, and not just a race later in the year.

I'm new to this forum and have decided after reading people's posts, I should join in. I am a 40+overweight woman who doesn't do much running, but has now decided to train for the Princess half and of course the Glass Slipper Challenge. My goal is to lose 30lbs, and then start really training by Sept. I'm going to run the half with my daughters and other family members. There is 8 of us. I think we will all have a great time, I'm just nervous I won't get in shape enough. Also, right now I have terrible heel pain. I am thinking of trying HTP Heal Seats. Anyone use these?

Thanks for posting this! I enjoyed reading it. This will be my first race. :)

Does anyone know if DVC members are able to register early? An if so, do I go through the DVC site to register?

Also, I plan to run the 10k. Is the time from a 5k allowed to determine the corral placement? Or does it have to be a 10k?

I read about it on this awesome blog: http://margaritasmilesandmouse.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-change-will-do-you-good.html :worship:

The DL half has this on the website:
Deferrals - If you are currently registered for the 2013 Half Marathon, Disneyland® 10K or Dumbo Double Dare you may defer your registration to the 2014 Disneyland® Half Marathon Weekend , subject to availability, on or before August 23, 2013.

 Congrats, I did the same thing last year. If you can, do a lot of walking between now and September to get your legs and feet used to the pounding. Do your heels hurt towards the inside (closer to your arch) or the back of the heel?

Thanks. Good luck on your training! :cool1:

For the 10k I'm not sure you need proof of time. This is from the WDW registration info page:
If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 3:15 hours or the Marathon in less than 6:30 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge and Dopey Challenge participants should adhere to Full Marathon proof of time requirements. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile.

Proof of time must be provided from a certified race reflecting results after January 1, 2012.
Half Marathon - 10K or longer
Full Marathon - 10 Miles or longer

It doesn't mention the 10K needing a proof of time. Neither does the Disneyland Marathon info page, it just references the Half Marathon.

Anyone register for the 10K only at either of these events that can answer if a proof of time is required?

Welcome! This will be my first half! Is it yours? I start training in a week or so. Have you gone to a running store to be fitted? They may be able to help you with that pain. My local running store changed my life!

Training question!

How do you all work your training? I thought I would do a 16 week leading up to the Princess, but that does not start until October 27th (and that's actually 17 weeks, I added one for good measure)

Do you work up a plan before that? Do you just work on your running base?

I have been training for my first 10K in two weeks and I'm unsure what I will do after that. Up until now I have been running 3x a week: 5K tempo run, maintenance run (4 miles) and then a "long" run (7 miles this week).

I'm not sure what to do after my 10K? I'm prone to injury and don't want to up my mileage too high/too fast b/c I'm worried I'll injure myself before the race, but feel like I should have some sort of "plan". What are you doing?

You will do awesome! TONS of time to train... and you are not as far from that 13.1 as you may think. I didn't take my mileage up to 13.1 before this years phm. It wasn't hard to finish the phm...

Congrats on the long run!!!

yikes...no proof of time for the 10K at all? That makes me very nervous. I don't really consider myself a fast runner by any stretch of the imagination, but in terms of this race, I guess I am considered on the faster side. I won't be looking to try and PR the 10k or anything since I'll have the half the next day, but I do want to be able to run my own race and finish in a reasonable time frame. I can't see self-seeded corrals working at a disney race at all.

I have been running mainly in a brooks pureflow... nike free run for short runs. It has come time to replace (both actually) and since the brooks have always seemed a tad small (I have a bunion that takes a bit of a beating in them) I went with a half size bigger in the new pureflow 2's. Now... why do they have to mess with shoes when they release the new versions? "improvements" are not always a good thing. So while the toe box is great in them... I ended up with such slipping in the heel that I have big blisters on my heel after today's run. (NEVER had blisters there) So either I would have to sacrifice my bunion and go with the smaller size or my heel and stay with the larger size. So my thought is this version of the pureflow will not work for me. :sad2:

So does anyone have a suggestion? Another shoe similar to the original pureflow? I like a minimalist shoe with some cushion. (so while I love my free's, they aren't great for longer runs) Problem is I do have "duck feet" as my dh pointed out to me. Wide in the forefoot (due to bunion) and then narrow at the heel.

TIA! :goodvibes

Have you looked into Altra Torins? Minimal with cushion. I run in pureflows and may go with Altras when they need to retire. I've done some research and think they will work better for me than pureflow 2's as well. Maybe they will come out with 3's and those will be better! Lol.

I got it from runDisney direct - I wanted to defer my WDW Half reg to Princess... nope. Starting with the 2013 Disneyland Half, you can only defer to the same race the following year.

Does anyone know if DVC members are able to register early? An if so, do I go through the DVC site to register?
I haven't heard yet of a DBC early reg, but it'll be under Special Offers (Member Offers? something like that) for the discount code.

I've been keeping my schedule between training plans and alternating 3-4 and 6-7 miles for long runs with two short runs mid-week.

I can't see self-seeded corrals working at a disney race at all.
I think they'll corral the 10K since they've started doing so for 5Ks too. No proof, but I'm sure we'll enter an estimated pace or finish time and they'll corral based on that.

I use the Jeff Galloway apps for training. I am starting the 10K program in a week or so and then I will start the half program.

Ugh, I'm so sorry! You know I know your frustration. Altra is worth a try - I found their heels to be a touch too wide but I really have freakishly narrow heels.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will have to take a look at them. However, given what PrincessV mentioned... I wonder if they will work for me. I have such a hard time getting shoes. Maybe the 3's will work out for me... cause the 2's are not. Hard to wait in the mean time though.

That seems to be my trouble too. My heel is narrow. This is why the 2's are slipping on me... and I even did a runners tie to cinch up the heel a bit.

So, what about proof of time for the 10K? If we haven't done one before, are we supposed to estimate, and if so, what would be a good (yet realistic!) time to put?
Thanks!

aaahhhhh,..... I've been thinking 10K....but I'm worried that I will be sad that it's not the half!! Maybe the key will be to not be anywhere near the half on Sunday....

I've seen a lot of people recommend staying at a monorail resort...think there as an advantage to the monorail that's even better than staying near EPCOT?
