Hey MickeyFan & BlazerFan I too am a walker but a super impressed with your times!! On the treadmill (most training done due to New England weather) I am consistently at 4.0 (15mm) - but outside I am closer to 16mm. I have started to do intervals walk2/ jog1min on treadmill. Have done this for several weeks but my last outside walk (it's was 92 @8am) was no improvement in time. How did both of you get to such fast times and be able to sustain it for sooo long ?

Hi Dreamer. My fastest was this past January 14:30 mm. The weather was perfect. During my walks for training i avg 15mm. But once i am charged on event day i get a burst of energy with music and magic at disney. Just keep doing what your doing and you will get there. :)

Thanks everyone for the advice! I did buy the cutest iPod shuffle in pink to match my new sneakers today!! Now I need some good pace songs to download!! Do you just make playlist of different lengths or just one big one? Where do you get them from iTunes? Anywhere to set a pace and it shows you songs to choose from?

Wow, just found out we are going back home for a wedding this weekend, and though we would sign up. I cant believe its sold out already.

guess we will have to register for the 5K

I recommend runhundred.com. They have thousands of songs listed. You can sort them in a bunch of ways, including by BPM.

My music isn't sorted by pace. I just have a mix of upbeat and/or motivational songs on my playlist. I usually buy my songs off Amazon. I am not fond of iTunes; I find it complicated.

One thing to look into is if your library has free music available. My library has some sort of partnership with Freegal, which has mp3 files we can download. I have to use my library card and PIN number, but then I can download 5 free songs a week. The selection isn't all that great, but it's free!

Some songs on my playlist:
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore
Countdown - Beyoncé
Don't Stop the Party - Pitbull
Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia
End of Time - Beyoncé
Get Me Bodied - Beyoncé
Good Life - One Republic
Hall of Fame - The Script
It's My Life - Bon Jovi
Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
Love On Top - Beyoncé
New York Groove - Ace Frehley
SpectroMagic Parade
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Waka Waka - Shakira
What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction
Wings - Little Mix
You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi

I just booked my flights for the Princess Weekend! :cool1:

Southwest just extended their booking window this morning. You can now book dates through March 7th.

I got my nonstop flights for $145 each way. Sooo much better than the $563 round trip that Delta wanted - and those flights had a layover! :faint:

I was just at Southwest's site and going to post here that it has opened up. Guess I will click to purchase..not happy about cost, but it is cheaper than last year. Southwest just came into our market a few months ago. I am also going to sign up for the 5k and make it a triple crown weekend.

Good you on making it a triple crown weekend. I wish I felt brave and strong enough to do that.

I do much of my training on the TM also and put it at an incline of 1% to replicate the roads. I actually find my outside times are faster maybe because of the incline and I think it also helps me control speed outside so I don't go too fast too soon. I am currently around a 14 min mile (probably won't get much faster due to asthma struggles!) but I am okay with my per min mile.

You have cold and we have...HEAT and HUMIDITY...this morning at 7 a.m. Already 78 f and 80% humidity...yup...TM again !:thumbsup2

I have to admit - the treadmill's been growing on me this summer. Last year, I was apparently very lucky to have so many runs without thunderstorms. This year? Not so much. But the more time I spend on the 'mill, the more I'm starting to prefer it to sweltering outdoors, lol! To get through my final 16 miler before TOT and an Oct. half, I have a plan to put in an hour or so outdoors, 30-45 mins on a treadmill at my city rec center, another hour outside, then finish whatever's left on my home treadmill. Gotta be better than staying out there for over 3 hours, right?! :faint:

Sounds interesting. Not sure I could go in and out and in and out. Most I've done on the TM was 14 and not sure I could do much more.

I thought the TOT was a half? I don't go over 12 miles for a training run for a half. Is that a certain program you are following?

TOT is 10 miles and I have a half a couple weeks after that. I'm following Galloway's Time Improvement plan, which includes speed work and goes up to 16 miles on long runs.

I can't do more than 30-45 mins on a 'mill; for some reason the 'mill aggravates my vertigo and I'm pretty dizzy and nauseous after about 45 mins. Running outdoors at this time of year in west-central FL is a total Catch-22: if I slow down my pace to account for the heat index (which experts calculate is higher than anyone even thinks we should be running in, lol!), I'm out there frying under the sun even longer. I've taken mid-run dips in my pool before, and it helps bring down my body temp a little, but it's a huge PITA to remove shoes/socks/electronics/etc. each time. I figure I can can route my runs so as to be outside for an hour or so before getting to my rec center, run inside to a treadmill to keep moving while cooling off in the AC, head back out toward home and straight inside to my AC'd treadmill - when it'll be after 9am and acceptable to have it rattling away (I'm in a condo with neighbors downstairs.) We'll see how it goes! I've come dangerously close to heat stroke several times running in summer, so I'm concerned about these summer long runs.

I just did 9 mi this weekend on treadmill and set the timer for 4.5 mi and then a other 4.5 mi and it wasn't too bad. I'm with you as I don't think I could do more than a half on the TM.

Oh V do be careful outside...wish Disney would schedule races when we didn't have to train in the heat ! Hoping the DL half is coolish...DH has had some overnights on so cal and said his running has been good so here's hoping !

Good luck with your plans PrincessV The heat is a hard battle to overcome in the summer. I have read that having your fluids really cold helps to keep the core temp. down. Don't know if it is true.

On another note...signed up for the 5k..I am now in for the triple crown and my flight is booked. I think I will upgrade my resort as I am not going to any parks and a nice pool will be fun.

Hee hee - as I was testing the fancy treadmills at the rec center, I found myself wondering if I could tolerate 4ish miles on a 'mill, take a turn or two around the super-short indoor walking track, then hit a different 'mill for 4 or so more miles. The mind games we runners will try... :rotfl:

I promise, I'm being much more careful now! Long story, but I had a very bad experience with a heat wave and no water to be found at a Grateful Dead show when I was young and I've been extra sensitive to heat ever since. It just sneaks up on me so quick, I rarely notice it's coming until I realize, "Hey, I'm not dripping in sweat anymore and I'm kinda lightheaded!" :headache:

Thanks! I'm sure cold fluids would help... but they don't stay cold for long down here. I've left home with a frozen bottle of Nuun and it was air temp within 20 minutes. But I did discover a water fountain in my favorite park that sits in the shade until close to noon - I wouldn't call it cold, but definitely cooler than air temp! I may or may not have doused my entire being in that fountain on occasion. :rolleyes1;)

Wooo hooo!!! I'm still not even booked for TOT, let alone the WDW 1/2 or GSC. Waiting for AP rates is arduous... :surfweb:

Thanks for the heads up. I'm now booked and for less $$ than I had planned for. :)

Hi! I just signed up for this two weeks ago (a bit spontaneously) with a friend. I am also running Wine & Dine in November, during a family trip. I think it will work out really well to do a time-improvement training plan to prep for the Princess half. So, I'm excited but also a little anxious as it will be my first time leaving the kids with DH since my first child was born...she's five now. (Not nervous about DH being able to handle it but about missing my family a bunch and feeling some "I'm in Disney without my kids" guilt ;).) But, I am excited to meet up with my friend in Disney and have a mom's-only long weekend and run an awesome event. I look forward to reading back through some of this thread over the next few days.

I booked mine with Southwest today, too! About $312 roundtrip, which was less than anyone else except Spirit (who was only about $5 cheaper and would have charged for both checked AND carry-on luggage).

One more thing to scratch off my list!

I'm thinking about getting a bag from Thirty-one (one of my coworkers is a consultant) to use as a carry-on (now that I know I can have, they both a carry-on and checked luggage, thank you Southwest), and have it embroidered with their crown/tiara design. Then maybe if anyone else going to the PHM happens to be on the same flight, they'll see it and introduce themselves!
:cheer2:

Booked my southwest today too! $210 pp round trip. Also changed resort at my sister's request (shes doing the 1/2 with me unless she gets pregnant) from BWV to BLT. Not 100% sold on that move, but it will make the half easier for our spectators. I think now I will have no spectators for the 10k though:( it's our parents points, and they'll be there, so I go where I'm told, even if I'm almost 40;). BLT is probably my favorite, with BW close behind, so it's not like not having spectators is going to ruin the trip. I'll probably need the course support more for the half anyway:).

Now if I can just get over my injury and resume training!!!!
