HI everyone! I have a quick question for you. :)

Is the 16 minute mile an average? Or, if you are running a 14 minute miles but then suddenly get burnt and run a one 16.20 minute mile will you get swept?

My understanding is that it is an average of 16 minute miles. You don't want the total to be more than 16 minutes per mile. So in the example you gave, you'd be fine.

Caitsmama, thank you so much for the design. I love it. It will be perfect.

Love, love my design! Thank you so much!
Did I mention I love it?:lovestruc

Thanks! I guess my use of "average" was a bad term to use. You just have to finish in 3 and 1/2 hours?

I was picturing them timing your chip at every mile marker and the minute you go over 16 minutes during any mile of the race you were out.

Right now my miles are all over the place. I'm not running at a steady speed. I seem to start slow, speed up, then slow back down. :confused3

Thanks, Stacey! That design is great. :goodvibes Congrats on your 6 miles.

I am getting ready to head out for my cemetery walk. It sure seems cold out there! 29 degrees with a "feel like" of 26. But, at least it is dry, and I did buy some cold weather gear, so I should be fine. I just wish I had not left my gloves at my in-laws house in NY... I guess I should come up with something else.

Stay warm Christine! When I ran yesterday it was 42 but felt like 35 with the wind. This morning-no wind and 53!!!! :headache: Oh well. Made it easy to walk to dog.

I'm running the Royal Family 5k on March 7. :) I just registered yesterday! I am new to running and to 5k, so my goal is just to finish. I live in the area (Celebration) so I won't be traveling, but my husband and I are going to make a day of it. You can add me to the list!

Welcome!

Thanks! I'm happy to have somewhere to "go public" about my 5k aspirations so that I have some accountability!

You are definitely in the right place. I needed the same thing. I haven't exercised regularly in years. I signed up for the Princess 1/2 and got a slow start to my training. However, I've been going strong for a couple of weeks now thanks to the encouragement to the wonderful people here.

Welcome PiPhi! What a great place to get your start on organizied races!

I did stay nice and warm on my walk. And, I busted 9 miles again this week! :cool1: So, my average pace was 13.14 minutes/mi over my 2 hour walk. I woulld like to keep that up and finish the 1/2 in under 3 hours...but judging by how I felt today, there is no way I can keep that up for another hour!! So, I will shoot for a 3:15 finish.

Okay, I've had my lunch...now, I really need to hit the shower!

Congrats Christine, that is great!!!

Welcome DisneyPiPhi!! How lucky are you to live next door to disney!! Do you enjoy living in Celebration?

I do! We're from a small town in Michigan and had lived in Orlando for two years. We were very grateful to find Celebration because it has the small-town atmosphere we grew up with. Sometimes, the extent to which the town is planned can be off-putting, but for the most part, I really like it. And the proximity to WDW is obviously unbeatable! ;)

Cool - another Michigander. I'm from the Upper Peninsula but spend at least half my time in Lansing for work.

I am running the princess 1/2, maybe the 5k (not decided) my first 1/2 starting my training tomorrow:cheer2: ... any suggestions?
Thanks:)

Glad to have you all on board! I'm Shelley. Feel free to ask anything you need. No question is silly! Everyone has to start somewhere and what better place to start than Disney and the DIS! :thumbsup2

Jewels1449- The best tip I can give you is start slow. Build your miles. Remember this is an endurance race not a sprint. Also running is a long term investment. The steadier you build your miles and time the more return your investment will pay you.

Questions that might be obvious, but I don't know the answers to:

1. Can you run in the 5k with an mp3 player? I cannot fathom running without mine, but if I have to go without it, I want to start training without it soon.

2. I know that during some endurance events, Disney takes your picture and you can purchase it. Will they do this during the Royal Family 5k? I know to some people this race is no big deal, but it'll be my first so it is a big deal to me and I would like to have a picture of it! :)

Hi again!

Disney's "official" rules, state NO MP3's / ipods.. for safety. However, that being said, i know there are lots of people who still wear them. I was like you, and didn't see how i would run without it, but i was glad i didn't wear it, as it was nice to get to fully hear all that was going on around me on my first race, especially the cheering and the piped in music in Epcot.. it was nice!

As for pics, yup.. there will definately be photographers around, and they will take your pic and then you will get an email a few days after the race and it will point you to the site with the pics and where you can view/buy them.
