So is anyone going for pasta the night before? If so, where to?

I am planning on trying to find pasta at CBR where we are staying. I want to make it early to bed since it will be early to rise.

I did the 10K Turkey Trot here in Cincinnati on Thursday. According to my Garmin I did 6.31 miles in 1:12:09! That is my best time ever! :cool1: I am typically a walker, but I did do more jogging than usual. I averaged 11:26 minutes/mile.

I'm going to start the MFM walk/run program on Monday!

Wahoo go megan. I'm due to start my running world one tomorrow too- however now it's for a marathon it's looking even scarier.

That's a brilliant time- well done, love the fact it was over 10km too!

Yep we're def heading for pasta at POFQ where we're staying too. same logic- early to bed and everything. Will have managed to squeeze in two table meals that day too on dining plan so hopefully shouldn't have to eat too much :rotfl:

Anyone from colder places have an tips for stopping your lungs getting cold when running? It was -1 here yesterday and i'm just not used to it!!!

HI everyone! Got back from WDW late last night (or rather early this a.m. ) LOL
Had a blast as usual.. Weather was GREAT. :) I am really pumped to get training now, don't forget all those doing the MFM training plan should be starting tomorrow!!!!

I highly doubt that WDW will cancel the P&P party, they already sold us the tickets, and i think that was a huge selling point to part of this whole "Princess 1/2 thing" ya know?? So, while i am sure they are tweaking the course, i rest assured that the P&P party will be on. ;)

You guys seem to all be doing well with your training, congrats!!! I did lots of walking in "the world", no running, but lots and lots of walking - we stayed at the Beach Club, and walked to Epcot and MGM (hollywood studios -- whatever) i know the walk from the BC hotel to MGM is 1.25 miles each way, so 2.5 round trip, and we did that a few times, plus all the walking in the parks.. (countered by the frozen mudslides by the pool..) but now i am home and very very excited to start the MFM plan tomorrow!

Good luck with the training ladies! Started my MFM training this morning. Ran for 30 min and got in 2.5 miles. Not too bad! Wasn't as cold as it has been so we will see when that winter wind starts to blow if my time slows down.

hey all! sounds like everyone is on the training kick now as well!
Im running a 10k this weekend, hope to complete it without walking.
with that being sad, how to i send in my time to disney so i can get a better starting spot? do we do it through the website we registered?
Not that my time will be fast, but it will be better then nothing!!

Hey gang, just wanted to send out PD for all those starting training this week.... wahoo that means we are close to Princess Weekend!!!!

I just got an email response from WDW sports regarding a question on the Princess and Pirate party I asked and it appears that it has been canceled. They did let me know that they were planning another Princess themed party the night of the Half marathon. Perhaps those of us who bought tickets will have our P&P tickets transferred to the new party? princess:

Happy training everyone!

Congrats Lauren!!! Um, is that a new siggy i see?? Is someone cruising with Mickey soon?? LOL ;)

RunDisney - I am sure they will come up with something for the post race party - i am confident in that - if not, well, i will be at the nearest Poly bar having my own party with a few of my friends - Pina Colada, Mudslide, and Margarita.... LOL

Yeah, I broke down and we're going on the Podcast cruise. I couldn't miss my chance to see inside the Roy O. Disney suite. Never mind a special "members only" Palo brunch. I'm such a sucker! :rotfl:

I'll be with you drinking then. I've already made my super cool pirate and princess party skirt! It's got pink roses and skulls. I'm totally wearing it anyway.

Did you just get back from the mouse?? Hope you had super fun. Can't wait to see the LOs

Hi! Good luck to everyone who's starting their training today. Makes is easier when you've got that plan tacked up and can check off the days.

It's been awhile, so I thought I would check in!! I completed my first 1/2 marathon this weekend! I ran the Space Coast 1/2 in Cocoa, FL. It went amazingly well, I finished in about 2:48 with potty stop time included. I followed the MfM r/w plan, (although LTO and I ended up missing the longest run in the plan which is 10), I did about 9 miles as my longest. In the end I don't think it mattered too much. My next one will be the Disney 1/2 in January!

Keep up the good work everyone!

Wow Amy, that is GREAT!! Congrats!!! I would love to stay around the 3 hr. mark.. lol.. If i finish this 1/2 ok, i would consider doing the R/W plan next time (instead of the W/R)

Lauren, yup.. got back about 1a.m. on sunday.. LOL Hopefully gonna start on a lo or two by tomorrow. :)

Amy - WTG on that finish! How was that event? DH and I are thinking of doing it next year.

As for the eve party ideas...staying at OKW, it has a blender, margaritas come out of a blender...'nuff said. :drinking1

I was pretty happy with that finish too!! I thought the race was great. I don't have much to compare it to, but it seemed really organized, medal and shirt were awesome and the course was pretty (and flat!!).

Here is my report if you'd like more details...

My report...

Space Coast ½ Marathon-11/30/08

This was my first ½ marathon. It was a great experience.:goodvibes Since this was my first half, I tried to not set too many expectations, other than using it as a learning experience and hopefully finishing in under 3 hours. I am using the MfM R:W plan for training and was a bit concerned because I only trained up to 9 miles (I had been hoping to get to 10 as the plan recommends, but LTO and I only made it to 9).

Packet Pick-Up/Night Before
-Packet pick up was at the host hotel (Radisson at Port Canaveral), and was super easy. I was able to exchange my shirt for a smaller size too. They also had a pretty nice dinner set up ( free for runners, maybe 5 dollars for family?). We didn’t eat dinner there since we had a large lunch and I just wasn’t ready to eat at that time. I ended up getting a salad and having a slice of pizza later on. I went to bed around 11 after getting all my stuff ready and slept until 2, then kept waking up every half hour or so, having dreams all night of oversleeping and missing the race. I got up at 430 and was on the shuttle to the start just before 5am. The shuttle was great, on time and a nice bus.

Pre-Race
-The race started and ended in Cocoa Village, which was really nice and was all lit up with Christmas lights. Bag Check, Finish line and port a potties were all in the park there (name escapes me at the moment). The race was due to start at 6am, so I walked around a bit and warmed up, used the potties a couple of times, then checked my bag and headed to my corral. The corrals were assigned based on the time you gave when registering.

The Race Itself: The race started about 10 minutes late, not sure why. There was a space shuttle liftoff themed countdown on a jumbotron. The course was an out and back. North for 6.5 miles along the Indian River and back to town. Full runners continued south once reaching town again for 6.5 miles and then headed back. The course went through a residential area (VERY nice houses!). There were quite a few residents out to watch the race. There was even a guy at mile 12 misting people with his garden hose!! Also, once I hit the turn around to go back, I was running into some very strong wind!!! There was Water and Gatorade every mile, Gu at mile 8 and for the full they had Gu at every stop after mile 14 and sponges at some of them. It was very flat, and I think it would be a good course to PR on. Lots of volunteers and a lot of them were in space themed costumes. Plentiful potties too on the course!!

The first 8 miles or so flew by. I tried to stick to my intervals (Run5/Walk1) as much as possible. I had some clif shot bloks every few miles and took the Gu at mile 8. Miles 9 and 10 were really rough. My legs were TIRED. I walked ALOT more and ran slower. I was able to pick up the pace again for 11,12 and 13. And I finished in 2:48 (probably 2:44 if you take out potty stops). Got TONS of comments on my WISH shirt, I wore the race ready one I just got in the mail. There was also a timing mat at the turnaround.

Apparently they even announced my name and town when I came into the park to finish. I didn’t hear it, but DH did. I got my chip cut off and then got my medal, which is totally cool. It’s way wider and heavier than the Minnie 15K medal. They also gave us beach towels! The shirt is a long sleeve brooks tech shirt. Also got my picture taken with my medal and the guy took one of me and DH too. They also took one pre-race and several during the race.

There was a big post race breakfast as well that looked great (pancakes, pastries, bananas etc). I did not have anything, I really only wanted to drink (water/gatorade) that is and we also needed to get back to the hotel for check out.

Final thoughtsI am really glad I did this race. I find comfort in feeling that I have a better idea of what to expect at Disney (of course this race wasn’t nearly as big as Disney, so that will be new). I know what I’ll need to do for fueling and hydration for 13.1 miles. I am a little sore today, but nothing like I thought it would be.

I am still kind of mentally processing that I have actually completed a ½ marathon. I think back to what I was doing a year ago (nothing) and it blows my mind to think of how far I have come. So glad that I have found WISH. I am very much looking forward to January!

Here are a couple pics. All the race pics I took are on a disposable, so I need to get that developed. Hopefully the ones taken by the race photog's will be up soon.
