Hi everyone! I want to apologize for being MIA last week here -- I really didn't feel as if i had a moments peace and quiet since the cruise - its been go go go...

Anyway -- i really need a pep talk!! I am debating joining the local town gym -- as you know, my TM died, and i am dreading the winter training outdoors -- but i also hate to spend that montly money!!
So, please give me the kick in the butt i need to gear myself up to train the best i can outdoors.. I think honestly, it will do me better in the long run (no pun intended) to learn to deal with the hills, cold, pavement... etc.. rather than at the gym on a TM.. But, I MISS MY TM!!! If i could afford one, i would go get a new one tomorrow, but it's well out of our budget right now. But, i also think about the classes i could do at the gym, and the free weights.. so there are more pro's there... ugh, i just don't know.. but i need to decide asap!!
Maybe i will pop into the gym and get a tour, then go off my gut instincts..

Sorry for rattling and making no sense.. i just am not sure which way to go... I MISS MY TM!! :( LOL

Caitsmama: OK since you don't know me very well, I do tend to do Wet Noodle Lashings to people who need it and I think its your turn. I think (and of course its only my 2cents) that you should keep in the outdoors for now. You might just be amazed at how "not boring" it will be. You still have some time before the weather gets too bad before I think you need to make such a decision. Outdoors, afterall, is FREE!!! How is that for a push. Then as you see that the weather is getting to a point where it is very hard to be outdoors, then maybe think of joining a gym with good TM access and one you could do on a month to month basis. That's it!! SO GIRLFRIEND get out there in the great outdoors and get going,....are you moving yet??:rotfl2:

Thanks for your attention in this matter,
Tracy

I know we're in prime booking time for meals and such over the race period. I was wondering what sorts of plans y'all were making? Where are you going? Where are you eating? How long are you staying? Etc...

I guess I need to get with my mum and book our hotel room and sort out our dining soon!

It's looking like ASMo is filling up. If my mum and I have to stay somewhere else, will we be able to drive/park somewhere the day of the race (she is doing the 5k and I"m doing the 1/2)? If we park at the start for the 5k, will we be able to get a shuttle back to the starting area to pick up the car later (I can't drive it to the finish as I don't drive).

I'm hoping my hubby will come down too and he wants to dart around to try to see me at various places on the race course (start...somewhere near the middle...and at the end), so he's also trying to figure out how to accomplish that.

Thanks gang!

I think I am coming in from the Thursday till Monday. I am staying with some friends from Friday to Monday so not sure about Thursday. I have always wanted to eat at the Castle so I might do that, If I am not to late to book something....guess I should do that today :)

I soo have NO time right this second but:

Whoever it was that wants to eat at the castle, do if you really, really want the experiene, but it's very expensive and the food is sub par. It's really a shame. And it wasn't just my experience either, sadly it really is that bad.

In re parking: yes you can drive to the event

Caits: You talked ME into this woman with your cool scrapbook LO, and now I'm in therapy! LOL YOU are WALKING with me. Don't make me come up there. (how was that?! :cutie: )

Madam court reporter, why are you late for court? Who me??

Actually Lauren I was just looking at the prices....WOW.....only reason I considered it is because I am going solo so only have to pay for 1 adult, but I think that is a little steep, but really want to eat at the Castle....what to do????

My suggestion...if you really want to eat at the castle...go for lunch. Same basic 'packages', a bit less expensive. Okay...so you won't get to see the fireworks from the windows....that is always a long shot at dinner anyway.

Personally, for the 'princess' touch I'd rather eat at GF (can't remember the name of the place Park Fare I think) or Crystal Palace. Better food, more reasonable prices.

Hubby and I talked over dining options last night and have decided on:

Liberty Tree (we both love it there)
50's Prime Time
Crystal Palace

And I'm still trying to convince him to do Hoop-de-Doo again (loooove their ribs!!)

Cheers.

(who is off to train...woot!!)

Ohhh love Prime Time!!!!!!!

Will check out some options, not sure what time I am arriving but I believe I am solo for a day until the rest of my team arrives so might wait and see what everyone else is doing.

Okay...I've got yet MORE questions...this time about racing in general...

1. Swollen hands...I've noticed that after about half a mile, my hands begin to feel tight and dry...to the point that my wedding rings which are usually loose, no longer fit. ACK!! Any suggestions for how to move the fluid back out of my hands? I've tried to keep my arms bent and swinging, tried clenching and un-clenching my fists in time to my steps, and even resorted to walking half a lap with my arms above my head, flapping my hands about in desperation. HELP? I'm getting to the point of considering those compression gloves for burn victims!!

2. Stingy legs....I shaved yesterday and today the light sheen of sweat on my legs was enough to make them feel like they were doused in acid. Anyone else have that issue? Any suggestions?

3. I'm going to do a 'preparatory' 1/2 marathon locally in November. As a novice, what things do y'all suggest would be good as far as clothing and 'gear'. What things can't y'all live without? Bearing in mind this is November in Georgia, so think 40-60degrees outside temp.

Okay...I'll try to limit my questions today to just these three.

As for the workout... I did a mile in 20 minutes. *sigh* I just can't seem to break that unless I jog a bit...but my body is really not up for that yet. I mean, even at my 3.20 a lap pace (our track is 6.5 laps to the mile) my heart rate nearly hit my max (156 out of 157). And I think my max HR should actually be a bit lower due to my weight.

Oh well...I've got 5 months...I'm sure things will work out and I can be a proper princess with the rest of you!

Cheers.

Where is everyone staying for this race?

I will be at OKW from the 6 - 9th but need somewhere on the 5th and thought I would stay where most at staying....this solo thing is freaking me out a bit:confused:

Kim - what time Thurs are you planning on getting in? I could fly down Thurs eve instead of Fri morning.

Swollen hands - I walk with my arms bent and never below my hips and that helps. I normally wind up having to ice my hands after a long distance for about 5 min.

Stinging - Hmm, never had that problem.

As for what to carry/wear, really is a personal perference thing. For long distances I carry my amphipod with water, GUs and couple beans. In those temps I'd wear running skirt or capris, short sleeved wicking T plus hat and sunglasses if bright. Keep in mind I'm in Chicago so those temps in Nov would be quite pleasant. Whatever you do, test it first!! Several times testing would be best.

You'll do great!

Travel plans - Arrive Sat am, staying until Wed am. Southwest has a great schedule from Orlando to Nashville in the morning. Leave Orlando at 6ish and arrive in Nashville at 8:05. DH can get to work by 8:30, and will stay a few minutes late that day. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this schedule because - 1. it is really fun to call him at work that day and say "you were in Orlando this morning" and 2. it really extends the vacation without taking another vacation day. You get to play all night instead of sitting in the airport all night.

We will be staying at Boardwalk Villas - Here's hoping my Boardwalk view comes through!

I am torn on dinning plans - It's just DH and I and I know that we don't want a ton of ADR's. I just don't want this vacation to be planned at all. But I would like 1 romantic, leisurely dinner. I'm having a hard time deciding. DH is allergic to seafood, so that eliminates a large portion of the more "adult" restaurants. DH, who is being a big *pbbt* about it, also refuses to eat at Cali Grill. I am thinking maybe Yatchman's steakhouse or Jiko. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Alphabetsoup - I have gone though the hand think before. What really helps is losing some weight, and getting more used to walking. I know, it sucks. In the mean time, you might want to try drinking lots of water before you walk. (You are an adult, I trust you not to drink too much water) And keep swinging your hands. It will get better.

Soupy, I think I would skip shaving for the days leading up to the race.

I am doing a 10K in November and expect it to be chilly here in Cincinnati. I bought a pair of Capri tights from RaceReady. They have pockets across the back. I have not worn them yet, but I have shorts that have those pockets and they work out very well for holding my stuff. I am not sure if I am ready for the world to see my but in tights, so I will likely have on a tech shirt covered with a longer t shirt.

Hockeychic--there is a listing on page 1 where everyone is staying--though last I looked my info was not correct. I am meeting up with a high school friend of mine for the event. She lives in North Carolina and we see each other only every 2-4 years. We'll be at CBR. Not sure about dinner plans. I am arriving Friday morning and staying until Wednesday. I am pretty sure my friend is leaving on Monday. I don't want to do much in the way of fancy dining before Sunday...

Don't be freaked out by the solo thing. It is great fun. It really is "Magic Your Way" since you don't have to take others plans into consideration.

Thanks everyone.

Liz, I don't have my flight booked yet but will get the first flight out of Toronto so I should arrive mid day. I just figured with buying AP's and paying for the flight I would try and get as many days in as possible:goodvibes

More days are always good!:thumbsup2

I fly SW and they only go out to March 6 right now so have to wait for that to open to book flight. I have the time and the points so could grab an early flight Thurs and see if we can meet at MCO to head over. What you think?
Oh I always rent a car - just a me thing.

Liz, I don't want to put you out, you are being more then generous.

I was checking March 5th prices and not too bad but will keep a eye on them as I can fly SW as well, just a quick drive to the US :)

Let me know what works for you, but it would be great to have a friend there for the entire trip:hug:

Aww liz and kim I hope your travel plans work out. It'd be so lovely to hang out together rather than go solo. I half wish i was coming out alone just so i wouldn't have to worry about parents! When i was lookin into where i'd stay if solo i decided i'd pick one of the hotels with race transport, now i'm not sure again. Maybe POFQ but we're hanging on to see if exchange rate picks up for us again.

soupy i would always wear shorts and a hat in a race with either short sleeve or long sleeve t depending on weather. Again i'd agree try it out first.

christine don't be shy, you're a WISHer get your capris on!!!!

I've registered for a 10km on sunday, but have just seen the elevation graph- eek. I really shouldn't look at those things

Hey, I am more than willing to come in a day early to help my friend!
I'll extend the ressie and we'll figure out flight timing later.

Anyone doing anything interesting for dinner Thurs night?
