2boysmom How about a camel pack??
I have seen them as a back pack and a fanny pack.

Hey all! I am back from my looong weekend in New York.

2Boysmom--looks like you got lots of good advice. Now, stop being so hard on yourself!! The training books I read said training is no time to try to be losing weight. be attentive to what you are putting in and how you are reacting to it. For my long miles I eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on a high fiber bread. I grind the peanut butter at Whole Foods, so I should not have to worry about salmonella.... That works like a charm for me. I think it is the protein/fiber combo that works for me. I also drink a Boost high protein drink when I am done. I think that really does help with the muscle recovery. I have a gel shot every 30 minutes with water on my long mile days. And, I use a CamelBak for hydration.

I didn't read word for word, but I did "skim" back. What is up with the WISH headbands? I did tell Rebecca to do them on magenta... and one pic posted looked pink, and the other magenta...:confused3

Since I was out of town I did my long walk on Friday before I left. I have mentioned that I am doing a modified version of MFM--I go by time instead of miles. It was still not suitable outside, but I did 2 hours on the TM for a total of 9.436 miles. I rested Saturday, then used the TM at the hotel on Sunday and Monday morning. About 4.5 miles on Monday and 6.8 miles on Sunday.

This Sunday I will bump up to 3 hours, then back down to 2, then one hour on the Sunday before the 1/2. Or, now with all the talk of taper, maybe I should go with 1 hour on 2/22 and skip altogether on 2/29. Any thoughts?

Couldn't said that better myself CarolA, u r so right my running store also has replace shoes that rubbed me here or there many times, so I am surprise yours didn't replace the shoes Caitsmama did they do the gait analisys there and did they fit you? from time to time I do get a sore spot but never a blister specially if I am doing a new distance, but I agree don't go cheap or cute in the socks, another advice PLEASE RUN IN YOUR RACE OUTFIT BEFORE THE RACE:laundy: , hope other runners agree on this one, you need to test drive everything from food to underwear you want no surprises on race morning. Keep also in mind what DSNYFAN21 said about the socks, what works for one may not for others I love Smartwool running socks, I train in other running brands too but this are my favorite race socks. Her advice works for everything else (outfit, food etc)

I was just wandering how many of us had run before in a race 5K, 10K and how many had jump on this as first experience.

Did my 12 miler today, hot really hot so I iced my legs for 1/2 an hour, the sun killed me, ran a new route no to get bored and ended in a stretch w/o concrete, running on grass really hurts!!!!! but I know is better for your knees, next week I'll go 14 will try for hubby to take the kids to school so I can take off before the sun comes out.

If you haven't yet, go get the current Runners World magazine, I have 5 years of them store in the garage and go back to them from time to time.

Time is getting closer, so stop feeling like Cinderella and start feeling like Mulan and Pocahontas:thumbsup2!!!!

PrincessRunner to answer you question as you can see in my signature I have run quite a few races (I didn't list my local 5Ks) but I have only been running since June of 2007. It should be interesting to hear everyone elses experience. I think its great if this is someone's first race ever - I know I didn't even think about a marathon (full or 1/2) when I first started with running and now I feel more comfortable doing a longer distance race then a 5k.

Everyone is making me feel like a slacker in training - I haven't gotten more then a 5.2 mile run in since Jan 11th. I keep reminding myself that I really need to get at least a 10 miler in but I haven't gotten there yet. I also keep reminding myself that I am still in shape from the marathon and at least in my mind I know I can do the 13 miles - its just I am not sure if I will PR this time. At least I know it will be more exciting then my 1st half marathon (not that it wasn't exciting since I finished with what I considered a great time and I was estatic that I was able to do it) I just mean that during the course it was pretty boring - especially in some spots where we went back over the same course 4 times, then there was the neighborhood we went through where I felt like I was either off course or the very last person since no one was around. At least at Disney you can't get off course and there is always something to keep you occupied.

Christine - 1 hour the week befoe the race owuld be good. It's tape, not alck altogether. ;) I amdoing 5 or 6 tha tSaturday, tehn I will do 30 min Tuesday and 30 min Thursday. My plan calls fo 20 min Saturday, but that one I skip. If life happens and you miss one or some of those, wyou will eb ok, but don't just plan to skip them.

We're staying at the Shades of Green. My DH can jog over to the Poly and use the monorail. Does anyone know what time the monorails are running???

I told you all about the balls of my feet burning after mile 9. They were new shoes. It was the third or fourth time that I had worn them. I took them back to our running outfitting store (voted the best in the country). They took them back and refitted me again! I got some Mizunos. Tres expensive! But, if they help with the problem I will be glad to pay! I also got one of those thin belts to carry my Ipod, jelly beans, etc. So, then off to the rec center track to try out my new purchases, including socks. So far so good. My feet felt great, but only did 4 miles. The belt was very comfortable, didn't even know I had it on! Friday or Saturday I hope to do 10 miles again and see if the problem is solved.

As far as my experience, I have only done a few 5K races that were not timed like the Susan Komen Breast cancer run. I really didn't do any kind of walking regimen until my daughter convinced me in September to do this race. So, this is my first timed race and my first half marathon!! I, too, am getting nervous and feeling unprepared. The shoe issue just sent me into a tailspin. To think of all the work that I have done and then to be possibly derailed because of poor shoe choice is just unimaginable!

I have lost about 10 pounds (not really trying. I need to lose a lot more), but my clothes fit differently. This morning I tried on a skirt that fits now but did not fit at Christmas.

So, we all just need to hang in there. We will do fine, especially helping each other along. That's what princesses( and queens) do.

Hi, I'm so excited to do the first princess half marathon! I just finished doing the WDW full marathon in January, so haven't been doing much training since then. Had a couple blisters I was trying to heal up, but haven't followed much of a training schedule since the full.....wish you all good luck and see you at the finish line!:cheer2:

Is anyone doing the breakfast on Saturday morning after the 5k? We were thinking about it. But not sure.

Annette :)

Meg, glad to hear you got the shoe problem cleared up. I am guessing you went to Roenker's? I have to head over there myself. I want to get some gel before my 3 hour outing this weekend. I am hoping the weather holds to be outside.

How did you do with the storm? For all that wind, I have not seen any damage in my part of town. Wonder how the trees over at Spring Grove fared? Guess I will find out on Sunday.

Hey girls! Just checking in. I am going to try for 4 miles tonight. Wanted to do it this morning but I have a Valentine Party at my sons pre-school. Although with the crazy winds here I bet my time would be great as long as I went with the wind :lmao:

Hi Annette!

I believe Vicki is doing it and I thought I saw at least 1 other WISH Princess reply that they were doing it too.

I finally bit the bullet and handed over my 5K registration fee to Active :surfweb: I had planned on doing the 5K but kept putting off the actual handing over of the moooo-la LOL During lunch yesterday I was surfing the Sports site again and looking at the 5K map .... well I just couldn't put it off any longer and signed up. I love Epcot and love running around it. :goodvibes

While I was surfing yesterday I notice that they had loaded the Expo Exhibitor List. When you are on the main Princess Page click the EVENT OVERVIEW link on the left and then click the EXPO link. I really like knowing who will be there in advance.

I want to stop by the Run Girl Run booth, at the Jan expo they had a necklace that said 13.1 with the "." being the head of the person running. Also typically One More Mile has charms too.

My training is going ok. Last weekend the weather was very nice and I managed 9 miles on Sat and 6 miles on Sun. With a little over 3 miles on Tuesday after work. Off to visit the gym today. It's back to being cold. Brrr.

 I hear you on that! I walked during the windstorm back in September and made great time!! I did have a lot of dirt imbedded in my neck, however! :lmao:

WOW this thread moves too fast for me....3 weeks until I arrive at WDW. Now that I finished a 10 mile long run, I'm starting to get excited!

I would like to order a headband. Can anyone tell me the page # with the info so I don't have to search through all of them?

Is there a designated meeting place before the 1/2 or 5K? I can't attend the festivities the night before. I am not going to the breakfast after the 5K - too expensive for not very much food selection. Seems like I would be paying to take photos with the princesses. Speaking of which, for marathon weekend, were there opportunities to take pictures with the characters after the race? When I did the Minnie 15k in 2007, the characters were outside in the parking lot and you could take pictures with them. The race retreat package advertises photo ops with the princesses but I don't want to pay for that either if I can take pics after the race anyway.

Any word on the EMH situation at HS? I haven't noticed any updates to the Disneyworld website.

Now I really need to start thinking about what I will be wearing. Still undecided on the skirt/tiara/princess costume thing...

My sister in law lives in Chicago and we are planning to run the marathon in 2010, had you? I'll love to do all the majors and I did NY already...glad weather is better, see you soon.

I ran the Chicago marathon last year. It was my first marathon and (other than the heat and blisters on my feet) it was a great experience. There are people cheering everywhere and a lot of the neighborhoods provide entertainment along the course. I haven't decided whether to run Chicago again this year. I would  to run NYC and will probably enter the lottery so that I can run it 3 years from now...

WISHers usually are hanging out near the familyreunion tent with the W, so like the tent that has R-Z. Look for some lime green!! Some hang out before, some hang out after there and some do both!! Come over and say "Hi!"

Christine:

No, we didn't get hardly any damage over here from the wind. I think the September storm took all the weaker trees and branches out. I imagine spring grove should be clear by this week-end. Is that area pretty flat?

Yes, it was Ronker's. So, I tried my new shoes and developed shin splints!! YIKES!! (Actually, I think the shin splints came from several factors: worn out shoes, going from flat terrain to hilly Cincinnati and not warming up). Why is everything happening right before the race?? And why do I sound like such a complainer??? I stopped today after a mile. I talked to my DD who is racing with me and is a doctor. She told me to start tapering off, that I am ready. But, I did really want to do 10 miles in my new shoes to see if that foot problem on the balls of my feet developed. Oh well, it is icing, massaging and stretching for me for a few days. In some ways, I want the race to get here and in other ways, I would like more time to iron out all these last minute problems. Not training for a few days gives me more time to work on my tiara. It will be covered with very large real jewels that I got at the hobby store for a dollar.

Happy training!

Meg

The BIB NUMBERS/WAIVERS are OUT!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Go to the main Princess page and on the right side on their bulletin board is the link to print your waivers and find your Half Marathon bib #'s.

My 5K waiver isn't up and that is because they only have the waivers loaded if you signed up prior to 2/8/2009. So if you signed up for the half or 5K after that date don't freak out! LOL Like I almost did LOL

YAY!!!!!

Della!!! Thanks for that update, I'm not sure HOW I missed it today. I've been haunting the Princess pages all day except to hit the gym and dinner LOL I'm now possibly rethinking it might be a maybe now :thumbsup2

I RAN thru Robert's site quickly and didn't see that he had the corrals I'm sure quite a few of us will be haunting there too waiting to see :rotfl:

TRACY!!!! PAT!!!! Bib#'s please!!! I'm 4223!!! ACK!

I was haunting the site also. I cant believe i also missed it. My Bib #1138. It says in the newsletter that your princess will be on your Bib do you think this includes the 5K. It says on the waiver we are getting chips. So the 5k is definitely timed then. This is making be both excited and nervous.

Amanda

PS i didn't get volume 1 or 2 of the newsletter does anyone have them still. I was wondering who the other princesses were
