I posted a few pages about about the discounted tickets. I have the code but was wondering if I can purchase this discounted ticket for my mom who is not participating but will be there with my kids. There is a disclaimer about the tickets being for participants only but I was wonder if this was really the case.

Thanks!

Hi, Everbody!!

I have been in South Carolina, with a side trip to the Disney marathon, for the past month. Let me tell you, it is a lot easier training there than training here in snow, ice and freezing temperatures in Cincinnati. My last long walk there was 11.5 miles. I averaged about 14.25 minutes per mile. Hopefully, the weather here will break sometime next week so that I can get another long walk in. It sure is easier walking on the flat terrain along the coast rather than the huge hills of Cincinnati!

It was very exciting to watch our daughter run her first marathon. Let me just say, Disney does it right. Everything was well organized. We encountered no problems at all getting around, finding where to go, having her time texted to my cell, etc. They did a great job. Other than seeing my daughter finish, laughing and waving to us ( I don't even think she was sweating!!), my other favorite sight was the man running in shoes and a very tight, very small bright red speedo and nothing else. It seems that every woman I talked to noticed the same man. Hmm.... funny that.

Last week-end we walked a few miles together to see how our pace was in sync, since she is going to walk with me. It worked out pretty well.

Today was the first day that I looked at the boards in over a month. You all had a lot to say!! I was thrilled to see that the course has been changed to run past the Contemporary. That is where we are staying. Now my husband, who will be watching my daughter's twin 5 year old girls, can see us walk by than take the monorail to Epcot for the finish.

Christine, maybe I will try spring grove for a walk. We live in College Hill so it is quite close to us.

It is certainly getting exciting. But, I am still dreaming about those "sweepers."

Meg

The W tent is not part of the Runners Retreat that you pay for.

They have little canopys? The kinda you would set up in your backyard for a small party. The kind that would hold maybe a table a few chairs. We don't actually meet UNDER but near it. They have 6? of these. I am looking at a very small map from Marathon weekend :)

These 'tents' were straight ahead of us as we entered the staging area in the morning for the race. If you had walked straight you would have run into the Family Reunion Tents then look for the Tent that includes W. If you continue to walk by these you will walk into the Runner's Retreat (the one you have to pay for). Now in 2007 when I did it the Runner's Retreat was actually were all the Charity tents were this year. So this could change. They might not even have them, who knows. They didn't have them for the Minnie weekend races and I don't recall posts for the ToT (but that was 2007) nor the EE5K.

I think there will be enough in the o'green to be spotted ;)

OH!!! Family/Friends that are getting up and coming with you to the staging area. I wanted to point out that if they are heading up to the MK area, TTC or planning on cheering from the Polynesian. The Polynesian's counter service place? Hooks?? anyways they are open Marathon Weekend and I thought when I asked that they are always open early. So your friends/family might be able to grab a coffee there. :thumbsup2

They might have a map of the Family Reunion Area and Finish in the Final Instructions, it was for the Marathon Weekend. But new race, new things.

Resort wise, I was surfing the Dis Resorts threads and found that SafetyMom had a thread which sadly took forever for my old 'puter to load but found she also had a website with photos of the resort. It looks sooo pretty and relaxing. :thumbsup2 I notice that in the poll about 10 are staying there so I thought I'd post the link. I'm all excited. I stayed at the Coronado for the EE5K trip and loved it for walking around the resort. So was excited to try the CBR since it has a 1.4 mile around the lake. :cool1:

There was snow again today, I can't wait for March to get here. But i bet you could tell that with the link to the CBR LOL

Stay warm! Have a great training weekend!!!!

DianeL I was at the world last week and it is not 1.4 miles around that lake. I'm a runner, but not that fast. I have done a 9 min. average mile in a 15K race. But on the treadmill daily I usually average a 9:30 mile, some times more when I do some walk/run intervals. I did 5 laps in under an hour twice last week. It was pretty and a fun run and I loved being outside again.

Since I am only running the 5k - if I wanted to be somewhere on the course on Sunday for the half, what should I do? What is a good place to be during the race to cheer on other WISHers?

JOAN! You didn't take a garmin!?!?!? :rotfl2: Ok so we figure it's less and since I am still sipping coffee and not about to figure out how many miles at a 9:30 pace Joan did :lmao: I'm sticking with UNDER 1.4 miles. It looks like such a beautiful place to run in the photos so thanks for letting me know how your run went. I'm very very excited. While at the Coronado I did a few laps after the park one night and it was soooo nice. Grant it I didn't see much but it was sooooo relaxing and the CBR looks like it will be the same. I can't wait. :thumbsup2

DisneyPiPhi :wave2: there are a couple. Depending on when you want to be out there. I'm hoping they will put up that specator tool they had this week month. But basically there is 1st up... TTC, Main St, Grand Floridian,, Polynesian and then as you enter Epcot (by where the normal buses drop guests).

All are great! I didn't expect anyone at Epcot this year due to everyone volunteering. And was so surprised by Susie and John being there that I choked up with tears. I was completely taken by that very nice surprise. BTW, they were also at other places on the course. TTC (Susie), Main St (John), Polynesian (Susie) and Epcot (both). And I keep think I saw John elsewhere but my brain went foggy.

From the TTC you can walk to the Polynesian and then walk back to the TTC for the monorail back to Epcot. Quite a few of us have done this and it's not that far of a walk. The year we did it we were dropped off early by my other roomie (she was volunteering) we walked from the volunteer parking to the TTC then to the Polynesian had coffee then wandered back to the TTC as it got closer to cheer. :)

BTW.... it's not ONLY a 5K. Each race is a RACE into itself. I think the ONLY way you can use the words Only and 5K in the same sentence is......I'm doing a 5K at Disney World and it's ONLY the BESTEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO RUN! :cheer2: Your going to LOVE it!!!! :cheer2:

OK.

I need help!

Last night I moved a Disney trip from May to March... I just realized it's the week BEFORE this race so now......

Should I or shouldn't I? Decisions, decsions. I swore NO MORE FIRST YEAR races after that TOT fiasco! (You would have thought Disney had never run a race before)

Have to decide today because after that it costs $150 to CHANGE the plane ticket that only cost $128 to begin with LOL!

Are the rates at the CBR for the race decent? Has anyone ever flown home AFTER the race? (If I decide to do that I will probably move off site so I can get a late check out and have time to get my act together!)

Hmmm......

Go for it Carol. I did the inaugural EEC and I think it went off pretty much with out incident. I have a good feeling about this. If you are going to be there anyway - why not. Look at the medal and picture it in your collection!!

Well I just rebooked the ticket. Down to $117 (plus taxes) Have to verify one thing and then try to find a place to sleep that I can afford. This has to be a budget trip.

Got to run some errands and then I will work on this some!

Happy weekend!!

For you MFMers...what is the long mileage for this weekend? The weather here in Cinci dictates that I do my long mileage on the TM instead of over at the cemetery...

If there is only one stop at CBR for the expo/race transport, I am wondering if it will be at Old Port Royale or the Customs House. That would be good info when making a building request. I know we are going there to walk/run 13.1 miles, but if I have to catch a bus at 4AM I would like for it to be close by!!

Diane, you made me feel much better today! I was feeling a little down about "Only" doing a 5K but this is my first race so it's smart to start my training out wisely. It's a big deal to me since I was never a runner. It's nice to have this thread as a support group. I love reading everyone's posts and seeing their excitement and challenges during their training!

Thanks everyone!!

I'm showing 8 miles for today!! I'll be on the TM too.

Could some post a picture of what the special BondiBand will look like? Is this just for 1/2 marathon runners or are 5K runners wearing them too? I have the info to contact the seller directly but was wondering what they looked like before I order for my sister and myself!

Thanks!

Blakely

Aww BlakeNJ! :goodvibes As you notice with Carol's fall into our evil plans we will soon have you doing 5K's as a usual thing and eyeing the Half :thumbsup2 A word of warning....there are a bunch of enablers around here. For the past few months I know I have been focused on the January race only because one must survive the races in order of calendar dates LOL

Christine? The Port Royal place is where the restaurants are? I am going by what happens at OKW. Now since it's a giant loop around (right?) they might have the buses going all around. At check-in at CBR ask if they have anything about it. For Marathon Weekend they have a time sheet with the Expo hours and race starts. When you are getting on the bus for the Expo ask the driver or there might be another person standing there. I think they are all Mears employees. Just to double check if they are going to be doing the loop or just the 1 stop. When are you arriving? I am schedule to fly in Wednesday night so I will try to remember to have DH at home to post for me whatever I find for those arriving later. :)

DianeL I don't own a garmin and I forgot that little piece that plugs into my ipod that helps with miles. I didn't forget my ipod with my Disney playlist-I have over an hour of songs-running at Disney and listening to Disney tunes-Is there anything better? I will be staying at the Coronado during the race, so thanks for the info on that nice run there.;)

Hope everyone is gettin' excited-I sure am!princess:

Yep, it's 8 miles for me today. I just have to remind myself it is only 15 minute more than when I ran the 7 miles 2 weeks ago. We can do this.

I do think it would be a beautiful place to run. We stayed there a couple of years ago. I wasn't running at the time. You hadn't got me sucked in yet! :lmao:

Yup, i gotta do the 8mi. today too! Running out to Dick's sporting goods in a bit, want to get more Sports Beans, and look at sale stuff.. then i guess i will get home and hit the TM!

Good luck everyone on today's training! We can do it!!!

Well, the enablers did it.

I am doing the Pricness Half. (WHAT AM I THINKING?)

Oh man- i'm meant to do 9or10 miles tomorrow and the weather's turning icy again :crazy2: Hope you guys got your miles in and they went wonderfully :)

Thanks for that- i'm hoping to convince my parents to go to various points along course to make sure i'm not tempted to walk!
