I thought this was for Women Only, but if I just read this correctly, Men can participate if they compete in a team?

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon

$120
2-Person Team Entries: Mother/Daughter; Sister/Sister; Open Women's Division and Open Co-ed Division - $10 team fee plus the cost of each individual registration

If it's teh ame as the Minnie, they don't have to be on a team. they can just sign up. For teh Minnie, they just couild not win awards.

Hmmm. Very interesting. For some reason, I was under the impression it was Women Only. I've been lying to people then! lol!

Carrie...Did they have a medal there for display? Any chance you have a picture?

Now see I'm bummed if it goes to the regular Jan course. Susan and I were happy to be able to run the 2nd 'half' portion of the Marathon Course to gain experience.

I can understand those unable to do January wanting to do the Castle and that would be great for them but a 2nd course for those of us who have ALREADY run the Castle only 2 months prior sounded wonderful.

Robert I'll be keeping my eyes glued for your posts in the hopes that your contact updates you today on this breaking news story :surfweb:

Thanks Robert and Carrie!!!!!

I guess if they go with the same old course I will just have to look at it as a 2nd try to get a faster time if I don't achieve the pace I want in January. So the upside is I know the course and hopefully will improve the 2nd time in a matter of 2 months LOL But I was really looking forward to (don't laugh) run again on Osceloa  I was, really! More practice before the 2010 Marathon :upsidedow

At least the 5K course is new and looks like it will be fun :)

Well regardless at least it will be running in Florida and not chilly Michigan :thumbsup2 Silver lining and all ;)

:headache: I was just starting to look at teh medals when I heard teh CM say it would eb on teh half course. So, of course I jumped in on the conversation and forgot about the rest.

JMO, but you are not missing anything on teh last half of the marathon couse, especially if you have done the Minnie. I may be jaded because I have hit 13 miles before I get to that part, but the run to AK is bo-ring. Going through AK is ok. The run from AK to MGM stinks (agin JMO). It's hot hightway over 2 bridges that act surprisningly liek hills. ;) Then, there's about 1.5 miles of out and back and anopther highway run. MGM during the day has never thrilled me that much. After MGM is cool, although the run around WS seems to take forever.

It would be nice if they could find a fdifferent route that still goes through the castle. Starting a princess race with "Start your Engines' just seemed wrong to me.

With only 3 Minnie's and no future ones, all new runners won't get to see the back half of the marathon unless they do it. Carrie is right it is hot if you hit it during the marathon as it is late in the day. It would have been hit and completed before the heat hits. Always nice to do something different but if Disney wants to run the same race 3-4 times a year more power to them. Next the will do the same course and call it a Pirates Half Marathon in Sept ;)

JMO, the Jan half has lots of boring hwy stretches too!

The 5K is just a variation of the Minnie 5K and several other small charity races held in EPCOT.

So hear is the question then. Will there not be a race portion through AK or MGM? The race map from disneyrunning (Thanks Robert! :thumbsup2 ) shows the course starting at Epcot and winding through Epcot and MK. That's it. No AK or MGM. And what about the speedway?

You won't even get close to AK or DHS. You barely enter Epcot. It is just an out and back course that goes through MK. You just go by the outside of the speedway.

wow:sad2: Now the $120 price tag is starting to smart a little!

Yes it is. It was only $100 for the Jan race. They raised it $20 for same race less than 2 months later:sad2: Expect 2010 Jan Half to be $125 or $130.

But, it said that we were supposed to run one lap around the speedway, do you think we will still do that??

Wow, I've never run a race at Disney before so it doesn't make a big difference to me but when signing up it did say 'New Course', which I'm guessing some people signed up expecting to get. I hope they can come to a solution that works for those of you who've run races there before. Let's hope they come up with something good that's different from the January half!

I'm sorry for those of you that wanted to run the other course but this is awesome news for me. This is my first ever 1/2 and having it go through MK makes it that much more special for me.

There was no Princess medal on display at the San Antonio expo, according to the CM the design was still being finalized.

I'm also bummed that the Princess is going to be the same course as the half in January. Darn, for $120 I'd like something different. I guess as long as Disney keeps getting people to sign up there isn't any motivation to make changes, but it sure would be nice if they could design a second half course. Then they could alternate - in January one course in even years and the other for odd years, and if the Princess sticks alternate those too.

This is my situation too :thumbsup2

And, for the Minnie the shirts were Women's sizes. (In the case of this event maybe Princess sizes?)

For me - not too excited if it is pretty much the same route of the WDW Half. I have done that route before. Not great to pay more money and then get the same thing?/! I was kinda looking forward to doing a different route. Maybe they will still have the racetrack involved, out toward the TTC, through MK and then end over at EPCOT?? Hoping for something different than the WDW Half.

Tracy

I'm happy for those that haven't had the chance to run thru the Castle like Vicki and Caitmama, I'm really happy for you to have that chance. Just promise me you'll smile big at the camera :thumbsup2

Hopefully somehow they will make it up if they do change it. Either in the form of entertainment, a slight difference to the course ... something. I'm hoping with the theme that they will go over the top from start to finish and then I won't notice the same old course.

Happy training everyone!!!! Vicki stay warm it's freezing down here so I'm sure your bundled up :)

As a novice I am psyched for anything through Disney! I have walked the Boston Marathon Twice (for Cancer fundraiser) and that was BORING!

It did say we will start at the Speedway where they will ask "women" to start their engines. That was on Tuesday of this week :confused3
