We are going to be staying at the Polynesian for three days in January (after 3 days at Pop Century) for our son's 14th birthday. All you Poly fans out there, are there an must do or must see activities while we are there? I'm sure this will be the only time we ever stay there and I want to make it count. How is Ohana for breakfast? Is there a meal or restaurant we shouldn't miss? What would be your perfect Poly day? Ideas, people! We need them. Thanks.

If you are a coffee drinker make sure to get a cup at the coffee bar outside of Kona Cafe, it is the best in Disney!!!:surfweb:

My perfect Poly day would to sleep to a reasonable time not too early, not too late. I would then go to breakfast at the Kona Cafe for my Tonga Toast and Kona coffee.

I would then take a stroll around the beautiful grounds to let my breakfast digest.

I would stop at my room, put my swimsuit on and head down to the beach to grab some beach chairs in the sand.

I would sit there all day and watch my children build sancastles and look out at the water. When I get hot I would take a dip in the pool, maybe order a tropical drink from the pool bar.

I then would go back to the room relax a little and then get ready for dinner at O'hana.

I then would walk back down to the beach and wait to see the Electrical Water Pagaent and the fireworks and then back to the room.

I would stick the kiddies down to bed and my husband and I could sit out on the patio and have a drink and relax.

That would be my perfect day at the Poly. It's a gorgeous resort, the Tiki torches around the resort at night are really fun!

Spend time at the beach, it's so relaxing! Have fun! :)

Yeah, you read that right.

On our last trip, DH & I couldn't help but wake up at sunrise! I guess it must have been the Disney excitement. We were staying CL, so we just went up to the lounge and got some cappucino or espresso from the coffee machine and sat on the patio and enjoyed the lovely view while the kids continued to sleep.

As soon as breakfast was ready, we'd go back to the lounge and get food and bring it back to the room.

Early one morning, we were visited by a mama duck and her little ducklings. They came by and checked us out for a while before waddling down to the lake.

Also, bring your tripod and get set to take lots of fireworks pictures from the Poly beach (or your room)! I strongly suggest bringing the tripod because on some digicams (such as mine) that has a fireworks mode, it keeps the shutter open longer than normal. It's very difficult to keep the camera steady unless you use a tripod. I wish I had done that on the last trip, and will definitely do it on the next!

As mentioned above, you must see the Electrical Water Pageant. My kids loved it.

Check the Poly schedule for the Tiki torch lighting ceremony, and other free activities going on there. If you can swing it, see the dinner show there as well.

Captain Cook's has some of the best flatbread pizza I've tried. Much better than they use to have. Hmm what else? Oh watch the fireworks from the beach, the water parade. Stroll around the property.

I love making wrist leis in the lobby, watching the torch lighting ceremony, and having tonga toast! (from either Captain Cook's or the Kona!)

Oh. And of course you have to lie in a hammock on the beach and stare off at Cinderella's Castle. It's mandatory. :thumbsup2

I'd say Ohana's is really fun for breakfast. The food is good (love that juice & you can't go wrong with Mickey waffles!), and the character interaction we had with Lilo and Stitch was great!

And I like to walk all the way out to Sunset Point and just stand there soak in the palm trees & tropical goodness!

I like the torch lighting ceremony (it may not be held nightly so check the schedule when you check in).

Also, viewing the fireworks from the Volcano Pool is one of those experiences that you can't do anywhere else.

Dole Whips are now available at Captain Cooks (I'll be having one in just 22 days  ).

Finally, a tiki-torch lit walk back to your room at the end of a fun day at Disney World is very nice!

Taking the hula lessons in the GCH.

wrist leis in the lobby??

do tell!

It's over in the kid's area with the TV and couches (next to the bell stand). They have a table with bowl of fake flowers out and then smaller bowls of cut up straws and Mickey noodles (to separate the flowers).

Usually they do it in the afternoon. If there's a woman sitting at the table or at the desk, you just tell her you want to make a lei, and she'll give you a piece of elastic, then you design & make your own lei and take it away with you. It's really fun!

I am thinking of things from your ds point of view since it is his b day. I would also ask for his input into what he would like to do but at the resort itself also its jan. so dont know how cold the weather will be even though the pool is heated. Fireworks from the beach and watching the water parade is fun, also being lazy and relaxing in the hammock is fun too. Maybe renting the surrey bikes and pedaling around the resort. We got lunch from captain cooks once and rented a pontoon boat and enjoyed our lunch while boating across Bay Lake etc. You could rent a sea raycer boat. He could not drive though, just be a passenger. They also have fishing cruises if he wants to do something special but dont know how the fish bite at that time of year. It leaves right from the Polynesian Dock, expensive but a good b day treat. Ohanas is fun for dinner if you want to consider that. Taking a monorail tour of the other resorts is fun too. You could check out the arcades and gift shops etc. Get him a b day button to wear for the day too and some extra special magic might happen. Enjoy your trip.

The EWP is a great benefit of staying at a monorail hotel - especially if you can just watch from your balcony. :) It isn't something I'd make a special trip to see, but I do love it. It is one of the reasons I lean toward monorail resorts, even though I prefer Beach Club or AKL.

We are now planning a similar trip, 3nts./4days at the Poly either in Jan. or Feb.

When we were at the Poly last year, my 14 and 12 year old boys liked going to the arcade, they liked Captain Cook's flatbread pizza, and they liked chillin in our room watching the flat screen tv. They liked the volcano pool but were just as happy at the quiet pool. My 8 year old liked the volcano pool better. And they loved the Big Kahuna breakfast at Kona Cafe. It was huge.

Hi, All the above are great suggestions. Your son will love the sea racers!!Just hanging around the beach and pool is so much fun. Also what I didn't see listed was the boat to magic Kingdom. My boys and I love the little baot and it was faster and quieter than the one at WL. Best of all the staff is friendly and enjoy children. Have lots of fun. After may times in Hawaii building we are trying the Beach Club this THanksgiving. Enjoy Aloha

I CAN'T BELIEVE POLY HAS DOLE WHIPS NOW!!!

Just when I thought I couldn't be more excited about going....

A dole whip is pineapple soft serve ice cream on a cone, or a dole whip float which is the pineapple ice cream in pineapple juice.

If you look on the disney restaurant review boards, many people post with pictures and there are tons on there.
