I'm Michelle, wife/mom/nurse. Pediatric Oncology for almost 9 years now...help my kiddos plan their Disney trips through Make-A-Wish (GREAT organization --support it if you can!), staying at Give Kids The World. Getting ready for my crew to make a trip down to the World. Can't wait!

I organized a trip for Spring Break for myself and some of my nurse classmates, we went down and volunteered at GKTW for the week, it was a wonderful experience! You should see if you can get a tour when you are down there! You have to see the place to believe it!

lol, I would start with something about reintroducing yourself to your family,and then your friends and those you havent seen or spoken to since nursing school began, and then I would go into thanking all of them for putting up with the moods, the lack of housekeeping & the amount of take out. I for one, cannot wait to rejoin the land of the living!!!!

Congratulations on graduating AND getting the job, Beka!!

Our program didn't have a pinning ceremony, but if I had to give a speech, I would have talked about my clinical team (I loved our group and wouldn't have made it through without them) and thank the instructors, my clinical team, other nursing school friends, and my family for supporting me.

My son starts nursing school tomorrow. He is starting an accelerated one year second degree program. I suspect he's going to be VERY busy!

So glad I found this thread!

I am presently in a CNA program. I'm taking my final exam on Wednesday and my clinicals start next Monday. So excited and nervous at the same time. I can be very "book smart" but I'll actually get to put my skills to the test in clinical - I hope I do well and remember everything!

I will be taking the NY state CNA exam on July 1st. Hopefully, I will find a job right after so that I can leave my BORING office job!

After that, I'll be applying for both LPN and RN schools. Whichever I get into first is where I will be going. Of course, my ultimate goal is a Masters RN, but one step at a time.

Does anyone have any advice for a beginning CNA? I have heard that starting out as a CNA will serve you well in experience and make you a great RN in the future!

Any advice and helpful hints would be appreciated from all the experienced RNs/LPNs/CNAs on this board!

starting out as a CNA is a great idea. My advice is to challenge yourself to think of the pathophysiology behind each task, you are not just passing fresh water, feeding, and positioning, you are contributing to pressure relief, hydration, boosting immune systems, preventing pneumonia....etc

My best piece of advice is try to find a PT wherever you end up working and beg them to show you the right way to transfer someone from bed to chair. As a rehab nurse i am appalled at how little we teach proper transfer technique.

Waiting on my final exam grade for MedSurg... it was supposed to be up 3 hours ago

But my good news for the day is... I got an 84 on my Pharm final, so I should be in the B+ range for a final grade! yay Now hopefully MedSurg can be just as good!

I've been considering making the jump from EMS to nursing when my daughter starts school. I want to stay in healthcare but I don't want to go back to getting up in the middle of the night to scrape someone off the road or people who put their sick nonambulatory loved ones on the second floor bedroom that doubles as a storage room.
It's a totally different mind set nursing versus EMS. I've had some friends go through school for it. It was hard for them to adjust. I've also considered PA school. The dean of the PA program at MUSC prefers paramedics for admission to the program. Ironically I'd want to be obstetrics despite the fact I spent my whole career avoiding prehospital births- sometimes not successfully. I found I didn't mind births inside the hospital. People were generally happier there. Outside the hospital it could be a crap-shoot.

Took my final today-- scored an 86. I'm very pleased with that and I ended with a B+ for the semester. I'll take it!
So.. I have the summer off and then it's just one more semester. Can't wait to graduate in December!!

PNN-138 Intro to Nursing 2
PNN-139 Practical Nursing I 5
PNN-722 Fundamentals of Nursing Clinical 2

The other 4 semesters have only 3 or 4 semester hours worth of clinicals listed. I e-mailed the nursing department to ask how many actual hours is considered 2 semester hours, but I just wanted to check and see what everyone else's experience has been.

Ours varies by semester.. and they don't necessarily correspond exactly to "semester" hours.

Fundamentals was 6 hours of clinical once a week, Med-Surg was 6 hours twice a week, Maternity will be 6 hours twice a week, and Pedi is 9 hours once a week.
