My parents are in FW for the month of January and part of February. They've been going for many years. My DM would like to go to church (Catholic) while she's there, but doesn't want to move the MH.

So,

Do any of you go to church and how do you get there?

Thanks for any help.

Susan

Take a Disney bus to Downtown Disney. From there it is a short cab ride to the Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine

From 1976 until 2002 Fr. F. Joseph Harte conducted mass at several locations around the Disney complex. The first masses were conducted at the Polynesian Cove.

After the Shrine was completed, the Diocese of Orlando found that they could no longer staff the masses at Disney.

From the Shrine website. "For the small minority who took umbrage at the closing of the masses, we have this to say: the time is coming when Catholics will have to make much larger sacrifices to get to mass, because short of an outright miracle the priest shortage in this country will continue to worsen."

As around, you may find someone else going to mass that may enjoy having a passenger.

Thanks Tim5055. I'll pass the info on to DM. She really misses those Poly services.

We went to the Queen of the Universe Shrine and didn't really care for it. It is huge and is geared toward tourists; we didn't really care for the continued pitch for donations both before mass and during the homily.

We found another church that is very easy to get to and is a regular parish ... Holy Cross Catholic church at 12600 Marsfield Ave, Orlando 32837.

Take Central Florida Greenway / FL-417 N
Take Exit 10, John Young Parkway
Keep left at fork and go on FL-423 N/S John Youg Parkway
turn Right onto Deerfield Blvd
turn Left onto Marsfield Ave

It only takes us 10 minutes from Ft Wilderness.

They have a website which lists the mass times http://holycrossorlfl.catholicweb.com/index.cfm

We go to Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine every time we visit wdw, which is about 3-4 times a year. I've never really felt pressured for donations at all at any time during the mass (no more than any other mass anywhere). This shrine was built from tourist's collections, it has no parish like a regular church and is run by volunteers. It is a beautiful church, a real attraction to visit in and of itself and well worth a few minutes ride since it is very close to disney property. It's always interesting to see where everyone is from before mass gets started. They have a great gift shop and the prices are so reasonable; you can get religious medals, statues, cards, etc. A little further down the road are the outlets, including the disney outlet, usually you can get some great deals there.

I really do miss the masses at the Poly though. Not just for the convenience. It was nice to have mass outside and the homily was always so good (priests were from mary queen of the universe shrine). They even had the live music accompaniment. We were very sad to see this go away but now enjoy visiting the Shrine.

Btw, taxis will pick you up from any disney resort. Not sure of the cost since we usually have a car.
